    Fowler beats Rose 1UP

Fowler with 30 feet to win the match at 18, leaves it three feet shy. Rose doesn't hit it, which is a shame, Fowler has a couple of feet for another American point. The man who has never won a singles match beats the man who has never lost one. Garcia has just stuck his tee shot at 17 to within 10 feet...

    Andrew Magee
American PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 live

We were used to the pace of play from McIlroy and Reed, but oh my gosh in this one we have seen practice putts, walks to the right, walks to the left, check their books - the tension is so big out here. Each team needs it badly.

    Moore v Westwood 2UP (15)

Some European putts are dropping but not in the matches where they crucially trail. Lee Westwood has a putt of some 15-20ft to move two up on Ryan Moore. It's in. Just three to play.

    A/S Mickelson v Garcia (16)

Fowler has tugged his approach left at 18, and here's Rose with a fine approach. As we head back to Phil on 16... no chance, Garcia has two putts to win the hole... cosies it up and Lefty concedes.

    2UP Snedeker v Sullivan (14)

    Carin Koch
Last year's European Solheim Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 live

That was Sullivan's chance to really try and turn this game around. It is so tough, you hear the big roars from the crowds out here and we can hear every roar.

You don't see a lot of blue and you try to stay up and stay positive, but it's not looking likely now.

    2UP Snedeker v Sullivan (14)

Garcia with his second into the 16th, having found the middle of the fairway... on it goes. Mickelson has had to lay up after that errant drive and his third is pretty ordinary, that match looks like it's heading down the 17th all square. Sullivan, back on 14, misses a makeable putt to win the hole, Snedeker stays two clear.

    Cabrera-Bello beats Walker 3&2

Rafa Cabrera-Bello gets a big hug from Justin Rose. He shows a lot of emotion himself with fist pump after fist pump. Someone tell him Europe are bang in trouble. He's like a goalscorer yet to notice he's been flagged offside.

Europe's Thomas Pieters, the first rookie to take four points: "It's different when you're out there on your own. You don't have anyone to high five or pick you up when you're down.

"I made plenty of birdies and that's what you need in matchplay. I knew that Darren believed in me, that gave me a lot of confidence."

Tremendous. What a great Ryder Cup debut. He just took to it like a duck to water and loved the whole environment. From the Olympics to here, he said it is like a dream come true.

    Cabrera-Bello beats Walker 3&2

Played three, won two, halved one. Rafa Cabrera-Bello has been another inspired rookie. Both he and Thomas Pieters can be so, so proud. Cabrera-Bello dismantled the US PGA Champion from the off.

He wasn't behind all day. Hold your head up high sir.

    1UP Fowler v Rose (17)

Mickelson sprays his tee shot at the 16th, offering Garcia a glimmer, as Fowler larrups a drive down 18. Familiar scenes now as players who have done their day's work gather round the 18th green to watch their team-mates come in. Rose pings his drive straight down there...

    2UP D Johnson v Wood (13)

Chris Wood has a putt to win a hole back against the US Open champion Dustin Johnson. It will break right-to-left. He reads it badly, fires it tamely and such a combination will never get the job done. Halved.

Europe have given it a heck of a go but they just seem short of some gunpowder when it matters.

    Moore v Westwood 1UP (14)

Lee Westwood has the lead against Ryan Moore. Hardly vintage this one but from what we have seen this week, Moore and JB Holmes are the men you want to be playing against. Westy has to get it done. He needs two putts to take the lead on 14 but such was the state of Moore's scorecard on that hole, two putts is just fine.

    1UP Fowler v Rose (17)

Fowler stalks his birdie putt at 17, make this and Rose might be toast... starts well right and stays well right. Rose gives his birdie putt a real clatter and pays the price as it goes racing by. Fowler taps in his par putt to guarantee half a point... and Rose follows him in to stay alive...

    2UP Kuchar v Kaymer (11)

We think that is Martin Kaymer's ride waiting in the background. Darren Clarke has called it to pick him up early.

Matt Kuchar cannot make his short birdie putt and so the gap stays at two.

  20. Major for Sergio in 2017?published at 21:18 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

    1UP Mickelson v Garcia (15)

    Des Smyth
Former Ryder Cup vice captain on BBC Radio 5 live

Wonderful to see Sergio putt under such pressure. It shows he has his putting stroke back on stream and with a bit of luck maybe we will be celebrating a major win for Sergio next year.

Naturally I am pulling for Team Europe, but you have to admire Phil Mickelson. Fantastic.
