  • 48-year-old Phil Mickelson birdies last to reach -5

  • Poulter leading European on -4 alongside USA's Dustin Johnson

  • Scott & Rahm -3, Wood & Fowler -2, Fleetwood -1

  • McIlroy two bogeys at end to finish +1

  • Champion Reed +1, Rose & Spieth +3, Casey +9

  1. Bjerregaard bogeys the lastpublished at 19:49 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Bjerregaard -2 (18)

And then there were two. Lucas Bjerregaard, like Justin Harding and Corey Conners, is eaten up by the last.

The Dane loses a shot on the 465-yard par four and drops away from front-runners Harding and Patton Kizzire.

Bjerregaard's bogey is almost identical to the one carded by Harding - decent drive, poor approach into the right-hand bunker, splash out and two putts.

  2. Birdie for Rickie!published at 19:46 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    McIlroy +2, Fowler -1 (after 12)

    Rickie, Rickie.

That's how you navigate 155 yards of Augusta National my boy. Pin seeking stuff, leaves a roll in from a few feet for birdie. That's two in a row and into red numbers for a man who has played in 36 major competitions and seeks a first win.

Rory McIlroy makes par on the short hole alongside him and is two over.

  3. Thomas goes one underpublished at 19:46 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Thomas -1 (3)

    Justin Thomas, come on down!

The 2017 US PGA champion knocks in a 19-footer to make some birdie dough on three.

  4. Postpublished at 19:44 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Fleetwood -1, Woods -1 (12)

Twenty-seven players are currently in the red with Augusta. Fifteen of them are one under - including England's Tommy Fleetwood and some bloke called Tiger Woods.

Fleetwood, who finished tied 17th last year, was two under at the turn but a bogey on the 10th has halted his progress.

Woods, meanwhile, has started going back to the clubhouse par-par-par in the group behind Fleetwood,.

  5. Spieth back to par, Rose level parpublished at 19:42 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Spieth E (2) Rose E (3)

American Jordan Spieth is back to par after picking up a stroke on the par five after a lovely chip to within five feet.

Justin Rose is also level par after keeping it central and steady for three consecutive pars.

  7. Casey's career can 'move up another notch'published at 19:36 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Paul CaseyImage source, getty

Paul Casey is back on the verge of the world's top 10 after becoming the first man to retain the Valspar Championship last month.

And fellow Englishman Oli Wilson still believes 41-year-old Casey, who has had five top-10 finishes at Augusta, can still land that elusive major.

"Everything off the course is settled, he's happy and playing great golf," Wilson said on 'The Cut', the BBC's golf podcast.

"It's been funny because when he was younger he was such a good closer, he won everything and dominated, and then came on tour and did the same thing.

"Then he lost that over the last decade. He was still playing well, but wasn't able to get over the line, which for a person of his personality, someone who is very confident and a very accomplished golfer, I always found strange.

"But the fact he got over line I can see him competing regularly and maybe moving his career up another notch."

  8. Bogey for McIlroypublished at 19:35 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    McIlroy +2 (11)

Rory brings up a second bogey in as many holes on 11. He pushed to the trees off the tee and ended up with around 30ft on the green for his par.

As Phil Casey of the Press Association points out, work to do.

The Qatar Masters champion leads the Masters.

On debut South Africa's Justin Harding shoots 69 at three under. Also on that mark Lucas Bjerregaard (three under par ) and Patton Kizzire (three under par) - a name I stumble over at every attempt.

  10. Not his Day?published at 19:28 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

Poor Jason Day. It appears his troublesome back is giving him more grief. The former world number one was struggling with the injury coming into the week and, according to some journos at Augusta, needed treatment on the second hole.

  11. Rose opens with a parpublished at 19:27 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Rose E (1)

Justin Rose, world number one, is steady as she goes with a regulation four on the first.

  12. Bogeys for Spieth & Casey on onepublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Spieth +1 (1) Casey +1 (1)

Not a strong start for 2015 champion Jordan Spieth. The American missed a two-foot tiddler to cough up a stroke.

Paul Casey's miss was less glaring. Nine foot. But the damage is the same.

  14. Birdie for DJpublished at 19:21 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Johnson -1, DeChambeau -1, Day E (all after 2)

Unsurprising really that Dustin Johnson devours the par-five second like it's an all you can eat buffet. He even hit a bunker but scooped out to make a mockery of the 575 yards and make birdie.

Bryson DeChambeau does the same to reach red numbers and Jason Day is back to level.

    Harding -3 (18)

    Justin HardingImage source, Getty Images

There's a stat circulating on Twitter which we have checked and it's accurate. This time last year, your Masters co-leader Justin Harding was missing the cut at the Zanaco Masters in Zambia.

He was also ranked 422nd in the world.

What a difference a year makes.

    McIlroy +1, Fowler +1 (both after 10)

    Rory McIlroyImage source, Getty Images

Rory McIlroy pushes his approach right on 10 and finds sand. Out with the spade, he's onto the green and pushes again... this time a putt slips past. Bogey time.

Playing partner Rickie Fowler has a lengthy birdie putt... nice length... wrong line. The American - tipped by many - can't shift his mark of one over.

  17. Three's a crowd?published at 19:16 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

Justin Harding isn't flying solo up top. Oh no. He's got two squeezed alongside him in the cab.

Lucas Bjerregaard - every golf writer's favourite player* - is one of them after birdies at 13 and 15, while Patton Kizzire is still there too.

    * we say writers because it is actually easy to pronounce... BEER-GARD

  20. Will Augusta inspire Spieth?published at 19:11 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Iain Carter
BBC Sport golf correspondent at Augusta National

Sandy Lyle is 61 years of age but he’s gone round the front nine in 35 shots. He won the tournament here in 1988.

The likes of Fred Couples has been up there, in recent years and Bernhard Langer has started well.

Tiger Woods is off to a solid start and it will be interesting to see how Jordan Spieth goes because his form has dropped off the edge of a cliff. Will the magic of this place inspire him again?
