  1. What a putt!published at 21:06 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Garcia (-5 after 7) Hoffman (-6 after 7)

That's the magic right there. The Sergio Garcia magic which we all know is in the locker, it just needs to be set free. Around 40ft, downhill, gorgeous weight and in it goes.

Charley Hoffman makes his par and holds a lead of one from the Spaniard.

    Garcia (-4 after 5) Hoffman (-6 after 5)

"Aaaahhh," screams Sergio Garcia. His ball is so high on seven it's coming down with Jupiter dust on it. Plumps down next to Charley Hoffman's on the green. Both men have the length of a couple of double decker buses to the hole.

Perhaps Rory and Rickie are having a who-can-wear-the-worst-trousers competition?

Both lads would be barracked on your local High Street for sporting them.

    Fowler (-4)

Rickie Fowler, trousers as bright blue as the clear sky, settles into his stance himself on the sixth tee. Mid-iron in hand, the American lands in the centre of the dancefloor. A more-than tricky uphill, right to left 40-odd foot lies in wait when he gets there.

  7. Bogeypublished at 20:59 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    McGirt (-3 after 6)

Char Schwartzel makes the turn one under for the day, one over in all. Rory McIlroy is on the same mark after nine too. He lags a putt up the hill and converts for par from close in. After that rapid start, Rory has started chugging.

William McGirt drops one on six, his par putt shook hands with the hole and then moved on.

  8. Bogey for Pieterspublished at 20:58 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Pieters (-3)

Another shot dropped for Thomas Pieters. The Augusta debutant lips out with an eight-footer on the fifth green. That leaves him three off leader Charley Hoffman.

  9. Conversion time for Fowler and Hoffmanpublished at 20:57 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Iain Carter
BBC Radio 5 live at Augusta

Rickie Fowler and Charley Hoffman have never converted a halfway lead into victories on the PGA Tour. This is the fifth time Fowler has been in pole position after 36 holes on the American circuit, while the 40-year-old Hoffman has been in front at this stage on six previous occasions. A four-time winner on tour, he is making his 23rd major start. Phil Mickelson is playing his 25th Masters.

You can hear more from Iain Carter on BBC Radio 5 live from 21:00 BST.

  10. Hoffman to -6published at 20:56 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Hoffman (-6 after 4) Garcia (-4 after 4) Scott (-1 after 7)

Green shirt, grey slacks, navy cap. A generally boring outfit but Charley Hoffman threw the kitchen sink at that last tee shot and deserves a colourful reward. His 10ft putt doesn't deviate from the cup line and that's very good. What a start he's had.

Sergio Garcia cannot match his playing partner on the green. Up to Adam Scott after his finessed iron into the green on seven... no joy with the birdie putt. He looks at it as if it's just given him a pair of plain blue socks for Christmas. Disgust.

Hoffman would probably love such a choice.

  11. Birdie for Spiethpublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Spieth (-2)

Close, but not close enough. Jordan Spieth slaps his left thigh in frustration as he pushes that eagle putt to the left of the hole.

Birdie will do. He's up into tied sixth.

  15. Eagle chance for Spiethpublished at 20:51 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Spieth (-1)

Look behind you! Jordan Spieth is on the charge. The perennial Masters challenger knocks a fairway wood within 10 feet on the par-five eighth. That's for an eagle.

To be fair, that shot is jammy than a moist doughnut. It kicks up a ridge in front of the green, hits the right flank, then rolls round down the first cut to within striking distance.

    Scott (-1 after 6)

    Catwalk modelImage source, Getty Images

I've always thought Adam Scott could jack golf in and work as a runway model. He has that lean, nicely-postured look about him. He puts his club back in his bag like a gent putting an umbrella away on Savile Row, his work is done, a fine iron into the seventh gives a birdie look...

  17. What a shot!published at 20:47 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Hoffman (-5 after 3) Garcia (-4 after 3)

Charley Hoffman is taking names on the par-three fourth. He saunters onto the tee box, glares down the fairway and gives it a "who are you looking at?"

He has the hustle to match his swagger, clumping one in to within four feet.

What have you got Sergio Garcia? Equally good albeit via a different route. Sergio uses a slope on the green but both men have big looks at the tweet tweet...

  19. Bogey for Couplespublished at 20:47 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Couples (-1)

Fred Couples drops his first shot of the afternoon to move back down the leaderboard. Never mind Freddie, you've got the best slacks in Augusta. That's according to one veteran BBC commentator...

  20. Eagle for Mac?published at 20:45 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Garcia (-4 after 3) McIlroy (+2 after 7)

    Sergio Garcia

Now we're not in the type of disaster territory Sergio normally saves for round three at Augusta, but he has just missed a birdie chance on three. The Spaniard was looking for a shade more break than he got.

Charley Hoffman also makes par, while over on eight, Rory McIlroy is going to hole out for EAGLE IS HE? So close. A fine pitch from among spectators nearly rolls home but it should be birdie on the par five.
