  1. Birdie for Kisnerpublished at 18:14 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Kisner -8 (6)

American Kevin Kisner has a 20-foot putt for birdie on the sixth after his tee shot didn't quite chase on towards the cup.

He spends a minute or two lining it up and then sends it on its way, it wobbles slight but then corrects itself almost like lane assistance in a car and drops plum in the middle of the hole.

  2. Is it Smith's day?published at 18:11 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

Paul Casey repairs a huge divot made by Sam Burns’ ball on the fourth green while waiting for the American to reach the green. Very decent of him.

The peace is shattered by the cheers for Cam Smith’s fourth successive birdie.

I keep waiting for the mistake - he seems to always have one in him while in contention, but maybe this is his day

  3. Smith sets the pacepublished at 18:10 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Smith -11 (4)

Four holes, four birdies for Cameron Smith! But then when every iron shot seems to laser in to within 10 feet of the pin what do you expect.

Unless he gets off the birdie train very soon the Players Championship will be disappearing out of sight for several of the chasing pack.

  4. Anything Lowry can do...published at 18:06 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Hovland -6 (8)

Not sure what my favourite part of this is.... The brilliant hole in one by Viktor Hovland earlier or the withdrawn high five.

    Lahiri -9 (3)

Anirban Lahiri plays with irons from 2014.

The only problem with that is that they are no longer manufactured so he has apparently had to source a backup set from Graeme McDowell.

In return, G-Mac has been promised a nice curry dinner.

Wind helping off the elevated fourth tee as spots of rain begin to fall again.

There are some big houses off to the right fairway, through the trees TPC Sawgrass is part of a gated community off TPC Boulevard.

Those spots of rain are getting bigger and heavier. There’s one massive grey cloud above us but clearer skies behind.

    Knox -9 (4)

Talking of local advantage, Russell Knox, also a Jacksonville resident, and someone who apparently plays the odd round at the course during the year, plays a brilliant approach on the fourth to set up his third birdie of the round.

  8. Postpublished at 17:56 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Lahiri -9 (2)

I was half expecting to see Anirban Lahiri's name rejoin Cam Smith atop the leaderboard. But he can only make par at the second.

  9. Smith takes the leadpublished at 17:52 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Smith -10

Up ahead Cameron Smith whips his tee shot to five or six feet. The Australian is scorchio at the moment and tidies up for his third straight birdie to take the outright lead.

Smith lives in Jacksonville, a short drive from TPC Sawgrass and is doing a decent job of convincing that there is a local advantage..

    Lahiri -9 (1)

Anirban Lahiri lines up a long eagle putt on the second. He plays up a slope and that slows up about a yard from the hole.

    Hovland -6 (7)

Viktor Hovland is quietly creeping up the leaderboard.

The Norwegian played a blinding approach to the fifth a little earlier and if he can get his putter warmed up could be in with a very big chance here.

Cam Smith is the man in this group with most support.

Paul Casey and Sam Burns largely ignored as they walked to the third tee.

Glacial play at the moment, 45 minutes for the opening two holes. I know there’s a lot on the line but do they know it gets dark in six hours?

  13. Smith shares the leadpublished at 17:39 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Smith -9 (2)

Cameron Smith has one of those awkward chips on from the fringes on the second that are so difficult to judge for pace.

He scoots past the pin by nine feet but then rolls in the return for a birdie. Successive birdies to start means he shares the lead.

  14. Henley's rollercoaster roundpublished at 17:36 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Henley -4 (9*)

What a day for Russell Henley....

    • 10th hole: Double bogey
    • 11th hole: Albatross
    • 12th -16th holes: Pars
    • 17th hole: Chip-in birdie

A standard Monday if you operate the Big Dipper.

  15. Rain... uh oh!published at 17:32 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Peter Scrivener
    BBC Sport at TPC Sawgrass

All the weather forecasts I scrutinised this morning were adamant that there was 0% chance of rain today.

    They lied.

Given what we had earlier in the week, hopefully this blows through quickly.

  17. Knox in the mix after back-to-back birdiespublished at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Peter Scrivener
    BBC Sport at TPC Sawgrass

The second green is no more than a lob wedge from the first tee. I’m waiting for Paul Casey to come along, but in front of him is a group featuring Scotland’s Russell Knox and Ireland’s Shane Lowry.

Knox is a local boy now, living just up the road in Jacksonville, where he also went to university. Both are on the green in three.

Lowry slides his 11-footer for birdie just wide. Knox from three feet is off to a flier with back-to-back birdies and he’s one off the lead.

  18. Double bogey start for Munozpublished at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

    Munoz -6 (1)

Sebastian Munoz slips right off the top section of the leaderboard as he cards a double on the first.

With no hint of irony one of his playing partners shouts 'nice shot' after he chips to three feet to limit the damage.

    Bet they really meant that.

Russell Knox taps in. Couldn't miss to be honest.

  20. Postpublished at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2022

Elsewhere on the course mind...Kevin Kisner picks up a birdie on the second yo move to seven under.

Meanwhile, Scotland's Russell Knox looks like he's about to pick up successive birdies after chipping to within inches of the pin on the par-five second.
