  1. What a shot!published at 19:31 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Stroud -6 (2) Oosthuizen -5 (2) Molinari -2 (2)

    Louis Oosthuizen

What a shot this is. The penultimate group are onto the second and Louis Oosthuizen has put his tee shot right up against a tree trunk on the left of the fairway.

It looks as though a chip out is all he can do but, with his back up against the tree and his feet in the roots, he avoids the obstacle on the back swing and somehow makes the green. The South African just comes short with his lengthy birdie putt but that'll still feel like a shot gained rather than dropped.

The same can't be said for Francesco Molinari. He follows a double on the first with a bogey and slips way back.

A few drops of rain falling now as Matsuyama finds the green from the first cut of rough. Kisner continues in steady fashion by playing into the heart of the green and Day - after another drive well over 300 yards - plays a majestic pitch to three feet.

  3. 'I had to give him a hug for it'published at 19:26 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

It was dark, very dark when Jason Day, Dustin Johnson and Henrik Stenson finished their second rounds late last night.

It was clear none of the players fancied an early alarm this morning to complete their second round as they were seen jogging between holes to beat the hooter which signals the end of play.

Day in particular was grateful to Johnson for rushing through and theoretically giving the Australian - who is the best placed of the trio - a better chance of a low round today having escaped the early rise.

"That's the biggest or most clutch thing I've ever seen anyone do for me," Day said. "I had to give him a hug for it.

"He was happy as well obviously, to be able to finish and not have to wake up at 5.30."

Day looked brilliant yesterday. He is hitting it absolutely miles.

He looks back to his best but whether he is we don't know yet. He might not even know. We will have to find out.

Kevin Kisner kept it simple in his press conference last night. Speaking in a slow Californian drawl, he said: "Guys work too hard trying to figure out golf courses instead of just getting the ball in the hole."

  6. Molinari doubles bogeys the firstpublished at 19:22 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Stroud -6 (1) Oosthuizen -6 (1) Molinari -3 (1)

Italian Francesco Molinari has had a shocker at the first carding a double bogey. He hit his first shot into the rough, his second into a bunker and it didn't get any better from there with another four shots needed to find the hole on the par four. That sees him drop out of the top five.

Molinari is in the penultimate group alongside Chris Stroud and Louis Oosthuizen who both made par.

  7. After 1 holepublished at 19:21 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    -8 Kisner; -7 Matsuyama; -6 Day

Kisner's double breaking putt from distance touches the hole but stays up so he makes par. Matsuyama misses on the right from four feet and makes his first bogey for 22 holes to drop out of the lead. Day holes from four feet for par. Be the man, Jason.

Matsuyama won last week and has been playing so well this year that mentally he will be so prepared for the last two rounds.

Greenside bunker for Matsuyama but from the middle of the fairway Day puts it in the same trap. Kisner is on the green in regulation.

Matsuyama took his hand off the club, as he so often seems to, but this one does go out to the right and into some thick stuff.

PGA secretary Jim Richerson bellows out the names of the final group on the first tee. He doesn't have the subtlety of former European Tour starter Ivor Robson, who once offered me a lift to Wentworth that I sadly had to decline, but there is plenty of power there. Huge cheer for Day, who I have just been given in the sweepstake for who will lead at the end of today. Come on Jason. Two back to start with remember, I might not see that pound again.

The shot tracer has to be one of the finest innovations in sport. I would love to see how they do it. Twice former winner Vijay Singh is still launching them off the tee at the age of 54, that has gone 125 feet up. The big Fijian is six over though, he took a triple bogey at the par four fifth hole.

    Fowler -3 Casey -3 Thomas -3

The leading British player Paul Casey has just got under way on the first tee. He's playing alongside Americans Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas.

The trio get along well - just look at the love in the clip below ahead of the round - with Fowler describing them as "buddies".

“It will be fun to see the three of us feed off of each other and get some good rounds going,” he added.

    Cute.
