    Rose (-2 after 11)

    Justin RoseImage source, Getty Images

Hole 11 is the second-hardest on the course this week, players are often stretching to make par and Justin Rose is no different. He judges a 22ft putt to perfection though and acknowledges the crowd twice - that's how good it was.

    Fowler (-4)

Rickie Fowler finds the first cut of rough with his drive on the 14th, leaving him with a mid-iron on this bunkerless par four.

The wind is behind the American, and the arrival of a sudden gust flies his ball over the back of the green. Shouldn't be too taxing a bad chip back on from there, however.

  3. Splash!published at 22:35 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Day (+2 after 10)

Jason Day gives it the full English breakfast on 11 but he's dropped his beans all over his lap there. Too greedy and water awaits. He will drop at least two blows here and wish he'd played it safe and just gone for poached egg on toast.

    Mickelson -2 (11)

    Shaun Micheel
2003 US PGA Championship winner, BBC Radio 5 live

Phil's game is coming into form, his short game is so magical, the imagination, the feel he has. He spends so much time here working around the green.

Mickelson finds the dancefloor on 12 - the tricky par three.

    Pieters (-4)

Thomas Pieters dinks out of the sand on 15, setting up a gettable birdie putt from about nine feet.

He knocks it hard up the hill. Definitely got the length. But has it got the line? Nope, it just whistles past the left edge.

  6. Birdie for Fowlerpublished at 22:30 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Fowler (-4)

Someone has gatecrashed the party. It's Rickie Fowler!

The American world number eight drills in that tiddler of a birdie putt on the par-five 13th. He joins Thomas Pieters, Sergio Garcia and Charley Hoffman at the top.

  7. Watching Sergio?published at 22:29 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Garcia (-4)

    Sergio GarciaImage source, .

I wonder if Sergio is watching?

He could be in second place in a moment when Thomas Pieters putts for birdie on 15.

I make it 21 years of major tournaments for Garcia with no wins. What chance do you give him? We're on #bbcgolf if you want to chat.

    Pieters (-4)

No holding back from Thomas Pieters. He eyes up the 15th green in two, only Lee Westwood managed to do that yesterday.

He brings out the long iron...he's eating sand in the trap on the right of the green. Still chance of a birdie though.

    Mickelson (-2 after 11)

Phil Mickelson is putting from Canada on the 11th hole, such is the distance between him and the hole. His trousers flap in the wind and he's given this a right ride, it runs way past.

Lefty now has 15ft for his par... it's in... NO. Licked the hole and refused to drop.

    Hagestad (+4)

No problem for Stewart Hagestad. The highest-placed amateur sinks that birdie putt on the last to make history (see 10:20 BST entry).

The lads in the office will be celebrating in the bars of Manhattan tonight.

  11. Postpublished at 22:23 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Fowler (-3)

Silkier than an expensive pair of knickers. Rickie Fowler shows his magic touch with a delightful chip onto the 13th green. One bounce, a bit of check, a five-foot birdie putt for a share of the lead.

  12. Postpublished at 22:20 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Hagestad (+4)

No winner of the US Mid-Amateur Championship has made the cut at Augusta. Stewart Hagestad looks set to change that.

The lanky Californian, who works in real estate in New York, is two shots above safety.

And he has just laced a stunner of a mid-iron to a couple of feet on the last. The galleries love it, just love it.

  14. Birdie for Pieterspublished at 22:14 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Pieters (-4)

Three is not a crowd for Thomas Pieters.

No messing about from the Belgian, confidently draining that four-footer on 14. Centre of the hole. Easy.

Three shots nabbed in two holes shove him up to a share of the lead alongside clubhouse leaders Sergio Garcia and Charley Hoffman.

    Couples (-2 after 13)

Fred Couples makes another birdie on 13. He's playing this like he's giving us all a lesson in how to plot your way through testing terrain like Bear Grylls. As the ball plops into the cup, he swaggers to get it.

  17. Postpublished at 22:12 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

Rose (-2 after 9) Day (+2 after 11) Kjeldsen (level)

Jason Day looks stylish in a body warmer but his chip on 10 lacks legs. He sweeps at the turf in anger and will do damage to the card here. Soren Kjeldsen does damage too, bogey on 17 moves him back to level.

Jordan Spieth cannot get momentum on 11, a putt is well off target and he looks as happy as a kid on the naughty wall. To Justin Rose on 10 with a long birdie putt. Lacked guts.

  18. Postpublished at 22:11 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Pieters (-3)

Thomas Pieters has seen more ups and downs this week than he would have done during a day trip to Blackpool.

Here's another high. The rangy Belgian wallops a beauty of a short-iron approach on the par-four 14th to within a foot or four.

He's ready to jump on the Birdie Express.

  19. Postpublished at 22:07 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Scott (+1 after 14) Couples (-1 after 12)

As Adam Scott spoons a par putt on 14, Fred Couples hits a sublime chip on 13 to open up birdie perhaps. He waves to the roaring crowd who lap up the 57-year-old's work.

Scott fires down 15 and grunts in displeasure. A hook.

    Fowler (-3)

Rickie Fowler's putting is almost as bold as his dress sense. Usually he turns up looking like a member of a nu-rave band, all in neon. Today he is dressed like an European Ryder Cup player with blue shirt and white trousers.

We digress... his putting. Bold. He rattles a hefty putt into the centre of the can for a par on 12.
