Tommy Fleetwood's last Sunday round at a major? 63.

    His Carnoustie course record? 63

Today? 63 will win this. Not sure it'll happen in these conditions though.

The long-haired Englishman on the short par-four third, a knock up and over Jockie's Burn... an anxious look as it pitches on the front of the green and rolls backwards. Safe.

There seems to be thousands and thousands of people following Tiger Woods. It's like a rollercoaster the way they follow the undulations of the course and the line goes on and on and is several deep.

  6. The hardest and the easiestpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 22 July 2018

    Peter Scrivener

Take a bow Kevin Chappell. The American, who is fourth, two shots of the lead on seven under, was the only player to birdie the 500-yard par-four 12th on Saturday.

Yet again, it was the toughest hole of the day, playing, on average, half a stroke over par.

The closing three holes are also continuing to prove a tough test. The hardest finishing stretch in golf have each been playing one-third of a stroke over par.

The easiest holes have been the two par fives. The 14th gave up 11 of the day's 14 eagles - one more came at the long sixth, although Rickie Fowler posted the biggest number of the day on Hogan's Alley, driving out of bounds and signing for a snowman 8.

The other two eagles came on par fours. Jordan Spieth drove the first and one-putted, while Zander Lombard followed a double-bogey on 17 by holing his approach on 18.

    They're the penultimate pairing.

On a leaderboard dominated by red, white and blue, Kevin Chappell lurks two strokes behind the frontrunners having posted continuously progressive rounds this week - 70, 69, 67... if he can improve on that again on the final day at Carnoustie, he'll surely be in the mix.

The 32-year-old's best finish at a major was tied for third at the 2011 US Open, but he enjoyed his best year as a pro in 2017 when he climbed to a career-high 23rd in the rankings and won his first PGA Tour event.

But the American has struggled for form this year until reaching Carnoustie, and partly attributes his turnaround this week to working with instructor Sean Foley, the former swing coach of Tiger Woods.

“It’s no secret I haven’t had the best year,” Chappell told Golf Week. “Really just stayed patient and kind of stayed the course. It’s nice to see some hard work showing itself here at a major championship.”

    T Woods -5, F Molinari -6

Francesco Molinari and Tiger Woods are almost side-by-side on the first fairway with the wind blowing firmly into their faces.

Molinari perhaps doesn't take that into account enough. His iron shot only finds the front of the green with the pin back right.

Tiger next... The crowd know it's good... They cheer the ball through the air and then roar when it lands around 10 feet from the hole.

Just heard my first attempted loud “Kooch” of the day as Rory ambled down the second chatting amiably with the always amiable Matt Kuchar. But it was a poor effort from clearly a novice ‘Koocher’, got badly strangled mid-Kooch and ended up sounding more like a sick heifer in labour! Needs more work!

Little chip on from Rory McIlroy, but it rushes on towards the back of the green and he'll have to fire in from around 15 feet to save par. Oh no, it trickles just wide of the cup, and he has to settle for a bogey.

Matt Kuchar is down for a par, both players a shot down this afternoon.

It is going to be crazy out here, especially in these conditions. Tiger Woods' ball did not make it above the top of the grandstands, but it moved about 25 feet to the left in the wind.

The perfect settler from Tiger Woods. With a flash of sliver he puts his iron shot down the first fairway.

Rory McIlroy takes his time on the second, needs to assess that increasing wind, especially after lofting his tee shot into some undergrowth. He doesn't look too impressed, that's gone right of the green and the Northern Irishman is in a spot of bother.

I am giddy with excitement. There's a wave of nostalgia and you see what Tiger Woods does for golf.

To have him in contention on the final day is what you want. He was so impressive, and if he's not quite back to his very best he's getting there.
