  3. Pars for big dogs...published at 17:22 British Summer Time 12 April 2019

    DeChambeau -7, D Johnson -3, Day -4 (all after 6)

Bryson DeChambeau can't make the solid tee shot count on six so there's no birdie. It's a hat-trick of pars for him, Dustin Johnson and Jason Day. The latter is having a decent day having found two shots to reach four under.

Day's last big win came at the Wells Fargo just under a year ago. He's finished in the top 10 three times here so he knows his route around this famous patch of land for sure.

  4. Lefty takes a wrong turnpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 12 April 2019

    Mickelson -5 (5)

Now we don't know if Brooks Koepka is the kind of guy who gets the heebie-jeebies, but old man Mickelson is keeping him company on the ride.

Lefty bogeys the fifth to drop back alongside his fellow American.

  5. Another bogey for Koepkapublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 12 April 2019

    Koepka -5 (4)

Brooks Koepka's round has got more ups and downs than Alton Towers.

Now he's dropped a shot on the fourth to slip further off the shoulder of Bryson DeChambeau.

    Birdie-double bogey-birdie-bogey. Quite the start.

  6. Chance to extend the lead...published at 17:16 British Summer Time 12 April 2019

    DeChambeau -7, Johnson -3 (both after 5)

    Hello...

Bryson DeChambeau moves to within five feet for birdie on the par-three sixth. A cracking tee shot gives him a look at extending the lead.

Dustin Johnson alongside him his par crazy today - six of them. He'd do well to break that run here as he has 40ft left for birdie.

    Day -4 (5)

Jason Day is bolting like a raging bull. The Australian, who suffered with a back injury yesterday, has birdied two and five to charge alongside Poults into tied fourth.

  8. Poulter saves from sandpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 12 April 2019

    Poulter -4 Kuchar -2 (both after 7)

Well done Ian Poulter. Matt Kuchar alongside him shows how things can go very wrong in a bunker as he takes two to escape the green-side trap on seven. It results in bogey for the American but Poulter scoops his ball out to within five feet and drains that bad boy for par.

A save David Seaman would be proud of.

  9. 'Probably the only kid Phil’s ever turned down'published at 17:11 British Summer Time 12 April 2019

    The time Phil snubbed Brooks.....

You know the score, you see a sporting hero as a kid and wander over for an autograph to add to your collection. Usually no problem, right? Wrong.

When a 8 or 9 year-old Brooks Koepka approached Phil Mickelson in the Masters car park big Phil turned him down.

"I'm probably about the only kid Phil’s ever turned down,” Koepka said.

It's all a bit of a blur to Mickelson who could become the oldest winner of a major championship this weekend.

“When reporters ask you about stuff like that, it makes me feel old, sure, so thank you for bringing that up,” Mickelson said.

“It's actually fun stories that a guy like Brooks Koepka, who's won, what, three majors now recently has been out here as a kid. There's a lot of good, young players like that that I have a lot of respect for were barely born, or if not, weren't born when I started playing the PGA Tour."

Talking of Phil Mick, this story from the PGA Tour , externalwebsite may well be trotted out over the next day or two if Lefty and Brooks Koepka are in Sunday's final pairing....

  11. Century up for Mickelsonpublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 12 April 2019

    Peter Scrivener
    BBC Sport at Augusta National

Phil Mickelson, chewing on gum, fires his second into the patrons to the right of the fifth green. It's been a steady start for Lefty who is playing his 100th round at the Masters today.

One birdie and three pars so far but he'll need a magic wedge to remain under par for the day.

    Rose +2 (4)

Justin Rose is not quite blooming (sorry) just yet. Those opening two birdies are dampened by a bogey on the par-four third, where missing the green with his approach proved costly.

Opting to putt out of the thicker cut on the right, he can't stick on the brakes as the ball hits the open road of the green and misses its junction.

A long u-turn isn't successful either and a bogey drops him back.

  13. Birdie for Koepkapublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 12 April 2019

    Koepka -6 (3)

Talk about mental strength! Brooks Koepka has picked up that double bogey on two and thrown it out of his mind.

The three-time major champion lumps his drive just short of the green on the 350-yard second, knocks on a sweet chip and sends the ball south with his birdie putt.

Back alongside Phil Mickelson and one off Bryson DeChambeau's lead...

  14. Sand and more sand...published at 17:01 British Summer Time 12 April 2019

    DeChambeau -7 (4) Poulter -4 (6) Kuchar -3 (6)

Bryson DeChambeau walks onto one of the hardest holes on the course - the lengthy par-four fifth. Starts the drive right and that's where you want to be to get a line into the green. He'll have over 200 yards to go though.

Ian Poulter goes down the right side of the seventh fairway and that looks solid. Now then, what's he got in the locker? A bucket and spade hopefully as he's in the pit to the right of the green. Tough chip from there as he has no green to work with.

Matt Kuchar is the steamer in the field so far... three birdies and up to three under. Kooooocccchhhh. No getting carried away though, he follows Poults into the sand.

    Casey +9 (3)

Another Englishman who had a stinker yesterday was Paul Casey.

A man who was tipped by quite a few this week (including one of our BBC Sport Online team who chucked a tenner on him...) shot a nine-over 81 - his worst round at Augusta.

Today has started much steadier... par-par-par.

Unsurprisingly Justin Rose did not make the cut for our 'shots of the day' montage yesterday. Here's who did...

    Rose +2 (2)

One of the big surprises yesterday was Justin Rose's struggles. The world number one shot a three-over 75 after an off-colour front nine.

Today he looks determined to make amends. The Englishman birdies the opening two holes. Don't rip up those each-way betting slips just yet...

  19. Double bogey for Koepkapublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 12 April 2019

    Koepka -5 (2)

The answer to that question is... *builds suspense* ...no.

Koepka finds the green with his fifth, but faces the sort of putt which would give us club golfers nightmares.

From nearly 30 feet, he lines up well right as the ball swings round left almost at a 90 degree angle.

That's short and leaves our overnight leader marking down a double-bogey seven.

    Mickelson -6 (2)

Up ahead of Koepka is the group containing Phil Mickelson - no such problems for Leftie on the 575-yard par five second.

He's nabbed a birdie to move one behind DeChambeau and Koepka. But will Koepka stay there?
