  2. Bag for life...published at 13:58 British Summer Time 17 July 2022

These golf bags, designed by local schoolchildren, have been dotted around town for fans to find as part of the Big Bag Trail this week - the design below sits outsite Old Tom Morris' former house, the other on Market Street, if you're on the hunt...

The bottom picture features a winning design that has been brought to lift for players to use during the championship, with this one currently on display at St Andrews' Castle Course.

The 10 sculptures will be auctioned off for charity after the Open.

Does Rory McIlroy still drink booze? Remember him saying a few years back he was going to cut down at the very least.

Either way, he would certainly deserve a refreshing shandy out of the Claret Jug if he does win.

  5. See how Hovland moved into the leadpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 17 July 2022

    Hovland -16 (14:50 BST)

Like most Norwegians, Viktor Hovland could ski almost as soon as he could walk.

And he flew out of the gates yesterday quicker than a gold medal hopeful in the Olympic cross-country.

Four birdies on the bounce early doors set the platform for his own round of 66.

    McIlroy -16 (14:50 BST)

Rory McIlroy was the pre-tournament favourite going into this week and has so far demonstrated why.

Watch how he out himself into today's final pairing with a superb 66 yesterday...

  7. Burns ties lowest round of the weekpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 17 July 2022

    Burns -6 (64)

Sam Burns could sell his final round to one of the last few pairings for a couple of quid.

The 25-year-old American, who has bagged himself four PGA Tour wins in the past 14 months, has shown the contenders what's possible on the Old Course this afternoon with a sparkling eight-under-par 64.

The world number 11 went out in 33 and picked up another at 10 before finishing in style with four birdies in a row.

Burns' round may see him sneak inside the top 30 but it could have been much better for the Louisiana native. Sadly, a desperately disappointing 77 yesterday, which featured a ruinous 44 on the back nine, put paid to his chances.

  9. Even the seagulls are excitedpublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 17 July 2022

    BBC Sport at St Andrews

It's been a wet and drizzly morning in St Andrews, which should soften the Old Course up nicely for the leaders heading out later this afternoon, when sunshine is expected to break through.

It's not dampened the spirits of the fans though - plenty were strolling through the town early on Sunday to soak up some action at the home of golf, probably awoken at 5am by the seagulls chirping louder than the galleries that followed Rory McIlroy yesterday.

Who needs sleep when you've got the adrenaline of a Sunday shootout at the Open, and plenty of coffee, to see you through?

Can't help thinking we'll see some sort of drama on the 17th and 18th greens today...

Let's not carried away just yet, though.

Viktor Hovland has long been touted as a major winner and he is tied at the top of the leaderboard with Rory McIlroy.

If today turns out to be his day then Hovland's glowing grin will be back out...

The hair is a touch greyer, the jawline has added chisel.

The swing is, say those in the know, better than ever.

But nobody would have predicted, as Rory McIlroy hoisted up the weighty Wanamaker Trophy at Valhalla, that it would be 2022 before he claimed another of golf's glorious gongs.

Will today finally be the day?

Simply, it's been a heck of a long time coming.
