    Moore (-3 after 7) Hoffman (-2 after 7)

I think we can wave goodbye to Charley Hoffman for this year. He's just played the seventh very, very badly.

Putting from the fringe with his third shot on this par four, he doesn't give it enough and stays in the fringe. A long downhill and almost impossible par save runs past and his effort coming back is tame, the putt of a man who knows he's done.

Playing partner Ryan Moore barely needed the putter, his iron to within a foot is birdie-tastic.

Mickey Wallis: Sergio storms ahead, but of the leading pack he's got to be the most susceptible to a collapse. There's a long way to go!!!

  3. Bogey for Spiethpublished at 21:01 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Spieth (-2), Fowler (-4)

Jordan Spieth is again required to point Rickie Fowler in the right direction from just off the front of the sixth green.

Too big. As is his putt back. Bogey for Spieth.

Fowler watches and learns, knocking his chip short before rattling in the putt for the par.

  4. The lead is three...published at 21:00 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Garcia (-8 after 5) Rose (-5 after 5)

We have drama on five, big drama. Both Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia come up short on this deep, deep green. They each have 50ft or so and Rose putts past the flag and almost off the green. Garcia makes no mistake, putting it to within a whisker... so Rose needs to make a big one for par... and doesn't.

    Casey (-4)

No messing about! Paul Casey means business. Confident tap, disappears down the drain quicker than a sewer rat. He's into tied third!

  6. Postpublished at 20:57 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Casey (-3)

Paul Casey is golf's version of Rod Hull at the moment. He's got his ball on a string. A wedge on the ninth, bounces almost pin high and checks immediately. Good ball. Another birdie chance for an outbound 32...

    Pieters (-2 after 8) Westwood (-1 after 8)

Lee Westwood digs deep, deep, deep into his soul on the par-five eight. He finds trees and has to chip out, so he's scrambling like an egg in a cafe. He drains a lengthy putt for the save.

Thomas Pieters, as we told you earlier, played the hole perfectly and puts six feet away for birdie.

    Fowler (-4), Spieth (-3)

"Get up, get up!" This time it isn't Jordan Spieth willing his ball on, it is one of his fans on the sixth.

An undercooked tee-shot leaves him feeling queasy. Back she goes after hitting the front bank.

Will Fowler learn anything? Nope. He's sticks a seven iron into an almost identical position. More misjudgement as a gleeful Augusta rubs its hands.

  9. A 30?published at 20:53 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    McIlroy (-1 after 9)

    Peter Alliss
    BBC Sport commentator at Augusta

Rory needs to get back in 30 if he is to post a score. It has been done before, many times.

I wonder what Bobby Jones would make of the speed of these greens now? I'm not sure he would be in favour.

  11. 'The pins are there to go at'published at 20:52 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Fitzpatrick (+4)

England's Matt Fitzpatrick, who carded a 70 today to finish four over, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was a little bit better today. The flags are pretty traditional on a Sunday. I learned a lot from last year. That helped.

"The big thing round here is to chip the ball very well. Once the greens dry out it becomes really tough.

"The pins are there to go at. There are nice ones to make birdies. Take your pars on the tricky ones and go on from there."

  12. The key stat?published at 20:50 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Casey (-3 after 8)

    Shaun Micheel
2003 US PGA Championship winner, BBC Radio 5 live

I think that greens in regulation is a very important stat for this tournament. It indicates how well you are playing tee to green and that creates opportunities for birdies.

Paul Casey leads the way in that particular indicator with 48 out of 62. It's serving him well.

Rickie Fowler squirting that par putt by is another moment that edges us closer to a Sergio Garcia victory.

  14. Bogey for Fowlerpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Fowler (-4), Spieth (-3)

Someone call International Rescue. Rickie Fowler, the man with the Thunderbirds-esque eyebrows, is in a spot of bother.

The majorless American chips back on from Row A of the grandstand, only to miss his 10-foot putt back. Another hole, another dropped shot.

He's back to four under, one ahead of his playing partner Spieth. Another bit of fortune for the Texan who sinks his par putt with the help of a good percentage of the lip.

  15. Chance gone... chance on...published at 20:48 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Pieters (-1 after 7) Hoffman (-4 after 6)

Charley Hoffman's putter is a little arctic at the moment. He lofted a gorgeous tee shot into the green on five but dribbles his ball grimly off line. Thomas Pieters up on eight is still plugging away. A 325-yard drive and solid second leaves him short of the green for two on this par five - prime position to attack birdie.

  16. Birdie for Caseypublished at 20:45 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Casey (-3)

Those who stuck a quid on Paul Casey finishing in the top 10 (not only me, surely?) are getting mildly excited. The Englishman knocks in a short birdie putt on eight. The TV producer at Augusta enjoyed it so much he or she played it twice. They must have a fiver on him.

    Garcia (-8 after 4) Rose (-6 after 8)

Historically there is a lot of to-ing and fro-ing on the front nine.

The two-shot lead that Sergio Garcia has at the moment is nice but there is a long, long way to go yet.

Garcia and Rose both two-putt from range on four. Excellent weight on both second shots to allow for tap ins. Par-par.

  19. Postpublished at 20:43 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Fowler (-5), Spieth (-3)

Fowler lines up his second on the fifth, just in the first cut. He lets go of his grip, a few groans from the patrons. Not good signs. Ball pings off a ridge, hurtling off to keep the base of the grandstand company. Same spot as Charley Hoffman a few moments ago.

Spieth resists the temptation to smirk as he pops his ball onto the dancefloor.

    Hoffman (-4 after 5) Moore (-2 after 5)

Charley Hoffman hits a truly ugly iron from the middle of the fifth fairway. That one made Quasimodo look like a pink Azalea. It's so far right he gets a drop as it's tight to the makeshift spectator stands. He pitches and leaves too much of a par putt. One gone.

Ryan Moore alongside him is in for par but they now face a horrid par three on six.
