BBC Sport revisits Rory McIlroy's stunning eagle chip on the eighth hole to move into contention on nine under par on day three of the 2018 Masters at Augusta.

Patrick Reed has absolutely mullered the par fives. It was a special day for him. He's just had the game completely under control.

Although he has a nice lead, those early holes are going to be so important.

Patrick Reed has carded rounds of 69, 66, 67 this week at Augusta.

No one has ever shot four rounds under 70 at one Masters tournament.

He can't, can he?

It's going to be a great duel tomorrow.

There are a few more players than Rory and Patrick Reed, so Rory needs to play his own game and if he can then he has a great chance of buttoning up that Green Jacket.

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy on his final-day pairing with leader Patrick Reed: "There are still a few more players in this tournament than Patrick Reed and I. I think there's Rickie Fowler on nine, Jon Rahm on eight, there are still a few guys who have got a chance.

"I told myself not to look too much at the leaderboard and I didn't. It worked in my favour. I'm going to set myself a target tomorrow and try to get to it."

On the 2011 Masters where he threw away a four-shot lead in the final round: "I'm a much more experienced person and player than I was when I had my previous best chance in 2011.

"I learned a lot that day and everything I did learn I hope to put into practice tomorrow."

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy on his joint-best round of 65 at Augusta: "I loved it. I loved every minute of it. It's the best round I've ever played here. It was bogey free, I didn't really put a foot wrong and when I did I took advantage of a bit of luck I had, or got an up or down, or made a key putt.

"It was a great round of golf, I'm proud of how I handled it out there. Now there is one day to go and I hope I can continue doing what I've been doing."

It was a fantastic, professional round from Rory McIlroy. He didn't make any silly mistakes and when he did he got up and down.

That's been the key to his success. He's in a very good place mentally.

Another startling stat for all you McIlroy fans out there: today's seven-under 65 has matched his lowest round at the Masters.

That, of course, came in his opening round at the 2011 tournament. The hair was a little longer, the cheeks a little chubbier, the body a little less sculpted... and the mind not as focused as he went on to capitulate.

Less chance of that happening tomorrow one would suggest...

Lovely chip and run from Marc Leishman up towards the pin, he's keen to impress in front of the newly acquainted Reed faithful that are following the leader.

Reed himself is 10 feet from the pin. He circles his ball, and the flag, holds his putter in the air to draw a line and then sways his shoulders back and forth.

It's running, right on line... it breaks left, and that sees it narrowly miss its target. Reed's birdie putt stays up, but the Texan taps in for par and signs for a 67.

He takes a three-shot lead into the final round of the Masters.

Patrick Reed runs through his practice swing several times before approaching the ball and whipping it green-bound.

That's some shot. It catches the bank of the bunker and bounces directly towards the flag to leave the American with a birdie chance you wouldn't bank against him taking.

Not sure how confident I would feel as one of the patrons standing a few feet to the left of Marc Leishman's route out of the trees.

They're not allowing for much room for error.

The Australian's spotted a hole in the bush... and found it! What a strike. A spot of crazy golf from Leishman, and it trundles up to the fringes.

Don't just take our word that Rory McIlroy was holing out more than the Polo mint factory. The stats show it's true as McIlroy has the lowest putting average of the day.

He only needed 23 putts - an average of 1.28 - even below that of joint second-best Rickie Fowler and Jon Rahm (1.44).

American Rickie Fowler is right in the hunt after a bogey-free seven-under 65 took him to nine under.

He told BBC Sport: "I had fun with both my caddie and Louis Oosthuizen and his caddie. We had some good moments where we were hitting good shots and feeding off each other.

"I've just got to keep doing what I'm doing. I'm going to need the putter to be my friend tomorrow. I don't know how low I need to go but I need to start solid and give myself a chance on the back nine."

Reed was almost stomping up the fairway before he'd finished his drive there. Such is the confidence of the American, teeing up on the far right of the box and cutting it through the trees to find the 18th fairway.

A well-placed 270 yards.

Not sure what's happened to Marc Leishman, mind. He looks like he's playing out of someone's garden shed... there'll be an angry greenkeeper chasing him off if he doesn't hurry.
