    T Fleetwood -13, J Rahm -13 (6)

Tommy Fleetwood is looking pretty concerned at the seventh hole after ending up in the pine needles down the right.

What can he do from here? Harry Houdini would be proud of his answer as he fades a shot around the trees on to the green. What an escape.

Jon Rahm finds the green in two but has a long putt for birdie.

  2. McIlroy drops backpublished at 19:02 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    R McIlroy -12 J Day -11 (7)

A sensational shot from Rory McIlroy after a loose second. A little dink off the mound gives him a chance of rescuing a par but his putt slides by.

A case of when you go to the well too many times.

He drops back, one shot off the lead.

Only 19 players within three shots of the lead. Just imagine a play-off with a dozen or more players!

  5. Rose escapes with par after finding waterpublished at 18:59 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    Rose -11 (11)

Justin Rose did escape with a par on the par-five 11th. A five wasn't what he wanted but it keeps his final-round scorecard blemish-free.

  6. Postpublished at 18:55 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    T Fleetwood -13, J Rahm -13 (6)

Jon Rahm, where have you been hiding?

After starting with some uncharacteristically poor iron play, the laser-guided system is back up and running at six, as he lands his ball within a few feet from about 150 yards.

A very presentable birdie putt is taken. He's back at the top albeit alongside four other players including playing partner Tommy Fleetwood who has just made a fifth consecutive par.

  7. Rose in the waterpublished at 18:53 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    Rose -11 (10)

It was looking good for Justin Rose but there has just been a very loud splash on the par-five 11th as his second shot found the drink.

Rose is two shots off the lead on -11 but might not be for much longer.

  8. Postpublished at 18:47 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    R McIlroy -13, J Day -11 (6)

What's this... there's a huge cheer as Rory McIlroy becomes one of four players sharing the lead with a birdie at six.

A glorious second shot sets him up, as he lands his ball dead within three feet of the pin.

  9. Watch: Furyk chips in for eaglepublished at 18:46 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

Jim Furyk is one off the lead having completed his first eight holes in two under to stand -12 overall.

This chip-in earlier on the fifth for eagle has been the highlight so far...

  10. Postpublished at 18:44 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    T Fleetwood -13, J Rahm -12 (5)

Tommy Fleetwood finds the centre of the the green on five but can't make birdie from there.

He rolls his putt to four or five feet before marking his ball, composing himself and grabbing yet another par alongside Jon Rahm.

  11. Three-way tie for leadpublished at 18:40 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    A Ancer -13, O Schniederjans -13 (6)

Mexico's Abraham Ancer and American Ollie Schniederjans are coming up on the rails.

Both have just birdied the sixth to move into a three-way tie for the lead with Tommy Fleetwood. Good job leaderboards are electronic these days....

Having to go up and down a ladder to shift players and scores about would be a nightmare today.

  12. Postpublished at 18:37 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    R McIlroy -12, J Day -11 (5)

No incidents for Rory McIlroy and Jason Day at the fifth as they collect regulation pars. Time for them to kick on?

  13. Postpublished at 18:35 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    T Fleetwood -13, J Rahm -12 (4)

Jon Rahm isn't a happy man at the moment and now he's asking himself, "why am I hooking everything today,"? after finding the rough on the fifth.

  14. Rose two off leadpublished at 18:32 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

Suddenly, as the leaders drop back, England's world number two Justin Rose is only two off Tommy Fleetwood's lead.

Rose is three under for his round, having just completed his front nine.

  15. Postpublished at 18:29 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    T Fleetwood -13, J Rahm -12 (4)

Nice from Tommy Fleetwood at the fourth.

He has a tricky putt up the hill for a par but makes it with that claw putting grip working to good effect.

He now leads outright as Jon Rahm drops his third shot in four holes after hitting a spectator off the tee.

  16. Postpublished at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    J Furyk -12 (7)

As things stand Jim Furyk is suddenly right in the frame.

The 48-year-old, US Open champion of 2003, hasn't won a PGA Tour event since the RBC Heritage Classic in 2015.

But boy can he grind. He's two under after seven today and is now tied for third on 12 under.

  17. Postpublished at 18:24 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    Iain Carter
BBC Sport golf correspondent at Sawgrass

It has been an uncertain start from the pacesetters and the leaderboard is closing up with 15 players within two shots of the lead. McIlroy's error from the fourth was a shocker, the issue was missing the fairway and then finding water from the rough. Yet again he will be feeling the final-day heat after that double bogey.

  18. Postpublished at 18:22 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    R McIlroy -12, J Day -11 (4)

Rory McIlroy takes a double after finding the water while Jason Day also bogeys the fourth.

It's been a pretty horrible start for some of the players at the top of the leaderboard.

  19. Postpublished at 18:19 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    J Rahm -13, T Fleetwood -13 (3)

Now it's Jon Rahm's turn to have an absolute shocker on the third.

The spade and bucket are out as he finds another bunker and that leads to another dropped shot. Tommy Fleetwood picks up a shot on his playing partner with a par.

  20. Postpublished at 18:14 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2019

    R McIlroy -14, J Day -12 (3)

Rory McIlroy is in the drink on the fourth. He left himself with a bit of work there after finding the semi rough on the right from the tee.

His second was one of those horrible shots where you're stood above the ball which is on a downward slope and you attempt to alter your grip accordingly.

That did not go to plan. And it's probably going to cost him at least one shot.

No mistakes from Jason Day, who reaches the green but has at least 40 feet to the cup for a birdie.
