    Smith -10 (8)

Hit it. Hit it. Oh err. Cameron Smith is punished for his errant tee shot on the par three eighth and coughs up a second bogey on the spin.

The Australian is no longer the outright leader.

“Wind is strong but feeling more out the left,” says Paul Casey as he lines up his tee shot on the 237-yard par-three eighth.

He sets it out left. Not coming back.

Cam Smith slams his iron into the ground after a wild shot. He’s not looking quite as composed as he did a couple of holes ago.

  4. Birdie for McIlroypublished at 19:06 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    McIlroy E (7)

What. A. Shot. Rory McIlroy may not really be in the mix but he is playing some great stuff at present, zipping his tee shot right at the pin on the 17th and then sliding in a clam birdie putt.

The Northern Irishman is four under after eight and it would not be a surprise at all to see him in the top 15-20 by the close of play.

Just been watching/listening to the Norwegian commentary of Viktor Hovland’s ace earlier today.

    It is something to behold.

Muted applause for Paul Casey’s birdie.

Cam Smith may be an Aussie but he lives local to here and the support is all his.

What looked like a procession has take its first big turn.

  7. Smith sees lead reducedpublished at 19:01 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Smith -11

Cameron Smith drops a shot as that little blip on his second comes back to haunt him, sliding a seven footer past to the left. All a bit flat that.

Very much the story of the chasing pack has been, get up to seven or eight under then drop back or stand still as though there is some kind of invisible barrier preventing them from putting some pressure on Cameron Smith.

As I write that Paul Casey drops in a 10-foot putt to move to nine under and Viktor Hovland knocks in a brilliant long birdie on the 11th.

    Meanwhile....

    Smith -12 (6)

A collector's item. Cam Smith sees a relatively simple iron go slightly awry on the seventh.

Meanwhile, back on the tee Anirban Lahiri is getting into his yoga moves between shots. No idea what his last move was but it'd put Karate Kid to shame.

    Straka -8 (14)

Austria's Sepp Straka is very much running hot at the minute after making four birdies in five holes on the back nine but that's loose off the tee on 15th.

He's off to find his ball in the trees to the left.

    Hovland -8 (10)

That's nice from Viktor Hovland as he whips through an eight or nine iron from the fairway to plonk his ball down three feet from the 10th pin.

At four back the Norwegian needs a run of birdies to put some pressure on the leader.

A pretty good shot from Anirban Lahiri out of the pines on the sixth to give himself a look at birdie albeit an improbable one from 27 feet.

His big problem is the form of Cam Smith up ahead.

The media entourage following this Cam Smith group has increased considerably over the past couple of holes, with TV cameramen jostling for the best vantage point.

After that latest birdie, Smith walked a yard in front of me.

A cry of “Aussie Aussie Aussie” rang out. Not a flicker of emotion. He is the zone and this is sensational to watch.

  14. Smith extends his leadpublished at 18:40 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Smith -12 (6)

Is there any stopping Cameron Smith? Another birdie. Five in six holes is ridiculous by anyone's standard.

  15. Birdie for Hattonpublished at 18:38 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Hatton -6 (9)

England's Tyrrell Hatton creeps into the top 10 with a birdie from downtown. Surely he's too far back?

  16. Postpublished at 18:33 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Lahiri -10 (5)

A bad omen for Anirban Lahiri? He plays his second shot to 12 feet on the fifth but then sees his putt stay right as it bobbles down towards the hole. Only a par.

    Knox -8 (6)

Russell Knox is having a bit of a wobble over on the sixth. Has his bogey on the fifth a few minutes back got to him?

His second on the 390-yard par-four leaves him with a 45 foot putt for birdie so it's just a case of prodding it down as close as possible and not leaving himself nearly seven feet to save par.

    In it goes though.

    Henley -7 (12*)

What a round Russell Henley is having.

He makes a elementary birdie from some sensational iron play on the first and then follows up with an eagle after his 253-yard approach comes to a stop 36 feet from the pin.

  19. Not happening for Caseypublished at 18:23 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Casey -8 (5)

    Peter Scrivener
    BBC Sport at TPC Sawgrass

The first cries of ‘get in the hole’ as Cam Smith sent his putt forward.

Many fans turn and head off to the sixth, as Paul Casey misses another birdie look.

A shrug of the shoulders from the Englishman. It’s just not happening for him right now.

    Lahiri -10 (4)

Laser-like iron play from Anirban Lahiri at the fourth, knocking his second in to three feet to claim and extremely valuable birdie.

He's back within a stroke of Cam Smith.
