    J Spieth -13 (15)

Jordan Spieth draws one beyond the water at the par-three 16th.

It sits on the fringes, a long way from home, but you wouldn't rule out another birdie from the American.

    R Fowler -12 (13), J Rahm -11 (13),

Jon Rahm is holding his nerve as the Augusta afternoon ticks by. He's still in the mix, just. The Spaniard casually grasps his putter and nonchalantly knocks in for birdie. Finally, a sigh of relief from the 23-year-old.

Rickie Fowler is doing his bit to make Sunday interesting, too. He pops on from the fringes to within nine feet and then rattles in a birdie putt of his own.

The 13th tee offers a rare moment of solitude for Masters hopefuls, on the furthest part of the course from the patrons. The 510-yard par five is the final hole of Amen Corner - but, unlike its unforgiving predecessors, offers a good eagle chance.

An accurate tee shot to the centre of the fairway on this sweeping dogleg left allows a player to go for the green in two. A tributary to Rae's Creek winds in front of the raised green, and four bunkers threaten behind.

    P Reed -14, R McIlroy -9 (12)

Patrick Reed roars a throat-hurting 'Come on!!' on the 12th green before marching off to the 13th tee. He'll fancy his chances of extending his lead here. Birdie, birdie, eagle so far this week for the leader...

Spieth points at his caddie. There's a couple of clenched fists. He looks at the scoreboard, which has not been updated with Reed's birdie at 12, so as far as he's concerned, he's tied for the lead.

He's just walking around the side of the stand that we are in and he is soaking up the adulation from around the 16th tee.

They have just altered the scoreboard and there was a gasp. They don't seem to like Reed.

  8. Birdie for Spiethpublished at 22:24 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    J Spieth -13 (15)

A good, long look at this birdie putt for Jordan Spieth. He knows how quick this green can be after that monster eagle attempt.

Spieth takes one last look at the hole, fixes his eyes firmly on his ball and then drains it right into the heart of the cup for a fist pump-worthy birdie.

    The Augusta patrons love it.

  9. Birdie for Reedpublished at 22:23 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    P Reed -14, R McIlroy -9 (11)

Not happening with the putter for McIlroy today. He can't hole his birdie putt on 12, he's up to an average of 1.64 today Yesterday it was 1.28.

Reed's short stick is poker hot though. Another one putt for our leader, who is averaging 1.36 putts today, to extend his advantage over Spieth to two shots. For now...

    J Spieth -12 (14)

How quick is that 15th green... Jordan Spieth just breathes on his ball and watches it gather pace down the slope.

It gently squirms forward, the American uses all his mind tricks to try and help it on a few more rotations, and then it stops some six feet from glory - an eagle putt there would have propelled Spieth into the lead.

    Birdie putt to come.

Our final pairing are the only players in the top 15 who are being beaten by Augusta today. Both are over par for the day, but have birdie putts on 12...

One of the world's most famous golf holes, this is Augusta National's shortest par three. Club selection is often difficult, as varying winds can require anything from a six-iron to a nine-iron for Masters competitors.

The daunting presence of Rae's Creek and three strategically placed bunkers make it imperative that players land their shots on the putting surface. Golfers walk across the iconic Ben Hogan Bridge to reach the green.

The 12th hole has been a heartbreaker from the start. Its fickle winds, narrow green and looming water have thwarted many runs for the Masters title.

Patrick Reed for his par on 11... he's lipped out! Groans of disbelief from the gallery. It looks like it'll drop from the left, but the pace keeps it out. The heat on his neck from Spieth just got a little hotter.

McIlroy misses another five-footer, he's sliding down another snake. On to the 12th...

    R Fowler -11 (12)

Rickie Fowler has just whipped his driver round the corner of the dog leg at 13 like a David Beckham free-kick.

    He's in the game.

  17. Birdie for Fowlerpublished at 22:12 British Summer Time 8 April 2018

    R Fowler -11 (12)

What Jon Rahm fails to do, Rickie Fowler pops away with aplomb.

The American's tee shot at 12 leaves him with nine feet to make birdie, and he confidently rolls it in to move to 11 under par.

    P Casey -5 (18)

England's Paul Casey is asked to describe his feelings after dropping two late shots for a 65: "Mixed, if someone had offered me a 65 starting today it would have been hard to turn down. But it was a great weekend. Frustrated I didn't play like that on Thursday and Friday but I love this place and it's a treat to be able to play here."

You lucky boy Patrick Reed. The golfing gods get the branches on the right of the 11th fairway to push his ball back into play, allowing him to punch out to the left and then lob a delightful chip within a puttable distance.

McIlroy gets the jeepers slightly with his approach, pushing it right of the green as he makes sure the water on the left doesn't come into play.

    J Rahm -10 (12)

Jon Rahm's got his head in his hands. His birdie putt at 12 doesn't find the turn it needs and another chance goes begging for the Spaniard.

    Still four off the pace...
