    Spieth (-3)

"The golfing gods are smiling down on Spieth," says our man Peter Alliss. We can't disagree.

The Texan flirts with danger on the par-four 11th, his approach threatening to dribble into the drink. Somehow it holds on the slope down towards the water.

  2. Garcia wobblespublished at 21:33 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Garcia (-4 after 7)

Sergio Garcia is in a spot of bother on seven and a poor wedge turns it into big trouble.

It all starts from the tee, so from the trees he digs out, leaving a nasty up and down for par. His chip though is heavy and he now has maybe 50ft for par.

Up on eight Ryan Moore makes his par, while on 11, Rory McIlroy does not build on that stunner of an approach shot, fluffing the putt.

Back to Sergio... his par putt is well short... this could be double bogey... no. He digs in to just drop the one shot.

    Couples (-2)

Fred Couples is still hanging around. Not quite time for this, ahem, 'older' gentleman to be leaving the young guns to it.

The 1992 champion birdies the par-five eighth to move into the red this afternoon. That lifts him into tied seventh.

    Spieth (-3)

If Jordan Spieth was dropped in a waste skip right now he would still come up smelling fragrant.

After that wayward tee-shot on 10 he misses the green with his second, only to knock on close and can a testing seven-foot putt.

That's 24 straight holes without a bogey for the Texan. He's tied third, two off the leaders Hoffman and Garcia.

    Moore (-1 after 7)

    Bounce, bounce, hits the pin.

Ryan Moore on the par-five eighth. His third shot deserved to bring up eagle, it should now at least be birdie. Still, he looks cheesed off.

  7. What a shot!published at 21:23 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

Rose (-1 after nine) Scott (-2 after nine) McIlroy (+1 after 10)

Rory McIlroy in the middle of the 11th fairway, and he sweeps through the ball... it lands just five to six feet from that glowing yellow pin. A corker.

Rors needs a lift, that could be it.

Justin Rose is in for par on nine, two-putting nicely from range. Adam Scott consolidates his birdie on eight with par of his own alongside Rose.

  8. Bogey for Fowlerpublished at 21:21 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Fowler (-3)

Talking of ducking for cover...Rickie Fowler has the patrons scattering over on seven. His approach to the green drifts right, landing in the middle of the crowd gathered around the dancefloor.

Bother. Perhaps more than a spot of it. His chip on lacks legs, leaving him needing two putts to hole out.

Down to one over today, three under for the week.

  9. Splash!published at 21:19 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Kaymer (+5 after 13)

Martin Kaymer doing what Martin Kaymer does of late and decimating his card expertly. Two over when the day started, he's five over now. He found the drink on the par-three 12th and from there, big numbers are coming your way. Chalk up double bogey for the German.

I think Garcia and Fowler are looking good. Spith obviously is a danger.

The other one that stands out is Jon Rahm who is quietly going about his business. This is a very impressive debut. At two under he is firmly in contention as he has been in most of the tournaments he has played in his Tour career. Pieters is also in contention.

    Spieth (-3)

Uh oh. Does Jordan Spieth not like this. A wayward drive on 10 ends up in the trees. Branches are ducking for cover.

Spieth has never finished worse than second as a pro here. Anytime you show up at Augusta you have to look at him as a danger man.

You can listen to coverage of the Masters on 5 live right now. They'll be all over this third round until the final putt on the 18th.

    Garcia (-5 after 6) Hoffman (-5 after 6)

Gutsy putt from Sergio Garcia brings out the one-handed fist clench. Par save.

But Charley Hoffman will walk on having given a shot away. He misses a similar putt to that which Garcia faced.

  16. Birdie for Spiethpublished at 21:15 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Spieth (-3)

Moving day for you or us is lugging heavy boxes and trying to convince your mate to give you a hand despite her dodgy back.

Moving day for Jordan Spieth is flying up the Augusta leaderboard.

The Texan knocks in his third birdie in four holes, lifting himself up to tied fourth. He's out in 33.

  17. Big save!published at 21:13 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    McGirt (-3 after 7)

William McGirt in trouble on seven. He launched 290 yards into the trees and then found sand. All of the above means he's got a long way to go for par on this green. Off he sets the putt, nice line, pace is slowing, pace is slowing... it's in! A save Gordon Banks would be proud of.

    Garcia (-5 after 5)

    Iain Carter
BBC Radio 5 live at Augusta

This is Sergio Garcia’s 74th major, among active players only Lee Westwood (76th) has played more without winning one.  American Jay Haas (87) has played most majors and failed to claim one of the game’s biggest prizes.  Garcia’s Masters record is modest to say the least. The Spaniard has only three top-10’s from 18 previous visits with his share of fourth in 2004 his best return.

You can hear more from Iain Carter on BBC Radio 5 live from 21:00 BST.

    Spieth (-2)

Jordan Spieth is flying. The man who has only won or finished no lower than second at Augusta looks keen to continue that remarkable record.

He spanks a beauty of a mid-iron approach to withing two feet on the par-four ninth.
