    Wallace +4 (7)

Matt Wallace is +4 and he hasn't finished the front nine yet. Ouch.

The Englishman has had two double bogeys - one on the fourth and one on the sixth.

Well, the seventh was a pretty good example of how not to play this links course for Reed, Wallace and Woods - all three took the scenic route down the left and that’s where the wiry, wet rough lies to eat up shots.

Tiger might have duffed three strokes in a row but he was still greeted in the Colosseum-esque seventh green - it’s Banks making a natural grand stand around the show floor - like a prized Gladiator.

  3. Woods to four overpublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Woods +4 (7)

The wheels are wobbling on the Tiger wagon.

Another bogey - his third in succession - sees him slide further down the rankings to four over and share of 119th.

It is like a trademark charge, but he has got stuck in reverse gear.

  4. ICYMI: McIlroy ends like he startedpublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

Rory McIlroy might need a hypnotist to make him forget the, frankly, woeful display on the Royal Portrush course.

He opened with a quadruple bogey - his first since in a major since the 2013 US Open - sprinkled a double bogey and finished with a triple.

The stuff of the worst nightmares.

  5. Reed & Johnson to one overpublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Reed +1 (7) Johnson +1 (8)

Patrick Reed is going to take on some water at seven after getting bogged down with a poor tee shot. Yep, a double-bogey seven.

Dustin Johnson also lets a shot go at eight.

    Fleetwood -3 (15)

Tommy Fleetwood eyes a golden chance to join Shane Lowry (in the clubhouse) and Brooks "Who can stop me?" Koepka on four under but his 16-footer on the 15th green loses momentum and veers stage left.

Nevertheless, it's been a good round so far for the Evertonian.

    Inamori -2 (4), Asaji -2 (3)

A couple of Japanese raiders coming into contention at the top end of the leaderboard: Yuki Inamori and Yosuke Asaji are making hay on the easier first few holes.

They are two under after four and three respectively.

  8. Cha cha slide?published at 17:06 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

There’s bedlam up on the slope behind a line of spectators on the seventh as Patrick Reed almost slides back down when trying to retrieve his wayward tee shot.

One steward instructs the fans in his line to the left and then to the right. Like an Open cha cha slide.

  9. Willett back to level parpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Willett E (12)

It was nice while it lasted.

England's Danny Willett was three under and on manoeuvres off the 10th green.

But he cops a double bogey six on 11 before dropping another shot on 12. Back to level par in a twinkle.

  10. Koepka is the on-course leaderpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Koepka -4 (14)

    Brooksy! Brooksy!

Another birdie on the 14th takes him to level with clubhouse leader Shane Lowry on four under.

The weather has turned for the worse - it's splattering it down - but it's not bothering the world number one in the slightest.

  11. Rainingpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    It is raining, really raining.

Dirty, great raindrop thudding down across at least half the course.

Tiger Woods just teed off on six into the teeth of the squall.

  12. Woods to three overpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Woods +3 (6)

    Tiger, Tiger, fading out.

Tiger Woods takes a double bogey five at sixth and is out to three over.

This is not going well. Might we have a weekend of action without either him or Rory, who finished at eight over earlier today?

  13. Koepka in controlpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Koepka -3 (13)

You should go around to Brooks Koepka's house. Not a mark anywhere.

None on his mahogany piano, any of the bannisters on his staircases nor his 42in curve screen TV in the second kitchen.

And currently his opening round is unblemished with three birdies and par o'clock. He's just plonked one of the 14th green.

    Easy.

Tiger mutters away to his caddie after that tee shot at six, saying he couldn’t tell where it went. Luckily there’s a good thousand or so fans gathered around the green to tell him he’s slid off to the left...

  15. Woods in trouble on sixpublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Woods +1 (5)

Tiger Woods is off the green at the par-three sixth. He has got to get from the basement level up into the penthouse in one leaping wedge shot.

His wedge leaps up the slope, fizzing with spin, but it does not bite as hard as he would like.

He is going to drop at least one shot here.

    Rose level (7)

This is solid from Justin Rose - the wind has picked up making it more difficult for those left on the course, but Tylney Park Golf Club's finest remains unflustered.

Another par, on the seventh, when he looked like he might drop another bodes well for the rest of the round.

  17. Woods drops shot at fivepublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Woods +1 (5)

Tiger Woods is here in body, but the fever that rippled around Augusta in April is noticeably absent.

He is not reading the runes on these links greens at all well. A shot goes overboard with a bogey on five.

  19. Rahm to two underpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Rahm -2 (4)

Jon Rahm - a Spanish bull in a proverbial chinashop - is starting to make some noise.

Two birdies in his opening four holes have moved him up to a share of 11th, two off leader Shane Lowry.

  20. Day to one underpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Day -1 (5)

Former world number one Jason Day, whose best Open finish was a share of fourth place at St Andrews in 2015, picks up a shot at five.
