    McIlroy E (8)

Rory McIlroy has had three pars, three bogeys and two bogeys so far today.

He finds the ninth fairway and pops his wedge from 140 yards in to around a dozen feet. Surely that's a birdie coming up, if only to make the card look lovely.

  2. Postpublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Koepka -8, Hovland -7 (6)

Hovland takes a driving iron off the seventh tee for position - and promptly positions it down in the right rough.....

And the lie is bad enough that he has to just chop it out and lay up on this par four.

  3. Postpublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Rose -3, Scheffler -3 (7)

Justin Rose is not giving up the ghost. Peach of an approach to the eighth green that lands within eight feet.

He'll be annoyed at giving that shot up at the previous hole but a chance to take it straight back.

Scottie Scheffler follows him in about two feet further away - if these two can push each other on, we could yet have more than a two-way tussle for the title.

  4. Cantlay gets Oak Hill's third eaglepublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Cantlay -1 (14)

Whatever I write, Patrick Cantlay goes and does the opposite.

The short par-four 14th has been tempting all week and he produces a fabulous tee shot to hit the dance floor.

There's still 41 feet of putt to contend with but nay bother, he slots it home for only the third eagle of the tournament.

Back in the red and four under today.

  5. Off the tee is so importantpublished at 20:53 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Zane Scotland
Former European Tour player on BBC Radio 5 Live

Oak Hill is a challenge. Off the tee is so important. It seems to be every time a player gets on the tee, there are nerves there. If you get it on the fairway, there are birdies to be had.

    Koepka -8, Hovland -7 (6)

Just a nudge down the hill from Koepka and that's a nice thoughtful putt that he's not really tried to hole too much and risk racing it miles past - he's happy to take a bogey, which he gets.

Hovland makes a big time par save from about seven feet to make sure he cuts the lead to just one.

  7. Postpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    McIlroy E, Block +2 (8)

More bomb and gouge tactics by Rory McIlroy on the par-four eighth.

Drive tugged down the left, wedge out of the cabbage to 25 feet and two-putt par.

Playing partner Michael Block is also in for par after taking a route down the right.

  8. Bogey for Rose, birdie for Scottiepublished at 20:47 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Rose -3, Scheffler -3 (7)

Over at seven. Justin Rose hands back the shot he picked up at six.

Trouble from tee to green leaves a not-very-nice 20-footer to salvage par and it flies wide to the right.

Scottie Scheffler nails his first birdie of the final round to move back level with Rose - but netiher player is showing the level of consistency needed to challenge the leaders so far.

    Perez -2 (9)

A timely bounce-back birdie from Victor Perez. He definitely need that.

  11. Straka motoringpublished at 20:45 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Straka -2 (14)

Sepp Straka is firing on all cylinders here. The man from Vienna, who is now based in the southern state of Georgia plays impeccable stuff down the 13th before zipping in an iron to three feet for a kick-in birdie.

He follows that up on 14, with a nerveless birdie putt from 12 feet.

All of a sudden he's in a tie for sixth.

  12. Postpublished at 20:44 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Koepka -9, Hovland -7 (5)

Right, after much discussions, as is always the case with these matters, Koepka has been allowed to drop the ball next to the hazard and plays a nice recovery third shot to find the back of the green.

Hovland, after waiting a while on the fairway, hit before Koepka but wasted the chance to turn the screw by finding the greenside bunker - big error that one.

  13. Postpublished at 20:42 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Conners -4, DeChambeau -4 (6)

It's not how Corey Conners would have scripted a par on this devilish sixth hole - but he'll take it.

Bunker to bunker and then a wedge clipped to within three feet. Excellent scrambling from the Canadian.

Bryson DeChambeau is similarly clunky with his drive, but he keeps the wheels turning on his round by saving par.

  14. Koepka in troublepublished at 20:39 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Koepka -9, Hovland -7 (5)

Kopeka slices the pants off his tee shot on six, and it looks like it could be either in the water or is the muddy bog area - either way he's measuring up for a drop!

    The plot thickens...

  15. Postpublished at 20:38 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Perez -1 (8)

Nowt like back-to-back bogeys to kill momentum and the scorecard and Victor Perez is again reminded that finding the rough off the tee just ain't a good idea around this track.

He goes left off the tee on the seventh and eighth and it's enough to derail chances of pars or better on both holes.

The Frenchman has missed six cuts in nine major appearances but needs a three-way T4 or better to earn Special Temporary Membership on the PGA TOUR.

He is currently number one among players not otherwise exempt on the DP World Tour Race to Dubai Points List; the top 10 at the end of the season will earn PGA Tour cards for 2024

  16. Bogey for Rorypublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    McIlroy E (7)

    What the golfing gods giveth...

...Rory McIlroy is in prime position in the middle of the seventh fairway. He's got around 230 yards remaining on this par-four hole, which is statistically the hardest on the course today.

And Rory airmails the green! His ball thuds into the lush vegetation off the back. Fans are out with the cameras, snapping his ball.

Tricky up and down with the flag in a tiny corner of the green. It's too tricky. Wedge to 16 feet, par putt missed.

  17. Birdie for Rosepublished at 20:34 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Rose -4, Scheffler -2 (6)

    Justin RoseImage source, Getty Images

Birdies at the sixth hole have been at a premium this week but Justin Rose lands one from 15 feet that just drops in the right lip.

He turns around with a lovely smug look on his face suggesting he knew it was in all the way. You little fibber, Justin.

Back within five, the Englishman. Not out of this yet.

  18. Hovland hits backpublished at 20:34 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Koepka -9, Hovland -7 (5)

    Viktor HovlandImage source, Getty Images

Viktor Hovland finally lands a blow after taking a few Brooks Koepka haymakers so far - with the Norwegian landing a 16-foot birdie to eat into the lead, dragging it back to two shots.

Koepka knocks in a short par save as things start to get really interesting.

  19. Reed and Cantlay drop backpublished at 20:31 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Reed +1 (9), Cantlay +1 (12)

Maybe we got a bit excited about the Patricks - Reed and Cantlay are both back over par.

Oak Hill providing a reminder that it actually still is a really tough golf course.

  20. DeChambeau under par for the daypublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    Conners -4, DeChambeau -4 (5)

    Bryson DeChambeauImage source, Getty Images

A first move from Bryson DeChambeau.

He scoops his tee shot on five to within six feet and does the business for birdie.

    Too far back? Probably.

But to win the lottery, you have to buy a ticket.

Corey Conners' rollercoaster continues - he's dropped that shot straight back.
