  1. Birdie for Fowlerpublished at 21:32 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Fowler (-5), Spieth (-2)

Birdie putts for both Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth on eight. Boy, do they need these. First up is Spieth from six feet...missed. Fowler from half that distance...holed.

Rickie is back to level for the day and five under overall. And we can hear a deafening roar from over yonder - Sergio? Rose?

  2. Glory? Disaster?published at 21:31 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

The a par five for Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia. This takes me back to the Kevin Costner classic 'Tin Cup'. Do you go for the green or lay up?

Costner went for it... and blew the US Open.

    Casey (-3)

Go, go, go! Paul Casey takes a spadeful of sand on the 11th, leaving a lengthy par putt. Nope, he's missed it. Casey starts Amen Corner with his first bogey of the day.

  4. Will Rose and Garcia be chatting?published at 21:28 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

They are such good friends I know but personally I wouldn't be talking much.

  5. The lead is one...published at 21:26 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Garcia (-8 after 7) (Rose -7 after 7)

Sergio Garcia's fist is clenched and hats off to him, that was Houdini stuff. The sand escape was rock solid, the nerve over the putt likewise.

Justin Rose is in for birdie, very nicely done. The lead is one.

    Casey (-4)

This shot deserves much, much more. Paul Casey is playing a game of hide and seek in the trees on the left of the 11th, suddenly springing out to surprise the green with a low punchy draw.

Unfortunately for the Englishman, the ball keeps trundling...until it reaches the bunker at the back of the putting surface. 'Mare.

  7. 'Sergio needs a tickling stick, not a putter'published at 21:23 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Iain Carter
BBC Radio 5 live at Augusta

Great imagination from Sergio Garcia to get it that close, but that is a difficult par putt down the hill that he is left with.

He doesn't need a putter. He needs one of Ken Dodd's tickling sticks for that one.

Garcia escaped the sand to leave around five feet.

  8. Birdie for Schwartzelpublished at 21:21 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Schwartzel (-3)

Charl Schwartzel joins another with an annual invite to the Masters champions' dinner - Adam Scott - in tied fifth with a birdie on the ninth. Been there, done it, got the Green Jacket.

Sergio Garcia will maybe drop one here on seven though. From the trees he finds a greenside bunker - though Paul Azinger on BBC Two thinks he was aiming for the sand trap. Magic needed and Justin Rose twists the knife, putting his ball close. We could be level at the top in a moment.

    Spieth (-2), Fowler (-4)

Jordan, we never doubted you. Spieth gets himself out a sticky spot with a confident par putt on seven, playing partner Fowler doing the same from the other side of the pin.

These two haven't caught fire yet. Metaphorically, not literally.

    Garcia (-8 after 6)

He started it left and it didn't come back. Sergio Garcia is deep in the trees and he will work miracles to make par from there on this 450-yard drag. Justin Rose in the fairway. The momentum, it swings...

    Spieth (-2)

Talking of Oompa Loompas, Spieth is playing like he is using a Wonka Bar for a club. He dumps his chip short on the seventh from the fringe. He's heading towards Bogeyville.

    Fowler (-4), Spieth (-2)

We said it will be near-impossible for Rickie Fowler to hit the deck on the seventh. Near being the key word. He's only bloomin' gone and done it! A wonderful blast from the semi-rough flies under the trees and up onto the green. Sen-sa-tion-al.

Spieth has a much easier approach from the fairway. He makes a meal of it, hitting the front fringe and going backwards for the umpteenth time today. More mishits than Ronny Rosenthal from the 2015 winner.

  16. Memories of 2007?published at 21:10 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

I remember walking with Sergio Garcia when he was four shots clear after three holes of the final round of the 2007 Open at Carnoustie. Will the memories of that play-off defeat by Padraig Harrington play on his mind?

    Rose (-6 after 6) Garcia (-8 after 6)

Lee Westwood's reward for scrambling well on eight for par is to make birdie on nine. A sublime approach puts him right up close. Nice Westy.

Just Rose, behind those poker glasses, has a flush in his hand. He flushes his ball over the pin on six and it comes to rest maybe six feet from the cup. Sergio Garcia is way left on this green... he takes his second and he will have a right knee-knocker left for par.

Rose first... makes it. Pressure transferred to Sergio... no problem. These two are beginning to land punches on one another.

  18. 'I don't think that Paul Casey can catch Sergio Garcia'published at 21:08 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Jay Townsend
BBC Radio 5 live at Augusta

I don't think that Paul Casey can catch Sergio Garcia. He is four under through nine, but I think that the winning score will be around 10 under. It is going to take something really special on the back nine, even with these pin positions, for him to end up wearing the green jacket.

  19. Postpublished at 21:07 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Schwartzel (-2)

Charl Schwartzel is wearing green. He wasn't planning to win today, was he? Green on green is not a good look. And it's going to happen for the South African former champ, I would respectfully suggest.

One birdie followed by one bogey, on two and three, keeps him level at the turn. That's six adrift of Sergio.

    Fowler (-4), Spieth (-2)

The seventh is the tightest hole on the course and Ricky Fowler has just hit his tee shot in to the trees. It'll be near impossible to find the green from there.

No such worries for Jordan Spieth, who clubs his drive down the middle of the fairway.
