    Mickelson halves with Garcia

It's Mickelson to putt first on 18, this has been one hell of a match-up. Lefty has got about 15 feet left... what a shot that is, straight down the pipe, and that's his 10th birdie. Poor old Sergio, he's got an eight-footer to halve the match... MADE IT! What a match that was, they both went round in 62.

    2UP Johnson v Wood (15)

What's that you hear? Singing? Fat lady? Yeah, me too. Dustin Johnson drains a putt to win the 15th hole against Chris Wood. A fist clench, that's pretty extreme for the typically emotion-free Johnson. He's two up and there are now a glut of Americans waiting to be the guy honoured with the winning putt. Who will get to be the man on all those re-runs of the great moment?

It is a little too late. But you always want to win your match, you want to get as much blue as you possibly can.

    A/S Mickelson v Garcia (17)

Mickelson with a twirl of a club after his approach at 18 and he's all over the flag, lovely shot. Garcia's turn to go and he's got inside it, we've got ourselves a putt-out...

    Moore v Westwood 1UP (16)

So somehow, Europe need to prevent the US from winning two more points. That's going to be hard with both Brandt Snedeker and Zach Johnson cruising to victory. We've seen miracles before but this would be beyond that.

Chris Wood watches a chance slip away to level against Zach Johnson, he doesn't give it legs. Ryan Moore wants eagle on 16, he deserves it after a brilliant approach on this par five... boom. In it goes. Power golf.

    Koepka beat Willett 5&4

The hosts have harvested another point and only need two more points to win it, Brooks Koepka rams home another clutch putt at 14 to close out Danny Willett. Hasn't been a great week for Willett, although not all of his misfortune was of his making.

  8. 'Looking disappointing for Europe'published at 21:48 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

    US 11½-9½ Europe

    Carin Koch

I had a feeling as the US had such a strong team, but it is disappointing. It is never over until it is over, but it is looking disappointing for Europe, of course.

Now here is a man who has stayed more under the radar than a Russian submarine this week.

Garcia thumps his tee shot down the middle of the 18th and Mickelson holds it together to join him down there.

USA's Rickie Fowler on Sky Sports: "It feels good right now, especially coming here having not won a Ryder Cup point. It was a hard-fought match, a dog fight.

On being handed a wildcard pick: "It put a little pressure on me to come out and perform this week, to justify that pick makes me happy. It means the world that Davis made me a pick and I'm happy to make it worthwhile."

    2UP Snedeker v Sullivan (15)

Sullivan has had two chances to level things with Snedeker at 14 and 15 and fluffed his lines on both occasions. Snedeker, meanwhile, has been a demon with the putter today.

    1UP Kuchar v Kaymer (13)

Martin Kaymer strides purposefully to the 14th tee as Matt Kuchar looks at his ball beside the cup. That miss gives the German one back. Kaymer's second hole won of the day. You never know... you never know.

    1UP Mickelson v Garcia (16)

... unfortunately for Sergio, Mickelson has matched him off the tee at 17. Here is Mickelson, bending another birdie putt in. That's his ninth today, he hasn't lost any of that magic touch. Garcia, I should remind you, still has a putt for a half... tremendous, well done Sergio, trying to keep tabs with Mickelson today must have felt like hanging onto to the bumper of a drag car

    1UP D Johnson v Wood (14)

Chris Wood lines up a long putt with two breaks in it on 14. It's a lovely read he's put on this, could go in... not quite. Just six inches out. So now Dustin Johnson must hole a right-to-left breaker from the fringe, this for the half, not even close.

I've never been more perplexed by a man's body language. You could tell him he was going to make the winning catch in the Super Bowl and he'd probably shrug his shoulder. I'd love to know what gets him excited. Gardening maybe?

  18. Postpublished at 21:40 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

Europe's Rafa Cabrera-Bello on Sky Sports: "It was great, very special. I have a great team and they all tried to explain how it was going to be today. I felt confident, I believed this week. I'm really happy I got a point for my team.

"Now, it's all about supporting the rest of the guys. There's still a little too much red on the board, so hopefully we can change that."

    1UP Fowler beats Rose

    Andrew Magee
American PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 live

Rose left it short. I never thought of that. That's too much tension, too much in your head. But to leave it short, oh my.
