  2. Fleetwood 'really happy with solid start'published at 21:15 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    T Fleetwood E (18)

England's Tommy Fleetwood after a level-par 72 in his opening round: "Pretty good solid start, the back nine ended up being quite up and down. Overall I was really happy.

"I didn't quite have my full game and I'd not holed a putt until 16 and 17 so I was happy to see those go in."

On playing with Tiger Woods: "It was cool. He's such a good person to play with. He gets on with his game, he's not worried about anyone else, plays at a good pace, there are a lot of fans, it's a good atmosphere. I'd love to do it more."

On whether his expectations are higher this year: "After last year I got caught out preparation wise and I struggled in and around the greens. I feel better prepared, but expectation wise, not massively.

"Once you put on expectation everything gets more difficult. I just want to go out and play one hole at a time. And on this course you can only do that. You can't get ahead of yourself.

"We'll see where we are on Sunday, hopefully high up, and we'll go from there."

  3. Eagle for Spiethpublished at 21:14 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    J Spieth -2 (8)

Jordan Spieth, take a bow. An eagle at the eighth for the 2015 champion as he finds the green in two and then sinks a 14-foot putt.

A wry simile from the 24-year-old, and why not. He moves to two under.

Rory's back in the red. Straight after dropping a shot on the seventh, McIlroy makes amends with a birdie on the eighth.

He's just shy of the green on the 570-yard par five, dinking a delicate chip within four feet and letting his putter take care of the rest.

World number three Jon Rahm matches McIlroy, again, while 2013 champion Adam Scott continues his flawless run of pars.

Four-time champion Tiger Woods on carding an opening round 73: "I played well. I made a few mistakes here and there, I didn't take care of the par fives - not very good.

"The wind was dancing a little bit, puffing out of the east then coming out of the south. It was a big change."

On his Masters return: "It feels great to be back, it's been a while. I was looking forward to grinding it out and I made a little comeback on the back nine to get myself back into this tournament."

On the warm reception from the Augusta patrons: "Oh my god it was incredible. The people were into it, even on the range where I got a couple of standing ovations.

"The way everyone has been to be so warm over my fight to come back, I'm at a loss to words for most of the time. I'm grateful to be back playing."

Mickelson's fellow American Jordan Speith has endured just as topsy turvy an opening at Augusta - having gone birdie-birdie through three and four only to drop shots at the fifth and sixth.
