    T Finau -3 (9)

Turns out dislocating your ankle isn't the worst preparation for a Masters tournament after all. Tony Finau is a shot off the lead!

The American probably didn't sleep too well last night, shuffling in pain in bed and popping anti-inflammatory tablets to reduce the swelling, after damaging it while celebrating a hole-in-one during the par-three competition.

It's not affecting him though. After wiping out an opening bogey with a birdie on 2, he's sunk two more birdies on 8 and 9 to go into the turn a shot off the lead.

That's the first time in the entire history of the Masters that anyone has taken 13 shots at the par-five 15th.

    Here comes Tommy...

Looking down the slope, the Southport man only has to tickle his putter to get the ball galloping towards the flag from more than 20 feet. It identifies the target, and is swallowed up by the cup for a third successive birdie.

He's actually carded four birdies in the last five holes - a bogey at the 14th the only blemish.

Sergio Garcia named his daughter Azalea this year, following his success at the Masters last year. The Spaniard scrambled to save par on the 13th - named Azalea - in last year's final round, you will remember.

Doubt his next child will be named Firethorn after that debacle on the 15th...

Sergio on the par-three 16th. He hits it beyond the hole and it's rolling back down the hill towards the side of the hole. This is sympathetic applause we can hear for Sergio. He looks rattled.

Sergio Garcia is not the only player to hit a 13 in Masters history. The last time there was a 13 was Tom Weiskopf in 1980 on the par-three 12th.

Finally Sergio Garcia has escaped the time loop. The defending champion finally gets his ball to stick to the 15th green, walking off with a 13 (thirteen) on his card. That's the worst score on a hole at Augusta since 1980 and the worst score on the par-five 15th EVER.

Oh, hello! Charley Hoffman leaps to the front of the pack with a wonderfully weighted birdie from a staggering 35 feet. It started well wide of the hole, before curling its way back to the pin. Brilliant.

And that's three on the bounce for the American. He leads the Masters by a stroke.

  11. Garcia five balls in water on 15published at 20:18 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    John Murray
    BBC Radio 5 live

"Sergio Garcia has gone in the water three times on the 15th hole. I don't believe it. It's like history is repeating itself. He keeps chipping on and spinning the ball back into the water.

"This is Garcia's eighth shot. Don't tell me he's going to do it again. Oh my goodness he's doing it again. Have we ever seen the like at the 15th at the Masters?

"He's hitting a flatter shot. But it's spinning again. I can't believe my eyes. It has all gone horribly wrong at the 15th. The patrons sense he needs support and he touches his cap to them.

"His 12th shot is considerably past the hole and it spins back but it stays on the green!"

First slip of the day for Jordan Spieth, who three putts on the par 4 fifth. Over to Rory up ahead... he's got the jitters with the short stick as well. McIlroy slides his putt down the right and that's a huge chance gone.

Tiger Woods looked like he was struggling a few holes ago, all of a sudden the four-time Masters champion is dragging himself back into the mix.

And it's a mammoth 22-foot birdie putt from the American! Straight as you like, it doesn't waver an inch and drops into the cup at speed.

Tommy Fleetwood tackles the par-three 16th with equal aplomb, but from half the distance. It kisses the cup, and drops for a second successive birdie. Lovely stuff.

Rory on the sixth... tough pin position at the back of the 180-yard par three. Only two birdies here so far today... but McIlroy is in the mixer for a third.

The Northern Irishman is being true to his word, playing aggressively from the start, and has a putt which is about the same distance as an average British male's height. That's six foot.

  15. Three-way tie for leadpublished at 20:11 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    H Stenson -3 (14), C Hoffman -3, A Hadwin -3 (13)

No one wants to hold on to the Masters lead... moments after Marc Leishman dramatically let his grip on the top of the leaderboard slip, new frontrunner Henrik Stenson bogeys the 14th to drop into a three-way tie with Charley Hoffman and Adam Hadwin.

The Swede ended up three-putting the 14th green there. Nightmare.

Just behind Henrik Stenson, and now ahead of Marc Leishman, are Charley Hoffman and Adam Hadwin.

Hoffman has previous here of course, defying blustery conditions last year to card a seven-under-par 65 on day one.

The 41-year-old American sinks successive birdies on 12 and 13 to move within one of Stenson, while Hadwin also gets a two on Golden Bell - his third birdie in four holes.

  17. Fleetwood birdies, Leishman loses leadpublished at 20:06 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    M Leishman -2, T Fleetwood +1, T Woods +2 (15)

Eagle chance for Tommy Fleetwood, the first of the day... No. The Englishman rolls it narrowly wide of the cup, but taps in for birdie.

Marc Leishman finally finds the hole after dabbling with the water, but he's down for a double bogey that wipes out the Australian's lead.

  18. Stenson takes share of the leadpublished at 20:03 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    H Stenson -4 (13)

What constitutes the perfect birthday? A meal at a swanky restaurant followed by a trip to the cinema maybe. Or a day out in the countryside with a loved one, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Or... a share of the Masters lead.

Henrik Stenson, who is celebrating his 42nd birthday today, is doing the latter. The Swede reaches the par 5 13th green in two, takes two putts and moves alongside Marc Leishman.

Looks like he's going to be out on his own in a moment or two...

    M Leishman -4, T Fleetwood +2, T Woods +2 (14)

Marc Leishman pops his tee shot into the heart of the fairway, but slightly overcooks his approach and finds himself 30-odd yards beyond the pin. He opts for an open chip and run... it's running, running and finds the water! Nightmare for the leader.

Tiger Woods finds the 17th fairway... from the 15th tee. Or as good as, he'll have to recover from beneath the trees again, and crisscrosses the course to leave himself a 20-foot birdie putt.

No such problem for Tommy Fleetwood, the Southport man is on the green in two.
