Fred Couples doing what Fred Couples does and taking the fight to Augusta. A long birdie putt on 10 goes close, beautifully judged. It snaked but Freddie had the situation under his spell.

Look If you had one putt or one opportunity, To seize the major you always wanted, One moment, Would you sink it, Or just let it slip?

    Mickelson (-2 after 7), Fowler (-3 after 9)

Beautiful stuff from Phil Mickelson. He throws in that little fist pump he sometimes does. It's a fist pump which says 'happy with that, but not going to go all out just yet'. He rolled home a 12 footer for birdie on seven. Rickie Fowler pitches to within a few feet on nine and should save par. Fine touch. He caressed that ball with the delicacy of a Frenchman making a croissant.

We were spoiled rotten last year, three holes in one on the 16th made it the most prolific year for the beloved ace in Masters history.

Of the 27 recorded over the years, 18 have come on the 16th hole, including the three mentioned above.

Now that we're on this topic, take a look at Louis Oosthuizen's from last year. A hole in one straight off the billiards table.  Just click here.

  9. Bogey for McIlroypublished at 20:56 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    McIlroy +1, Rahm -1

Jon Rahm can't take his birdie chance. He knew as soon as he struck that putt from eight feet or so that it wasn't dropping.

Plenty to be positive about for the 22-year-old though. He's shot 70 today to move to one under for the tournament.

And as for Rory McIlroy? Well, he looked to have recovered from that spot of bad luck with a neat clip onto the green, but a dreadful putt leaves him with a bogey to finish.

  11. Fowler within onepublished at 20:53 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Spieth (+4 after 7) Fowler (-3 after 8)

That's how you play a par five textbook. Rickie Fowler in the middle of the fairway after his second, wedges it to 11ft and dollies the ball home. Moves him within one.

Jordan Spieth, robotic putter, not human with the short stick normally, a borderline alien on the greens... misses. Birdie chance gone, slides past.

James Currah has sent us this belting effort.

We're back here in Augusta, Who's gonna cut the mustard? Or get flustered, like Spieth last year, Everyone's hoping it'll be Garcia, He's climbed to the top, Putt after putt after putt has dropped, Hope it never stops he's on a roll, Heads of the crowds go to and fro, Danny Willett's out of control, As it rolls towards the flag, Get in the hole!

  13. Tough luck for McIlroypublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    McIlroy (E after 17), Rahm (-1 after 17)

Rory McIlroy nails the pin with his approach shot... and that rebounds off the green leaving him a tough task to make birdie.

Very unlucky. What a clatter that made as it struck the flag pole.

The Northern Irishman was going stroke for stroke with Jon Rahm up to that point.

But it's the young Spaniard who has the chance for birdie.

  14. Lefty leaves onepublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Spieth (+4 after 6) Mickelson (-1 after 6)

Phil Mickelson, with that putter which looks like it was bought in an antique shop.... pushes it through and pushes the effort an inch wide. After his corker of a tee shot, that's a giveaway. It'll be par only.

Jordan Spieth sends one into the clouds on seven and opens up a birdie chance. Heck of a shot. He was under trees, got the loft, shaped it in there and has a chance to pull one back.

The project cut is currently +6

That could mean an early bath for defending champion Danny Willett and..

    -Shane Lowry

    -Bubba Watson

    -Trevor Immelman

    - Jose Maria Olazabal

    To name a few.

  16. 'I played great' - Garciapublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Garcia -4

Sergio Garcia is back in the clubhouse as the co-leader and the Spaniard says he feels like he "played great" on Friday.

"The first hole we were talking about, thinking it was going to be the toughest," Garcia told Sky Sports about his birdie on the opener.

"I hit a good drive with a five iron, a great shot to about 10 feet behind the hole and almost made eagle.

"I was hitting some good shots and rolling some putts in. I felt like I played great. I hit the ball better than yesterday.

"A couple of stupid mistakes, but it can happen with the way the course is playing. I stayed positive and tried and move on and made some good pars, couple of good birdies."

John McEnerney: Driving 4 show, putting 4 dough, in the bushes like Seve, it ain't that heavy, waved his wand as smooth as James Bond oh oh Seve'

Graeme Fraser:  I got 99 problems but a twitch ain't one.

  18. What a shot!published at 20:41 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Mickelson (-1 after 5) Rose (-1 after 5)

Majestic iron on six from Phil Mickelson. Right down the throat of the pin, it plugs on the green about the length of a pub pool table from the pin.

Justin Rose drawing roars like it's happy hours, rolling in an eight footer dead weight on five. Birdie time.

  19. Postpublished at 20:39 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Spieth (+4 after 6) Couples (-1 after 8)

As our graphic a few posts back stated, Jordan Spieth was not born when Fred Couples won the Masters in 1992. The pair are plugging away, Couples making par on eight. He deserved more after his pitch landed next to the pin but spun back a good 20ft.

Freddie is two under today, one under for the tournament. Spieth meanwhile is four over for the tournament and one over today. A messy card for the 2015 champion today, he's struggling for momentum.
