So it's one shot with four to play. Nervous much? That sound you can hear over your shoulder is the clattering of each man's knees.

Both hit the fairway on 15. A par five. Albatross anyone?

Schwartzel's ball is flirting with the bunker. More than flirting. Chocolates bought. And flowers.

    Schwartzel (-5)

Schwartzel urges his ball to go right but the little swine is dead set on its trajectory down the 18th. It is bunker-bound and takes a couple of bounces before lodging itself in the sand.

Justin Rose showed a lot of guts holing that final putt. It was anything but easy.

Sergio Garcia is hunting down the birdies and eagles that could yet make him a major champion!

    It is on!

  7. Sergio strikes backpublished at 23:14 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Rose (-8 after 14) Garcia (-7 after 14)

It's getting edgy. Justin Rose from distance doesn't judge the break right. He thinks it's more aggressive than it actually is and his ball doesn't take the slope, finishing high. It leaves six feet for par.

To Sergio Garcia, NOT DONE YET. Birdie and he is alive, fist pumping to make seven under.

If Rose misses this we are all square, surely not? I can't handle it, even my hands are trembling. Good job JR's aren't, it's in.

  8. Pieters enhances his reputationpublished at 23:12 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Pieters (-5), Schwartzel (-5), Westwood (+1)

Thomas Pieters looking for birdie at the last. He has 15 feet to deal with. But from the moment the ball leaves the putter face it is clear he doesn't look it, pulling up to the skulk around the moving ball.

He makes a small amends by rolling in the par putt to end on five under and tied for third.

Can Schwartzel nick ahead of the Belgian? Not yet he can't. His putt at 17 pulls up short.

Westwood, playing with Pieters, ends with a par and finishes +1.

    Garcia (-6 after 13) Rose (-8 after 13)

Some discussion between caddie and player as Justin Rose lines up on 14. The player thinks he can't make the pin with the club in his hand, his bag man and advisor says he can.

He doesn't make it, leaving it short on the green.

In comes Sergio, again he grimaces with the ball in flight... brilliant. It pitches pin high and rolls close, four feet left.

    Schwartzel (-5 after 16)

Charl Schwartzel on 17, he needs some of the 2011 momentum he conjured to win. His swing sounds like a fighter jet taking off... woosh.. through the ball.

Onto the dancefloor but the tunes are not blaring too loudly. He's a good 25ft away.

  12. 'Not good enough for me here'published at 23:07 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    McIlroy (-3)

Rory McIlroy, who finished three under with a 69, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was pretty good. It was solid. I didnt get off to the start I wanted to. But it was playing tricky. I did what I wanted to do by taking advantage of the par fives and not getting trouble. It was a battle for a 69 and ultimately not good enough.

"I'm at the point now where it is nice [to finish top 10]. I am proud of myself how I handled the conditions first two days. I had an opportunity to shoot something in the mid-60s yesterday and didn't and that left me too much to do.

"So it is another top 10 but it is not good enough for me here."

  13. That's how you finish!published at 23:04 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Casey (-4)

Paul Casey with some magic dust on 18. From way left and near sand traps he scoops one up to the edge of the green and buries the putt. He had no right to walk away with birdie but he does and that's four under for the tournament. That puts him in the top 10.

  14. Pieters hanging in therepublished at 23:02 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Pieters (-5)

Double bogey, par, bogey is how Thomas Pieters has done on 18 this tournament. His final drive is a typically big one, though. He will be wanting birdie to give himself half a fighting chance should the unlikely collapse come form the boys at the top.

  16. 'It could have been a four-shot lead'published at 23:01 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Mark Chapman
    BBC Sport presenter at Augusta

The leaders could easily have been going to the 14th tee with Justin Rose four shots clear, as it is the gap remains at two.

  17. Garcia survives (for now)published at 23:01 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Rose (-8 after 13) Garcia (-6 after 13)

Justin Rose played a sumptuous chip from behind the green, the slope taking it close to miss the hole and eventually leave around six feet for birdie and a three-shot lead.

Sergio Garcia saved par having taken a drop on that par five but he will feel some let off at least as he sees Rose's putt pull left of the hole.

Will that get int Justin Rose's head? He's on the fairway on 14...

  18. Postpublished at 22:59 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Pieters (-5), Schwarzel (-5)

Pieters at 17. He has 15 feet for birdie... it is on its way... no. He makes par, though.

The same goes for Charl Schwartzel at 16, who also strokes his birdie putt wide before salvaging par.

    Rose (-8 after 12) Garcia (-6 after 12)

    Justin RoseImage source, .

Sergio Garcia will have around eight feet for par on 13 after lobbing his fourth shot onto a slope and seeing it run closer and closer.

Justin Rose is in a great position, through the back of the putting surface for just two blows. Up and down for birdie? Up and down for the Green Jacket?

  20. 'Rose is not going to beat himself'published at 22:54 British Summer Time 9 April 2017

    Jay Townsend
BBC Radio 5 live at Augusta

Justin Rose will have the comfort of being able to play more conservative golf. He is a tactician. He is not going to beat himself with errors of judgement. He is really looking good. They will be starting to measure him up for the green jacket.
