Brian Harman almost dances to the hole such is the size of his first stride after making a big par putt on seven. Rickie Fowler is on the 10th tee and attempting to kick on from the birdie on nine. A swipe of his driver and with some draw his ball is in the fairway.

    Leishman (-5 after 12)

A badly fluffed chip on the 12th has just cost Marc Leishman. It brings up a six on this par four and he slides back from the pack.

  4. Birdie - Fleetwood ties for the leadpublished at 22:09 British Summer Time 17 June 2017

    Fleetwood (-9 after 8)

We had a new leader, now we have new co-leaders.

Tommy Fleetwood's crafty approach on eight proves more than just wise as he nails an impressive birdie chance to move to nine under alongside Justin Thomas.

    Thomas (-9 after 17)

We have a new leader and it's Justin Thomas.

The pink-trousered American rattles in his ninth birdie of the round on 17.

He's played golf from the gods at times today, just a shame he picked up bogeys on four and 10.

Birdie the last and he'll get a 64.

  6. Birdie for Fowler...published at 22:07 British Summer Time 17 June 2017

    Fowler (-8 after 9) Harman (-8 after 6) Lovemark (-5 after 9)

Rickie Fowler and Jamie Lovemark go pin hunting on the par three ninth and their radar is on. Both have short putts for a two.

Brian Harman meanwhile could be about to wave a share of the lead goodbye as he's in the sand on seven, his saving grace is it's a par five. He wedges out and now has to get up and down from around 70 yards to save par.

Fowler drains his putt, a good response from that poor previous hole. Lovemark cannot put his away. Wasted.

    Fleetwood (-8 after 7), Koepka (-8 after 7)

Fleetwood doesn't make the same mistake as Fowler on the eighth, staying wisely over the other side of the hole on the green.

Koepka follows with another solid effort. Very measured golf from these two, nothing too flashy but nothing reckless either.

    Pepperell (-4)

England's Eddie Pepperell finishes off an excellent round by just missing out on a birdie at the last. Three under for the day and four under overall for the 26-year-old.

    Fowler (-7 after 8)

So, stick with me here. Rickie Fowler has a wedge out and he's stood on the green. He decides he is too far from the cup to putt this, I did say he'd do well to get this in in two.

This is a bit different and right now he is wishing he'd thought of something else because that chip is running like Forrest Gump past the hole. He has 15ft or more left for his par.

"That right there is Forrest Gump sir, he's just a local idiot."

Fowler misses his putt. That's one less leader.

    Hoffman (-8 after 13)

Hoffman pulls off a remarkable save to take par at the 13th. Digging it out of a small bunker and continuing his stellar putting performance to remain in a share of the lead.

Welcome to the party. JB Holmes drills back-to-back birdies to reach the turn at seven under and one shot off the lead.

    Fleetwood (-8 after 7), Koepka (-8 after 7), Leishman (-7 after 11)

All of a sudden nobody can make a birdie putt. First Fleetwood misses on 7, then Leishman on 11, then Koepka back on 7. Pars all round.

    Fowler (-8 after 7) Harman (-8 after 5)

This is fascinating stuff. Players nudging one another on and it's anyone's right now. None of them in contention have won a major by the way.

Rickie Fowler finds the green on eight but he's a long way from the pin and will do well to two putt. Brian Harman meanwhile pitches in close on the sixth to leave a short par putt. Neither will reach nine under any time soon.

    Thomas (-8 after 16)

Justin Thomas is the latest to have a chance of taking the outright lead but slides his birdie putt far past the hole.

Can he stay at eight under? Yep, good par.

    Fleetwood (-8 after 6)

Fleetwood looks like he's led plenty of majors before, the way he's playing.

Nothing but green on the seventh.

The Hoff with a chance to move out in front by himself again. It looks good but curls just wide right. A par has to do.

    Koepka (-8 after 6)

Koepka won't die wondering here, launching a big, burly second shot on the par-five seventh towards the green.

He finds sand instead but doesn't look the toughest bunker shot, he could still grab a birdie chance.

    Fowler (-8 after 7)

This is getting silly. Rickie Fowler walks after his ball as it drops into the cup on the par-five seventh hole. That is a birdie and that is eight men sharing the lead. Enough is enough.

  19. Reed rips it uppublished at 21:40 British Summer Time 17 June 2017

    Reed (-8)

American Patrick Reed rattled in a seven-under-par 65 on Saturday to zip up the leaderbaord.

He told Sky Sports: "It was awesome to go out and play a solid round of golf. I had some loose tee shots but the putter got hot and it was a lot of fun.

"I was really seeing the lines and once I’d got through the first five or six holes I felt like I had the speed.

"It's 10 shots better than yesterday, but yesterday I felt like I hit the ball better. The difference was most of my birdie putts were uphill today and I could attack, yesterday was opposite."

    Thomas (-8 after 15)

Justin Thomas has not made an eagle in 158 holes at US Open tournaments.

    Is this the first?

Oh my days, he's missed it left. Poor putt, especially in contrast to his magical tee shot.

But, it's still a birdie and Thomas is on to eight under and a six-way tie for the lead.
