    J Furyk -14 (17)

Jim Furyk is really going for this.

He plays a bold approach into the signature hole at 17 leaving himself with a decent chance at birdie.

He starts it out right, with the ball turning in with almost every revolution but it just misses right. I thought that was going to disappear. Close but no cigar. Just a par.

That's how you play out from the sand. I think Rory McIlroy was trying to hole that. As it is he's got a par putt from a few feet.

Drama. What drama? Rory McIlroy is now in the bunker on 14th to the left of the dance floor. What sort of lie has he got?

  5. Take a deep breathpublished at 20:38 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

The ever-changing leaderboard right now... Jhonattan Vegas has just missed a very makeable birdie putt on the 18th that would have taken him alongside McIlroy on -15.

Instead he shares the clubhouse lead with Eddie Pepperell.

    Leader: Rory McIlroy, -15 (13)

-14: Eddie Pepperell (66), Jhonattan Vegas (66), Jim Furyk (16)

-13: Tommy Fleetwood (12), Brandt Snedeker (14), Jon Rahm (12)

-12: Hideki Matsuyama (67), Justin Rose (68) Brian Harman (15), Dustin Johnson (15), Jason Day (13)

Andy: Love watching the final round of a big golf tournament on a Sunday evening. Just hoping the 'Get in the hole!' mob give it a rest.

    Alex: Taxi for Rahm!

Is this man still in with a shake? You bet. A birdie on 12 puts him within two strokes of the lead.

  8. Pepperell finishes with a 66published at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    E Pepperell -14 (F)

Nice from Eddie Pepperell at 18. He takes on a tricky little wedge shot and plays it wonderfully well to run through to within a few feet of the hole.

It's so easy to catch those a little thin.

He rounds off with a par to finish with a round of 66. He's the clubhouse leader.

  9. Anything Pepperell can do...published at 20:31 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

It was going to take something special to outdo Eddie Pepperell's putt on the 17th but minutes later Jhonattan Vegas managed it.

The PGA Tour say it is the longest putt on that hole in Players Championship history...

  12. Birdie for McIlroy, leads on his ownpublished at 20:24 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    R McIlroy -15 (12)

That poor chip didn't matter. Rory McIlroy rolls in the putt for birdie to take the outright lead on 15 under.

Meanwhile, Eddie Pepperell is in a bit of bother on the 18th. He missed the fairway and is right of the green with his second.

    Eddie now one behind McIlroy.

  13. 'Astonishing' from Pepperellpublished at 20:20 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    Iain Carter
BBC Sport golf correspondent at Sawgrass

That snaking 50-footer on 17 for Eddie Pepperell is up there with the famous Tiger Woods' "better than most" putt - which was recorded on the Saturday of the 2001 Players and Martin Kaymer's effort when he won in the dark in 2014. Astonishing from a player who even yesterday said he did not feel comfortable with his game.

  14. Postpublished at 20:18 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    R McIlroy -14 (11)

Not so hot from Rory McIlroy, his chip on 12 is heavy and he's maybe 15 feet away for birdie. He wanted to be much, much closer than that. Still, a chance to grab the outright lead.

  15. Birdie for Pepperell, into share of leadpublished at 20:16 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    E Pepperell -14 (17)

    HELLO, EDDIE PEPPERELL!!!

He's got a long, long putt for birdie on the par-three 17th. Up and round and here it comes... in and into a share of the lead!

That's five birdies in seven holes for the Englishman.

Remember, this is his Players Championship debut. He's got a chance to win it.

  16. Postpublished at 20:13 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    R McIlroy -14 (11)

Rory McIlroy has a crack at the short par-four 12th. His tee shot is right of the flag but he's set up for a nice pitch to the pin.

  17. Vegas within onepublished at 20:12 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    J Vegas -13 (16)

Eagle chance for Jhonattan Vegas on 16 but his putt doesn't have enough. It's a birdie to take within one of the lead.

  18. Postpublished at 20:10 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    J Rahm -14, T Fleetwood -13 (10)

Utter madness. Tommy Fleetwood has not made a birdie all day long and he'll be struggling at the par-five 11th hole after sending his ball straight into the water.

Jon Rahm is next up and he plays a shot that I can only describe as being like something out of the mid-1990s movie Tin Cup. If you've not seen it just watch the final five minutes.

Overly ambitious doesn't even come close as he plays out of the sand straight in the sauce!

Eddie Pepperell told us yesterday he was on the verge of going home on Tuesday given the worrying state of his ball-striking. Now he is on course to set a challenging clubhouse lead. Currently 13 under playing 17.

  20. Pepperell on the marchpublished at 20:06 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    E Pepperell -13 (16)

Eddie Pepperell is well and truly on the march.

The 28-year-old has just carded another birdie at 16, his fourth in six holes to move a stroke behind the leaders.
