  1. Pars for the joint leaderspublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    J Spieth -9, X Schauffele -9 (2)

Hang about, fair whack that from Xander Schauffele with the putter and it almost shuffles its way up to the cup. Just short, but a decent crack from the Californian.

Defending champion Jordan Spieth's had a good look at it. Stripey claret and blue top, like a Liquorice Allsort, his putt isn't quite sweet enough and pulls up short.

    Par-par for the joint leaders.

  2. 'McIlroy out of sorts'published at 15:13 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    R McIlroy -3 (5)

    Mel Reid
European Solheim Cup player at Carnoustie for BBC Radio 5 live

Rory McIlroy is getting so frustrated as his wedges are not following on from his good drives. He just seems a little out of sorts.

  3. Bogey for McIlroypublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    R McIlroy -3, M Kuchar -4 (5)

Hand over his mouth in disbelief, Rory McIlroy cannot believe that hasn't dropped - he was already strutting after his par putt at the fifth, but it lipped out and stayed up. Bogey.

Matt Kuchar is back up and running. His first birdie of the day.

  4. More trouble for Kisnerpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    K Kisner -7, K Chappell -6 (2)

Kevin Kisner has now putt his tee shot on three into some long rough after getting a double bogey a moment ago.

It's probably because I backed him for the win in our desk predictions before play.

  5. Par for Woodspublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    T Woods -5, F Molinari -6 (3)

Tiger looks suspiciously down at the putting surface. His ball took a little hop early on and that knocks it off line. He makes the par putt. Again Molinari does the same.

This is the lengths to which they go to get things done right at The Open. Gareth (that very rare breed, a Liverpool fan from Manchester) even polishes the plinth on which the gleaming silver Claret Jug will spend the rest of the afternoon prior to it being presented (subject to extra time) at teatime tonight.

  7. Postpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    J Spieth -9, X Schauffele -9 (1)

Decent carry for Jordan Spieth on the second, out-hitting Braid's bunker and coming to a rest on the side of the fairway.

Xander Schauffele is in a wispy patch out left, clipping it on to the front of the green but it's a long, long way up to the flag from there. A marathon two-putt.

Spieth's got a great look at the flag, but he pops his left and short.

  8. Double bogey for Kisnerpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    K Kisner -7, K Chappell -6 (2)

Kisner now with his fifth on the par four second... He has indeed got a wedge in-hand, chipping from the edge of the putting surface.

Almost! The American's chip rattles the flag. He very nearly restricts the damage to just a bogey but it will be a double.

Kisner loses his share of the lead.

  9. Bogey for Fleetwood & Rosepublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    T Fleetwood -5 (5)

Tommy Fleetwood rushes a birdie putt wide on the fifth. Coming back at it the other way, and he fizzes another off target!

He's furious, even those luscious locks are frowning as he waves an arm in the air.

Bogey for the Southport man, which follows shortly after a bogey for Justin Rose on the same hole moments earlier.

Muted start to the day for Game 36 after the matching bogeys at the second for Rory and Kuchar, following the American’s failure to compete what would have been a great recovery from the burn at the third by missing his five-foot putt.

But it hasn’t stopped the crowd getting involved. There’s now lots of proper Kooching, interspersed with all the "Come On Rorys" and the "Come On Tommys" on the adjoining fairway.

Joaquim Phoenix lookalike Zach Johnson, Fleetwood’s playing partner, is not getting a whole lot of love by comparison. But at least his 15-foot putt for par at the third was well acclaimed!

  11. Postpublished at 15:01 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    T Woods -5, F Molinari -6 (2)

No such trouble for Tiger Woods and Francesco Molinari. They're both on the green at the third.

  12. Kisner calamity on the secondpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    K Kisner -9, K Chappell -6 (1)

Kisner gets out of the bunker at the second attempt but can't do any better than move the ball a few feet in front. It doesn't find the fairway and instead nestles into more long grass.

He skips the ball onto the front edge of the green but it keeps rolling into the rough at the back of the putting surface.

Kisner may well be chipping next and he's already played four shots on the par four.

  13. Kisner in trouble in bunkerpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    K Kisner -9, K Chappell -6 (1)

Car-nasty bites and bites hard. Co-leader Kevin Kisner is in big trouble.

He's found a bunker off the tee on the second.

The American has the steep front wall of the bunker facing him and his chip out hits it. The ball doesn't leave the sand and actually nestles right up against the bunker wall.

  14. 'This course is a different animal'published at 14:58 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    J Spieth -9 (1)

    Oliver Wilson
Former Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 live

This course is a different animal to what we have seen all week. You will have to control your ball flight and it is playing into Jordan Spieth's hands.

  15. Waiting for the last grouppublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

My new Scottish friend delighted that two ‘Kevins’ are coming through now. Great gusto with his support for both, camera out on his phone as they walk a few feet away on their way to the second tee. “How much longer do we have to sit here?” Robert asks of his mates. One more group. And here they come...

  16. Pars for Spieth & Schauffelepublished at 14:57 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    J Spieth -9, X Schauffele -9 (1)

Uphill, right to left for Schauffele, he never catches the line.

Jordan Spieth is the man these fans are waiting on, though... puttable birdie chance, hmm, he grimaces, it doesn't find the cup.

A pair of opening pars for the final group.

  18. Par for Woodspublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    T Woods -5, F Molinari -6 (2)

The wind grabs at Tiger Woods' trousers as he putts for par but the American makes it. A very solid start from Tiger and the same for his playing partner Molinari.

  19. Par for McIlroypublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    R McIlroy -4, M Kuchar -3 (4)

Not dropping so far for Rory McIlroy. The 2014 champion gives himself a birdie chance at four, but rolls it just left and it stays up. He prods in for another par.

You can see Tommy Fleetwood has grown up on links-type courses. He hits a punch-style shot with a bit of a wind swing that he has got going on.
