    J Spieth -11 (12)

Jordan Spieth carded a 66 on Thursday and we were all speculating whether he was going to run away with the Green Jacket.

The American followed up with a double bogey-bogey on his first two holes on Friday to enter the weekend at four under.

He began today five under, but has posted six birdies without a single blemish through the opening 12.

He's pulled his tee shot towards the trees on 13...

Patrick Reed winces like you or I do when having a teeth pulled out. His pain is caused by an gammy second shot, after pushing his drive towards the trees on the right of the fairway, which scurries past the ninth green.

Meanwhile, his playing partner McIlroy launches his second shot to within nine feet. McIlroy's putting has not been so hot today but he needs this one...

  6. Birdie, birdie for Fowlerpublished at 21:40 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    J Rahm -10 (9), R Fowler -10 (9)

Rickie Fowler is still hanging around the leaders, refusing to go away.

The American follows up a birdie at the eighth with a four-foot birdie putt at the ninth to move to 10 under.

  7. Birdie for Spiethpublished at 21:38 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    J Spieth -11 (12)

    Here comes Jordan Spieth!

    What. A. Putt.

The American is nestled out on the fringes of the 12th green, but that doesn't faze him - Spieth rolls a tasty putt right into the cup at speed from nine yards.

    Game on.

  8. Hoffman holes in onepublished at 21:36 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    C Hoffman -6 (16)

A brilliant reaction from Hoffman who is running around, high-fiving the patrons, his white teeth flashing. The 20th hole in one and the 16th in Masters history. It takes him to six under par. He hit it over the bunker and it ran straight in the hole.

The irony is his playing partner is Tony Finau, who dislocated his ankle while celebrating a hole in one during the par-three contest on Wednesday.

This hole is best known for its green that slopes from back to front. Players often drive down the right side to avoid having to contend with two left greenside bunkers on their second shots.

The original ninth green had a more extreme "false front" than the current green has. Shots landing there invariably rolled back down the fairway.

Rory McIlroy is looking more untidy than his barnet back in 2011. On to the ninth, a steady old ship which he has parred on each of the past three days.

Jordan Spieth decides the nine iron will be his weapon of choice to take on the dreaded 12th - his Augusta nemesis.

    Anything but Rae's Creek...

The American sends his tee shot left but watches it come to a halt on fringes around the far bank of the green, and reaches his arms into the air in celebration!

    P Reed -14, R McIlroy -10 (8)

    Andrew Cotter

McIlroy is just looking a bit ragged, a bit loose, understandable given the tension. He's come so close to Reed but just falls away again, he's not putting enough pressure on him.

2003 US PGA Championship winner, BBC Radio 5 live

It's only one shot in the scheme of things but it's way bigger than that. It's winning and losing a Green Jacket.

  14. Bogey for McIlroypublished at 21:32 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    P Reed -14, R McIlroy -10 (7)

McIlroy canned a similar chip from here yesterday for an eagle. Can he rewind the tape and give us a replay? He goes for it... ball needs to hit the pin here... it's raced past.

Chance for Reed to go four clear... goes right, stays right.

McIlroy can still let him stretch his lead though, he's pushed his par putt past.

Reed four clear, with McIlroy dragged back into the pack by Spieth and Rahm.

    J Spieth -10 (11)

Jordan Spieth is furious that his birdie putt at 11 hasn't dropped. He's pointing at the green, questioning why he didn't quite read it right. You almost feel he's blaming the green itself for not helping his ball into the cup...

Anyway, the American makes par to stay at 10 under - four strokes behind leader Patrick Reed.

    P Reed -14, R McIlroy -11 (7)

McIlroy stands below an incline on the eighth that might be classed as a small mountain in the Peak District. No view of the green, but a good idea of where he wants to go. A 208-yard approach holds its line on the right, little applause tells the Northern Irishman that he isn't on the dancefloor.

Reed, however, is. Another beauty from the leader who is seven feet or so from a third birdie of the day.

  17. Bogey, bogey finish for Caseypublished at 21:26 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    P Casey -5

A couple of unwanted bogeys for Paul Casey to finish, but a fantastic round nonetheless from the Englishman.

The course record of 63 slips away, but Casey signs for 65 after a birdie streak on the back nine that also welcomed an eagle and saw him soar through Amen Corner in just eight strokes.

Reed and McIlroy have not made some score on any hole. They are both still swinging punches.

  20. Birdie for Fowlerpublished at 21:22 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    J Rahm -10 (9), R Fowler -9 (9)

Jon Rahm has an avenue of pine trees directing him towards the eighth green.

The Spaniard coaxes it flag-bound, but it doesn't quite have the energy to make it beyond a bobbly bank protecting the green.

In a spot of trouble, the youngster. Cue soft Spanish hands, and Rahm's delicate chip leaves him with a follow up putt that saves par.

Rickie Fowler doesn't know what all the fuss is about. He strides up for a birdie.
