  1. What's the weather like?published at 18:35 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

John West, BBC weather forecaster: It’s looking like a mixture of sunny spells and some heavy showers today, but these should ease somewhat through the afternoon with temperatures reaching a maximum of 30 C. I'm afraid there does indeed look like there could be an outside risk of thunder, but the showers are fairly isolated at the moment, with some clear skies developing upwind on the satellite.

Light south-westerly winds will make it feel quite pleasant outside of the showers, but without much of a breeze it will feel rather warm and humid.

Tomorrow, it’s looking like a dry and cloudy start, with a return to sunshine and showers in the afternoon. Temperatures reaching 29 C, and feeling more humid with light and variable breezes.

Let's find out if we are in danger of any more delays and I have told our colleague John West we don't want any fishy forecasts containing thunder.

  3. Olesen fadespublished at 18:30 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen was the joint first-round leader and still well placed midway through his round yesterday before successive double bogeys led to a 78 and a three over halfway total. So instead of being late off with the leaders he was in the seventh group out this morning and has dropped another shot, but playing partner Lee Westwood has made a far worse start, with three shots squandered in his first two holes.

Spieth is playing with tousle-haired Lancastrian Tommy Fleetwood who has had a mixed bag so far, with three bogeys and two birdies in his first six holes. He's also four over.

  6. Spieth back to four overpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

Maybe Spieth heard me say he wasn't going to win, he has just holed a monster putt from the edge of the green for a birdie three, only the second birdie of the day at the long par four. The Open champion is four over, but that's still 12 behind leaders Kisner and Matsuyama, who are off in 40 minutes.

  7. Spieth in the distancepublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    +5 (8)

We began the week by wondering if Jordan Spieth could complete his set of majors but The Open champion is not going to do it this time, he's five over for the Championship. However, after three bogeys in his opening six holes he has just had his first birdie of the day at the short par four eighth.

So that delay of one hour and 43 minutes due to the threat of lightning yesterday meant an extremely late finish for us and 25 players had to return to the course at 7:30am local time. The cut came at five over, which was one too many for Englishmen Justin Rose and Ross Fisher.

Luke Donald, Martin Laird, Graeme McDowell, Bubba Watson, Matt Fitzpatrick, Russell Knox, Padraig Harrington, Andy Sullivan, Danny Willett and Phil Mickelson were among the players to miss out for the weekend.
