    H Li -3 (18)

Haotong Li after a round of 69 on his Masters debut: "I played quite solid and made a few putts."

When asked 'don't you need lots of experience to play here?' he replied: "I've been watching on TV a lot of times. You just need to put the ball on the fairway and I did great today."

    T Finau -4 (17)

Our leader Tony Finau strides purposefully on to the 18th tee, having saved par on the 17th after going through the back with his second shot. The big-hitting American - the longest driver on the PGA Tour this year with an average of 321.1 yards - wallops his drive down the 18th fairway. Just the 305 yards here...

  4. I hit a lot of good shots - Garcia reflects on his 13published at 22:50 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

"I don't know what to tell you," said defending champion Sergio Garcia after hitting five balls in the water on the 15th as he recorded a nine-over 81.

"It's the first time in my career where I make a 13 without missing a shot. Simple as that.

"I felt like I hit a lot of good shots and unfortunately the ball just didn't want to stop. I don't know, it's just one of those things. So it's just unfortunate, but that's what it is."

    J Rose E, D Johnson +1, R Cabrera-Bello -1 (13)

Dustin Johnson to show us the way on 13... the world number one goes for it, sends the ball out right, peers around the corner to see it swing violently left. Good pace, wrong line.

From Dustin to Justin... Rose comes in from 10 o'clock to Johnson's 6 o'clock, confidently going for the eagle. the ball slides just to the right of the can, leaving a tap-in for the birdie. The Englishman is moving in the right direction.

  6. 'I was able to attack'published at 22:43 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    P Reed -3 (18)

American Patrick Reed after his round of 69, which shares the clubhouse lead: "It was steady, I had a game plan coming into this week and to only miss one fairway is pretty good. Just by driving the ball well made me really comfortable and be able to attack the golf course."

Is Justin Rose about to make his move? After a birdie on 12, he nails his second shot on 13. Get on your dancing shoes, Rosey. Eagle chance....

Playing partner Dustin Johnson follows suit with a equally-impressive second shot. He's about 25 foot away, Rose is inside that...

    Text 81111 (UK only) #bbcgolf

Bryan Chua: Hit my first two drives OB, third drive up against a fence, took a penalty for unplayable lie, sliced into a bunker, 3 shots to get out of the bunker and 2 putts for a 12 on a par 4. Finished the round +6 (78) overall. Hahaha.

Tom Dodd: Played a foursomes tournament with my Dad and drove a ball he'd had for six rounds out of bounds on the first hole. To this day he hasn't shut up about it.

... make that six. Haotong Li has holed out for his bogey on the last and drops back into the pack. Tony Finau is back out on his own at the front.

    J Spieth -3 (after 13)

Watch out lads, Jordan is on your back. Spieth reaches the 13th green in two, sensibly not attacking the eagle putt and then tapping in for a birdie. The world number four hasn't had a win since his Open triumph at Birkdale, but he's already looming ominous here. The American is in a five-way tie for second...

Haotong Li - or HT as he is known to his mates - is scrabbling for a par on the last. He's stuck on the far left edge, wedge in hand. He can't. Can he? The Chinese player deftly knocks a chip with firm wrists, the ball hits hole and flag but has too much pace to drop.

  12. 'He's doing it properly'published at 22:30 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    T Finau -4 (16)

    Andrew Magee
American PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

(On Tony Finau, who has recovered from an ankle injury sustained celebrating at yesterday's par three event) "I thought he was finished for the next half of the season and now he's leading the Masters. (Should he not have celebrated so elaborately?) "It's his first Masters, he's doing it properly."

    T Finau -4 (16)

Close... but not close enough. Tony Finau thinks he has nailed another two, Augusta has other ideas unfortunately for the American. The ball nips away at the last possible second, clipping the edge and lipping out.

  14. Birdie for McIlroypublished at 22:27 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    R McIlroy -2 (13)

Rory McIlroy fires up his putter to sink his third birdie of the round, an excellent up and down from the sand. He's up to two-under and in a five-man pack just adrift of the leaders.

  15. Postpublished at 22:23 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    R McIlroy -1 (12)

Rory has done well coming out of the sand on 13, controlling his ball to keep it on the top deck of their putting surface. Another birdie chance...

A hole behind is Justin Rose, who hasn't started to, ahem, bloom yet. The Englishman nails his tee-shot on the iconic 12th, pitching just to the left of the pin and stunning to a stop about five foot past.

  16. Ken on the course - what's in the bag?published at 22:20 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

Yes folks, it's the moment we've all been waiting for. BBC Sport golf commentator Ken Brown is about to head out on to the fairways and greens of Augusta National.

What's in his kit bag this year? Clearly a duck for starters...

  17. Postpublished at 22:19 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    R McIlroy -1 (12)

"Sit. SIT!" McIlroy knows he's overcooked his approach on 13, ball skipping off firm green and landing in the bunker at the back. Too aggressive? A less attacking shot, followed by a couple of putts, would have done the job. Easier to say than do I suppose...

    H Li -4 (17)

Talking of impressive saves... Haotong Li - after going for a walk in the trees on 17 - has buried that par putt.

    J Spieth -2 (after 12)

You might think Jordan Spieth still has nightmares about THAT day on the 12th. If he has then it doesn't come to the fore today. The Texan isn't happy with his tee shot, knocking it short into the sand - "Wow!" is his reaction - but rallies to save par. Gutsy.

  20. Finau and Li share leadpublished at 22:13 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    H Li -4 (16), Finau -4 (15)

Li is actually able to knock a chip and run through the two bunkers in front of the 17th green, leaving him with a nine-foot putt to save par. Meanwhile, Tony Finau bounces straight back from that bogey on 14 with a birdie on 15... and goes back into a share of the lead.
