    Harding -3 (18)

Like his predecessor Corey Conners, leader Justin Harding is spiked by Holly.

Named after the native evergreen tree which is dotted all around the 18th hole, the 465-yard par four forces Harding into an error with his approach shot.

In the greenside bunker for two, he splashes out and two putts to finish with a bogey.

Neverthless, the Augusta debutant is the early clubhouse leader after an opening 69...

  4. More headliners take to the stagepublished at 19:02 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

More big names are passing through the first than the stage at a benefit gig. After Dustin Johnson opens with a par, Phil Mickelson, Justin Rose and Justin Thomas tee off in the all-star group behind.

That leaves just Jordan Spieth, Paul Casey and Brooks Koepka to step up in the final group of the day.

In front of DJ is Open champ Francesco Molinari, a player backed by many and leaving them happy with a birdie on the second.

  5. Bad start to the Daypublished at 18:59 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    McIlroy E (9), Johnson E (1), Day +1 (1)

Rory McIlroy sends one out there some 311 yards on the 10th, leaving him around 170 yards into the dancefloor.

Dustin Johnson gets his Masters going with a par and then fizzes one 320 yards down the second fairway. Australia's Jason Day, who has finished in the top 10 here three times, opens with bogey after finding bunker from the tee.

Tiger Woods may have four Green Jackets but what about first-round scores below 70?

Well in 21 attempts around this lush track he's managed it just the once.

Back in 2010 when he opened up with a 68.

    He's won here after scores of 70, 70, 70 and erm...74.

So he's in pretty good shape so far.

Not a bad outward trip for Tiger Woods.

He reaches the turn at one under after a birdie three at nine.

He has only every shot sub-70 in an opening round at Augusta...

Tuesday night saw the Champions' Dinner where previous Masters winners obeyed the strictest dress code in sport.

As the previous year's champions Patrick Reed got to pick the menu.

Loosen your belt a notch, this is the sort of meal that Pete Doherty would struggle with.

It starts off sedate enough with either caesar salad or wedge salad.

Then Prime Bone-In Cowboy Ribeye steak with, like it is a side, macaroni cheese, along with creamed spinach, corn creme brulee (?) and steamed broccoli, presumably as a peace offering to ward off gout.

Dessert is a choice of Tiramisu, Vanilla Creme Brulee, Chocolate Crunch and Praline cheesecake.

    Harding -4 (17), Kizzire -3 (8)

    HardingImage source, Getty Images

Justin Harding is rolling along nicely - another birdie on the 17th puts him four under. But he's not two clear. That's because Patton Kizzire - a 33-year-old American who missed the cut on his Augusta debut last year - is up to three under after a birdie on the eighth.

    Langer -2 (5)

Bernhard Langer is the Bryan Adams of the golfing world. The younger kids know the big hits and have seen glimpses - fairly recently - of the ageing talent. But ultimately they know he can't still produce it enough for a banger of a comeback album.

The 61-year-old German, who won the Masters in 1985 and 1993, appeared for an encore at Augusta three years ago, you might be remember.

But if you thought that was going to his last swansong then you might be wrong. He's only gone and sunk two birdies in the opening four holes.

Langer is one off the lead!

Dustin Johnson, your time has arrived.

One of the favourites, a man averaging over 300 yards off the tee on the PGA Tour, is about to get going.

A major and 20 PGA Tour wins to his name, he's hard to overlook. Jason Day - a major winner - and Bryson DeChambeau - a rapidly emerging US wizard - alongside him.

Reigning champion Patrick Reed was three under par after the first round in 2018.

It's not quite going to script for him so far this year though - he's currently one over par after ten holes.

  14. Birdie for McIlroypublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    McIlroy E, Fowler +1 (both through 8)

Now then, Rory on a par-five, a chance to get back to level par maybe. He takes driver and floats one over a fairway bunker, that comes in at around 320 yards. He'll have around 240 yards into the pin, while Rickie Fowler alongside him has a bit more postcode to cover with a shorter drive.

The American lays up, Rory goes for it in two... nice. A lengthy putt for eagle left. He opts to chip from the fringe and leaves a dolly for birdie. Smart stuff.

No such joy for Rickie who can't wedge in close and leaves with par. Not the order of the day on these par-five drags.

A quick venture to the BBC Radio 5 Live office in the bowels of the media centre. No beautiful view down the driving range for Iain Carter and the rest of the team.

They do, however, have two enormous television screens.

2003 US PGA Champion Shaun Micheel, one of the summarisers is flicking through the players book. He glances up as Sergio Garcia hits down the right side of the fairway on 11. "He's good down there," says the American.

"Ideally you'd like to go a bit more right but they've put in trees to stop that. You see that biggest tree on the right there. They put that one in to stop you going straight over the top."

Commentators John Murray and Alistair Bruce Ball are currently out on the course preparing.

The team is live from 19:00 BST on BBC Radio 5 Live and uninterrupted from 22:00 on Five Live Sports Extra.

Doesn't the Golden Bear look good in yellow.

And isn't it heartwarming to know that golf's greatest ever player still revels in his ceremonial role at the Augusta National.

Just the 18 major championships for Jack Nicklaus!

    Harding -3 (16)

So what do we know about Justin Harding? Well, he's a 33-year-old South African... but the real nitty gritty reveals a little more.

He has never played a Masters before this week, qualifying after climbing into the world's top 50.

That followed his first European Tour win - a two-shot victory at the Qatar Masters. And his only two other major appearances both saw him head for the airport before the weekend.

Back to today and the 16th... Harding's tee shot flirts with the drink, his ball clinging on to the green like a scared child holds the bar on a white-knuckle ride.

Two putts and he's going up to the 17th with the Masters lead in his back pocket.

Ian Poulter is off and running. He loves a sweet pair of slacks the lad. These do not belong to him though. They're more Floyd Mayweather than Poults.

Someone will be rolling in the green this week as the winner walks away with around £1,400,000 the current exchange rate.

    Not bad for four days.

If you shoot four rounds of 70 and win, that's about £5,000 per shot.

Oh wait! We have a darter. But it's not Tommy Fleetwood. It's another man who all but golf geeks will have to Google.

South Africa's Justin Harding, playing at Augusta for the first time, birdies the 15th to go three under.
