Rory McIlroy has another birdie putt, this time on the fourth. The Northern Irishman gives a 20-footer a good welly up the slope, gradient overpowering speed and leaving McIlroy with a simple tap-in for a third successive par.

Threes all round as neither Adam Scott nor Jon Rahm are able to take some of the twos sweep.

  2. Spieth birdiespublished at 19:51 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    J Spieth -2, A Noren +2, L Oosthuizen +1 (3)

Jordan Spieth is off to a flyer. The 2015 champion has taken to Augusta like a duck to water - finishing T2-1-T2-T11 on his four appearances at Augusta.

He already seems to knows this course better than a steward who has been working there for 40-odd years.

His approach shots on both two and three are perfect, leaving the man with the golden putter with the simplest of conversions.

  4. Birdie for Tiger!published at 19:47 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    M Leishman -3, T Woods +2, T Fleetwood +2 (14)

Tiger Woods is making a comeback.... sort of, he's scrambled a birdie at 14 to scratch out one of those dropped shots around Amen Corner with a seven foot putt.

Tidy stuff from Marc Leishman too. His best finish at Augusta was tied fourth in 2013, but he's failed to finish inside the top 40 since.

But the 34-year-old currently leads the Masters on the opening day and almost extends his advantage to two shots, but his birdie putt doesn't quite drop.

Leishman settles for par, but Tommy Fleetwood's up and down round has taken another turn as he drops a shot.

  5. Ellis shoots 86 on Masters debutpublished at 19:41 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

Amateur champion Harry Ellis was making his Masters debut today. The 22-year-old from Southampton celebrated with a birdie on the par-five eighth. Sadly for him that was the solitary highlight in a 14-over-par 86 that featured six bogeys, three doubles and a triple.

The triple came at the par-four 10th after he appeared to have a penalty imposed upon him after finding the middle of the fairway with his tee shot. More on that when we get it.

He currently props up the leaderboard, five adrift of next worst, fellow amateur Matt Parziale of the United States.

    A Scott E, R McIlroy -1, J Rahm E (3)

Rory McIlroy is still in the red. After a birdie on the first, he's followed it with a couple of pars. Pars have been the course for Adam Scott on the first three. He who owns something Rors doesn't of course - a Green Jacket hanging up in the wardrobe. Jon Rahm, the third of this distinguished trio, is also level after wiping that opening bogey with a birdie on the second.

    P Reed E, C Hoffman -1, A Hadwin -2 (10)

Canada's Adam Hadwin acquitted himself pretty well on his Masters debut last year with a tied 36th finish. Can he improve on that this year?

He's been picking the brains of the only Canadian to win the Green Jacket - Mike Weir, of course - and it seems to have been productive.

Back-to-back birdies around the turn propel him up the leaderboard and he has a chance for another on the 11th...

Bubba doesn't mess about does he? He marches up to his ball, barely takes a glance at what's in front of him and then addresses the ball. Well, he knows this place better than most.

Ah, He's overcooked it. Not enough sand, leaving Bubba chuntering and gesticulating. A long putt back for par narrowly misses and that's another shot dropped for the 2012 and 2014 champion.

  10. Leishman retakes leadpublished at 19:27 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    M Leishman -4, T Fleetwood +1, T Woods +3 (13)

Marc Leishman retakes the outright lead. Cool, calm, collected - the Australian is making this look easy. A fourth birdie of the day takes him to four under par.

Tommy Fleetwood's got the look of a Game of Thrones character. Long hair, scruffy beard, swinging an iron around... he's got the read of the 13th green, rolling one from long range right up to the cup to tap in for birdie of his own.

Can Tiger Woods follow suit? He has also scrambled back for a birdie chance, but the American can't convert.

Bubba Watson on the 12th tee... a steady swipe of a short iron leaves the two-time champion looking nervous. Like a few before him, he's short and eating sand.

  12. Birdie for Stenson...published at 19:20 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    Stenson -3 (11)

...and that gives the Swede a share of the lead!

Tidy stuff from Henrik Stenson as he's up and down in three at the par-four 11th to go three under par alongside Australian Marc Leishman.

Tiger Woods is struggling with Amen Corner. He's found the patrons again at 13 - to you and I, that's the spectators sitting besides the fairway.

Marc Leishman gives himself an outside chance of an eagle. A lot of work to do, but in this form...

  15. Past champions strugglingpublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

Ian Woosnam, Masters champion way back in 1991, was one of the first out the traps this morning. He's just finished his round for the day. Five bogeys and one double bogey for the 60-year-old who signs for a seven-over 79.

Another past champion, 2003 winner Mike Weir, bogeys the last for a four-over-par 76.

Jose Maria Olazabal, champion in 1994 and 1999, is also home, bogeying the final two holes to finish on two over.

Justin Thomas, the king of preppy golfing attire, is chugging along steadily. Two birdies, two bogeys, level par as he approaches Amen Corner.

Now here's another birdie chance. Twenty-two foot out, left to right, here it goes... eyes are fixed on ball, he thinks this is good... it's turned.

Thomas, dressed in slim white slacks and sleeveless navy jumper if you're interested in that sort of thing, bends his knees and raises his putter to the Augusta sky. That shows how disappointed he is.

    Iain Carter
BBC Sport commentator at Augusta National

What he has to do is make sure this round doesn't unravel, that he doesn't press too hard on the par-five 13th and 15th holes because there is the danger that Woods, after all the hype could play himself out the Masters.

    M Leishman -3, T Fleetwood +2, T Woods +3 (12)

Marc Leishman snags another par from close range after another outside birdie attempt that flirts unsuccessfully with the hole. Tommy Fleetwood follows with a par.

Applause for Tiger Woods as he finally makes it across the bridge. The four-time champion steps up, and sinks his bogey putt from the fringes! Impressive, despite being a second successive bogey.

  19. Postpublished at 19:06 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    M Leishman -3, T Woods +2, T Fleetwood +2 (11)

So, what does Tiger do here? The American is weighing up where to take his drop from. Chop chop... Woods paces back some 80 yards, then begins walking forward again. Finally he leaves it only a few yards back from where his ball entered the water.

A little chip over the wet stuff, it only just catches the summit of the greenside bank and leaves the 42-year-old a putt from just off the green to make bogey.
