    McIlroy -2, Block +2 (11)

Michael Block gives a little shake of the head again, in disbelief at the week he's enjoying, rather than the two-putt par he's just holed out on the par-three 11th.

Rory McIlroy matches his playing partner.

  2. Scheffler birdies the 10thpublished at 21:29 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Rose -2, Scheffler -4 (10)

It's been an eventful turn for Scottie Scheffler.

Birdies at seven and eight, a bogey at nine, and now a birdie from almost 20 feet at the 10th.

He's only three off the lead and trending in the right direction, unlike Justin Rose, who has now bogeyed two of his last four holes after lipping a disappointing five-foot par putt here, and is in danger of fading away.

Michael Block is continuing to have a party out there at Oak Hill. We're not seeing too much of him but he's had eight pars and two bogeys today.

If you're new to him, he's one of 20 PGA professionals who have teed it up this week. He pays his mortgage by charging up to $150 for lessons at his club in California.

The 46-year-old was the only one to make the cut after two rounds of level-par 70. He was overjoyed to be playing with Justin Rose yesterday - and he shot another 70 - with Rose patting him on the shoulder and giving him fist bumps.

Today he's with Rory and has just faded a three-wood into the heart of the 11th green. He laps up the applause as he strides off to assess his birdie putt.

  4. Postpublished at 21:21 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Rose -3, Scheffler -4 (9)

Scottie Scheffler better positioned than Justin Rose to make a run at the minute - both overall and on the 10th green.

Rose on the fringes, while the American is dead centre of the green, with a 15-20 foot birdie putt.

  5. Postpublished at 21:20 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Conners -3, DeChambeau - 4 (9)

A steady par for Bryson DeChambeau as he closes out the front nine at one under for his round.

He's going to need to take advantage of an accommodating run over 10, 11 and 12 to put pressure on those above him.

  6. Postpublished at 21:16 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Koepka -7, Hovland -6 (8)

Another solid lag putt from Koepka means he has a stress-free par this time to just settle himself down after those two bogeys.

He still seems reasonably calm though - from the outside anyway!

  7. McIlroy is a little too far backpublished at 21:14 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Zane Scotland
Former European Tour player on BBC Radio 5 Live

McIlroy is a little too far back, but you have to think the way the conditions are, the players up in front of him, the class of the players around him - they're not all going to come back. Someone is going to push on.

  8. Rory birdiepublished at 21:14 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    McIlroy -2 (10)

There's a little bit of a rueful smile on Rory McIlroy's face as he strides off the 10th green.

Fairways and greens has been the mantra of every player this week and the Northern Irishman does both before holing an eight footer for birdie.

  9. Hatton signs off with 67published at 21:14 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Hatton +1 (67)

Tyrrell Hatton finishes off with a par on the 18th. The Englishman has played the last three rounds in 68, 69 and 67. If only he could burn his opening round of 77.

Anything around level par there would have put the 31-year-old right in the conversation.

  10. Postpublished at 21:13 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Koepka -7, Hovland -6 (7)

Koepka hits a smasher off the tee and threads the needle between the two bunkers lurking on the eighth - so he can find the green easily enough with his second.

Hovland hits the fairway rough, then the greenside rough which is a huge test for his dodgy chipping game - but he plays a super shot and knocks it stone dead to save par.

  11. Scheffler drops a shotpublished at 21:10 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Rose -3, Scheffler -3 (9)

Hands on head, complaining to his caddie about the drift, Justin Rose misses the birdie opportunity slightly to the right on the final hole of his front nine.

He's still one under par for the round - and with the leaders coming back to the field, a second major is far from impossible.

But the trouble is, neither he nor playing partner Scottie Scheffler can build a head of steam, as evidenced by the American's bogey effort here.

One step forward, one step back for this pair at the minute.

  12. DeChambeau up to thirdpublished at 21:09 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Conners -3, DeChambeau -4 (8)

That's more like it from Bryson DeChambeau as he refinds his wicked iron play.

He's inside six feet on the eighth and drains his birdie putt.

    Three back from Brooks Koepka.

  13. Postpublished at 21:06 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Rose -3, Scheffler -4 (8)

Justin Rose is hitting more fairways than he has all week, yet his putter is not quite as warm. Go figure.

Anyway, he's given himself another look a birdie on nine, finding the middle of the green to leave a 20-footer.

  14. Bogeys all roundpublished at 21:04 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Koepka -7, Hovland -6 (7)

An underrated part of Koepka's game is his lag putting, which is excellent again to ensure it's just a bogey and no more - but it's back-to-back dropped shots for our leader.

Hovland also drops a shot though so Koepka remains in the lead, but the two bogeys bring this pair back towards the rest of the field.

  15. Going to be a much more dramatic day todaypublished at 21:02 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Zane Scotland
Former European Tour player on BBC Radio 5 Live

The weather has improved so much and the course has been set up more dramatically - we are already seeing a bunch of birdies but as we have seen the bogeys are still out there.

We thought this would be a procession for Koepka but I think it is going to be a much more dramatic day today.

  16. Fleetwood's frustrationpublished at 21:02 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Fleetwood +4 (9)

    Tommy FleetwoodImage source, Getty Images

Tommy Fleetwood ends his front nine with a frustrating bogey.

The Englishman has just the one birdie to his name so far but two bogeys and a double, which came on the sixth have seen him drop 17 places to 27th overall.

  17. Bunker bother for Brookspublished at 21:01 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Koepka -8, Hovland -7 (6)

    Brooks KoepkaImage source, Getty Images

Koepka tries to sling a draw into the seventh, but it goes straight - and straight right into the greenside bunker.

Well, it's actually stuck up on the lip of the trap while Koepka stands in the sand to play it, and he doesn't play it very well as he chunks it barely halfway to the hole, still 30 feet to go.

  18. Birdie for Scheffler - but Rose lips outpublished at 21:01 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Rose -3, Scheffler -4 (8)

Justin Rose was closer in - but it's Scottie Scheffler who buries his 10-footer on the eighth while the Englishman lips out to the left.

That's a very frustrating miss for Rose, who would have expected to land that one.

  19. Rory back in the redpublished at 20:59 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    McIlroy -1 (9)

    Rory McIlroyImage source, Getty Images

And Rory McIlroy does indeed drain the birdie putt. He's somehow out in even par.

    Rollercoaster doesn't even come close.

  20. Penultimate pair fail at sevenpublished at 20:57 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Conners -3, DeChambeau -3 (7)

Hole seven is a grind and it's been ugly for Corey Conners and Bryson DeChambeau.

They're in need of birdies to get in contention but a bogey apiece means the leaders are fading into the distance.
