  1. Birdie for Woodspublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    T Woods -7, F Molinari -6 (6)

"Get in!" the crowd shout. The ball responds. In it goes. Tiger Woods takes third outright with a birdie.

What did Jordan Spieth say about it being a "dream" to go head-to-head against Tiger at a major on a Sunday? Well it's happening...

  2. Work to do for leaderspublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    J Spieth -9, X Schauffele -9 (4)

High-fives for a few youngsters with the leaders as they make their way to the fifth.

Jockie's Burn cross the fairway at 300 yards and just before it are two bunkers, one of which Jordan Spieth finds. He thumps out some 25 yards or so up field.

This green has more tiers than my wedding cake, Spieth clips on to the top one, but Xander Schauffele plugs his off target.

Work to do for the leaders.

Fleetwood’s latest dropped shot at the seventh was a costly one. “Ach,” says a passing Scotsman. “That’s my two pound gone”.

A lot better received is the Kuchar birdie in the group behind. Back to where he began the day for last year’s runner-up. Much Kooching all round. And polite applause for Rory’s par!

  4. Eagle for Tiger?published at 15:49 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    T Woods -6, F Molinari -6 (5)

    Tiger Woods for eagle...

It goes and goes. The crowd gets louder and louder as the ball gets closer and closer. Ooooh. It stays up and goes five feet past. He'll have that for birdie.

More noise in the Carnoustie library than there is for the leading two. Nothing continues to happen. Very, very quiet out here.

  6. 'Winning was never on my mind'published at 15:45 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    E Pepperell -5 (F)

Eddie Pepperell, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "It was stressful, but enjoyable playing with Phil Mickelson. That was a real treat.

"After being three under after six it became clear I had the opportunity to put a good score together.

"Winning was never on my mind, but I have posted a reasonable score.

"Winning is not on my mind now, but stranger things have happened."

Veteran Bernhard Langer signs off a superb week with a level-par final round of 71.

The 60-year-old German stays at one-under par for the Open Championship and is on course for a top-25 finish.

Steady away with two birdies and two bogeys.

Langer is only playing this week having won last year's Senior Open and has gone further this week than the two players in the world to name a few.

    T Woods -6, F Molinari -6 (5)

This is the Tiger of old. He hits his shot from the fairway and jogs out to the left with his club still in the air to see the ball land. It's spine-tingling to watch.

The wind batters Tiger's ball in the air but it comes to rest just a yard from the front of the green. An eagle is unlikely but a birdie is do-able.

  9. McIlroy in troublepublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    R McIlroy -3, M Kuchar -4 (6)

Rory McIlroy drives his tee shot at the seventh way right towards some undergrowth and has spectators scrambling after his ball like it's the Pied Piper and they're, err...

He could be in a spot of bother out there.

  10. Fleetwood drops another shotpublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    T Fleetwood -2 (7)

Anyone with Tommy Fleetwood's name scrawled on their betting slip? Tear it up. The world number 10 is going backwards quicker than a VHS on rewind x2.

After plenty of birdie chances early doors, he is scrabbling to save par on the seventh... missed it.

That's four shots gone in three holes for the Englishman - and his chance of a first major.

  11. Pars for the leaderspublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    J Spieth -9, X Schauffele -9 (4)

"Ahh, sit," Jordan Spieth speaks to his ball more than some people do their family. It's found the green, but this dancefloor is bigger than most uni club nights - minus the sticky floors and plastic pint glasses.

A birdie putt from way out for the defending champion, as he tickles it in to within several feet of the cup. Down a gentle slope, in it goes for a fourth par on the bounce.

Xander Schauffele takes a similar approach. Another three-footer for the American, straight into the middle of the dropzone.

Tiger Woods has nailed his drive on the par-five sixth. He has a chance to find the green in two and set up a putt for eagle.

    Molinari meanwhile finds the bunker.

Level-par round of 71 for former champion Phil Mickelson, who was playing alongside Eddie Pepperell today.

The 2013 champion adds to round of 73, 69 and 70 to remain at one under for the Championship.

  14. Pars for Woods & Molinaripublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    T Woods -6, F Molinari -6 (5)

Francesco Molinari is looking very solid today. If the two leaders falter he may be the one to jump into the limelight. He makes another good par on the fifth and his playing partner Tiger Woods does the same.

  16. Pepperell leads in the clubhousepublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    E Pepperell -5 (18)

Eddie Pepperell was supposed to be part of our 5 live commentary team this weekend - but had to put that on hold after earning a late place in the field.

He's taken full advantage with solid rounds of 71, 70 and 71 being bettered by a 67 which has lifted him into seventh place and the clubhouse lead.

I suspect he's enjoying himself more with a club in his hand rather than a microphone.

It’s a long slog up the par-five 6th today into the teeth of the wind. Kuchar and McIlroy both make hard work of it. But both make par. Usual celebrations all round.

“I love you Rory,” comes one plaintive cry from a woman old enough to be his mother

  18. Par for McIlroypublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    R McIlroy -3, M Kuchar -4 (6)

Rory finally nails one! But it comes after he's struggled down the par-five sixth. A superb par-saver from out on the fringes to remain at three under.

  19. 'That's a Tiger roar'published at 15:32 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at Carnoustie

Over on the adjoining sixth fairway, the roar for the first Tiger birdie of the day was a show stopper for Fleetwood, Johnson and the watching galleries. There are roars and there are Tiger roars. Nobody knew for sure what happened. But people turned to one another and just knowingly murmured ‘That’s Tiger’.

Ryan W: The wind will ensure no one comes out the pack today it’s a two horse shoot-out.

Andrew Priestley: Rory McIlroy needs to make the brave decision of getting rid of his best-friend caddie after this tournament and replace him with a seasoned-professional. Why he ever got rid of JP Fitzgerald in the first place, I’ll never know.

Danny Ryan: Can’t see anyone beating Jordan Spieth today, unless he either has another 2016 Masters collapse or a Jean val de Velde moment.
