    1UP Reed v McIlroy (15)

    Andrew Magee
American PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 live

It's on that down slope, all these bunkers are fluffed up and firmed and it makes it hard to spin the ball. He has about 12 feet of green to work with, is he going to take the chance of landing it in the rough? Yes! Like he has done all day, he has taken a chance.

    Holmes v Pieters 2UP (14)

I do like the Thomas Pieters fist pump. He explodes forward with those Red-Rum like legs. His putt on 14 deserves the full monty. A big 20 footer and it drops in the front, dead weight. That's the lead and control against JB Holmes. I did say the American would cave in.

    Spieth v Stenson 2UP (14)

Stenson after that great drive, Spieth already up there to within five feet. Stenson must really be annoying Spieth, every time the American does something good, the Swede has it covered.

    1UP Reed v Spieth (15)

Rory McIlroy's drive on 16 is long and it bounces kindly over a bunker. He will lay up from here in the par five, nine iron in hand. "Wow," he says on impact. That ball came out fast. No harm done, middle of the fairway.

Patrick Reed is taking the green on in two. There is water left, don't force it. He ends up in sand to the right.

Back to McIlroy, he swings, slaps his thigh in anger. He's on the green but that is sloppy, well short of the pin.

    A/S Fowler v Rose (13)

Rose already in for par at 13 and Fowler is putting from miles out. No bother, pours it in, stays level...

    Walker v Cabrera-Bello 1UP (12)

Jimmy Walker has a right-to-left breaker on 12. It's slightly downhill so this ball will travel at pace. It does... straight into the cup. Walker is fighting back. One thing you have to say about every player out there, they are hustling, kicking, scrapping, for their colours.

Nothing like an upbeat tune to get you in the holiday mood there, Kevin.

    Spieth v Stenson 2UP (14)

Stenson safely away at 15, that's massive, but Spieth's woes with the driver continue, he's tugged his ball into the trees.

  11. Can McIlroy spark miracle?published at 20:26 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

    1UP Reed v McIlroy (15)

    Tom Fordyce
    Chief sports writer in Minnesota

US confidence spilling across the rolling fairways now, the mood metamorphosing from expectation to increasing celebration. Every hole that Patrick Reed knocks off with lead intact pumps the successive galleries a little more. A miracle can still come to pass, but it needs McIlroy to spark it.

    Mickelson v Garcia 1UP (11)

Mickelson with a two-footer to halve the 11th... and he's gone and missed it, Garcia edges ahead for the first time since the first hole.

  13. 'Matchplay gamesmanship'published at 20:25 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

    Holmes v Pieters 1UP (13)

    David Leadbetter
Leading golf coach on BBC Radio 5 live

There was a little bit of matchplay gamesmanship there. 'If you make me putt mine, I'll make you putt yours' - and that is the way it should be coming down to these last few holes.

    Spieth v Stenson 2UP (14)

After that birdie miss by Spieth at 14, Stenson has a chance to move three ahead if he drains this eight-footer... starts left and stays left...

    1UP Reed v McIlroy (15)

Patrick Reed is in generous mood, giving Rory McIlroy a putt of a couple of feet for the half on 15. Reed himself missed a birdie chance, that would have maybe closed the door. To 16 where water lurks.

    2UP Kuchar v Kaymer (7), 1UP Reed v McIlroy (14)

Matt Kuchar made his tap in on seven to double his lead against Martin Kaymer. The German, a two-time major winner just has no answer right now.

Up on 15, Rory McIlroy and Patrick Reed will have putts of 20ft or so for birdie. Reed is inching closer to the perfect US start.

    1UP Snedeker v Sullivan (9)

Sullivan with a three-footer to win the ninth and in it goes, Snedeker's lead chopped in half with one swing of the putter.
