Like Justin Rose before him. Brooks Koepka goes past the 15th green and uses the wind to his advantage with a delicate chip to stick his ball within spitting distance of another birdie.

Chance for Paul Casey to get a confidence-booster with a birdie on the 15th... OMG. He's lipped out from a few feet. We'd have all lobbed our putter in the lake if it was us.

  2. Poulter home safely...published at 23:37 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Poulter -4 (18)

Ian Poulter on the 18th green. This is key for his mental state you'd think.

Putt one goes up the ledge and settles maybe six feet from the cup. A knee-knocker to make par and stay at four under. Up he steps... straight in.

    Big from Poulter. Big.

    Mickelson -3, Rose +4, Thomas E (15)

Phil Mickelson is almost the proud owner of a large crystal bowl. Why? That's the prize given for a hole-in-one at Augusta. Punters, pardon, patrons, jump to their feet as Leftie sticks his tee shot within gimme distance.

    Another birdie awaits...

PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 live

Brooks Koepka has been very fortunate. But a player of his length cannot afford to give up chances to get to the green.

He has a gimme pitch and I suspect a guy of his talent will get it up and down.

    Koepka -5 (14)

Brooks, you lucky boy! Koepka's sprayed drive ended up, somehow, in the middle of the fairway. So the leader, perhaps feeling his luck won't stretch any further on this hole, plays safe with his second on the par-five 15th and goes past the green.

Meanwhile, something is brewing up ahead judging by the noise...

  6. What a shot! Three birdies...published at 23:31 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    DeChambeau -4 (16) Day -3 (16) D Johnson -4 (16)

Goodness me, Bryson DeChambeau nearly aces his tee shot on 16. He'll be able to blow that one in for birdie. Majestic. He's about to hit four under.

Jason Day continues to be patched up with his hip injury. The doctor has earned a crust today. Birdie for the Australian. In the mix, despite hobbling around.

Over to Dustin Johnson, to move within one of the lead, he's got 10ft or so and it breaks perfectly into the cup. Birdie. Three of them on the 16th.

  7. Rose lands first birdiepublished at 23:30 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Mickelson -3, Rose +4, Thomas E (15)

    Nice Justin, very nice.

World number one Rose uses the wind to great effect, lobbing his third towards the pin from the back of the green on the par-five 15th. That should end in his first birdie of the day... it does!

Mickelson is putting for an eagle after two fantastic shots... it's longer than the world's longest snake. Roughly. That slithers a few feet past the drain, leaving an easy conversion. Leftie is lurking two back...

Thomas, in a natty pair of salmon pink trousers, misreads a birdie putt to miss out going into the red.

  8. Koepka in trouble?published at 23:27 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    Iain Carter
BBC Sport golf correspondent at Augusta National

Brooks Koepka has sprayed his tee shot way right into the trees. It cannoned around and I couldn't see where it came out, if it has.

It was not the shot he would have wanted after a long wait.

Brooks Koepka and Jordan Spieth sit on a wall and chew the fat as they wait for the group in front to get out of hitting distance. Wonder what they're chatting about? Football?

Finally things get moving - after a 15-minute wait.

Koepka, our leader, lashes his drive right of the fairway...

Matt Wallace did not sound a happy man at all:

"I didn’t enjoy it, didn’t play well and did not get a run of the ball. I could not get anything going. I couldn’t hit a nine on to the green from 125 yards - it was shocking today.

"I hit it bad on the range this morning so I just had to try to dig deep and get something going and couldn’t.

"I have no idea why. I did the same things as last few days and felt good and just couldn’t get it going today, I didn't have the same feeling.

"It is difficult to think of the par three contest right now. I did this at Bay Hill and I found myself after the first round. I'm straight back on the range now and we've got to go and post a number now tomorrow morning."

England's Eddie Pepperell, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, on his Masters debut:

"We had as many practice interviews as I had practice rounds. It was a grind. At times I hit some good iron shots but I didn’t feel too comfortable on the greens, I have to say.

"It was up and down round really. It was my first time here so you have to retain a bit of perspective. My nerves were fine - I supplemented with some melatonin for the jet lag.

"I’ve always struggled to let go fully on Thursdays but this is the kind of course that will be hard to really free up anyway with the pin positions. It is not hard to get in play off the tee but that is where the fun really starts.

"You’re never really relaxed on this course which is a shame."

  16. Birdie for Bryson...published at 23:17 British Summer Time 11 April 2019

    D Johnson -3, DeChambeau -3, Day -2 (15)

Frustrating pars for Dustin Johnson and Jason Day on 15 - a par five. Bryson DeChambeau continues to do things smartly with his flat cap - rolling home a short birdie putt.

Now, key moment, Brooks Koepka is about to take on this par five and he will expect to make a four.

    Watson level (16)

Bubba Watson is playing with a luminous green ball. Surprised that doesn't flout an Augusta rule.

Young Gerry has carded 11 pars so far today... and he makes that 12 with a routine tee-hitting-green/two putts combo.

Not since 1979 and Fuzzy Zoeller (pictured) has a player turned up and won on debut at the Masters. That's a full 40 years.

We briefly had Justin Harding and Corey Conners - debutants - on top of the pile but suddenly some familiar names are showing what's what.
