  1. Bogey for Hull as Vu leads by twopublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

Charley Hull makes just her fifth bogey of the week after finding that greenside rough, as she could only stab it out and the ball ran miles across the green.

She did well in the end to make it just the one shot dropped with a nice two-putt from miles away.

Lilia Vu, meanwhile, gets up and down from the sand thanks to yet another nerveless four-footer as she extends to a two-shot lead - she certainly won't be losing this on the greens today.

  2. Oh Nelly!published at 15:05 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

    Korda -3 (6)

Guess what? Nelly Korda's missed another short putt - possibly the worst of all so far as it's a tentative jab at a three-foot birdie try that never threatens the hole.

This must be infuriating for the world number one who is playing so nicely from tee to green.

  3. Trouble for Hullpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

    Hull -9, Vu -10 (2)

Charley Hull gets a slice of luck when her stray tee shot takes a members' bounce out of the heather into the first cut of rough - but she leaks her second right as well, into some deeper stuff and on the short side of the flag too.

Lilia Vu is in the bunker across the other side of the green so neither playing this hole too well.

  4. Kim back to eight underpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

    Kim HJ -8, Yin -7 (3)

Angel Yin, on the third, hits a confident drive and it finds the short stuff and her second fares well against the breeze to find the green.

Yin faces a tricky birdie putt at around 20 feet but it runs out of legs, leaving her to knock in safely for par.

Hyo Joo Kim shows off her iron skills with her second shot and the ball scuttles up the green, setting herself up nicely for a birdie. No such trouble from around seven feet, and there's no timidness about that putt. She hammers that one in.

  5. Vu hits the frontpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

    Hull -9, Vu -10 (2)

Lilia Vu gets to 10 under with a textbook birdie at the second, using her unique one hybrid club twice and hitting two blinders before rolling in the five-footer for a three.

Charley Hull gets plenty of praise for her driving, but she's shown a lovely touch with a wedge just short of the green, pinching the ball off a tight lie and bringing it to rest just a couple of feet short of the hole. It's only a par though and she drops one behind.

  6. Kim and Yin both two off the leadpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

    Kim HJ -7, Yin -7 (2)

Hyo Joo Kim falls foul of that tricky bunker on the second, but gets out well. The wind picks up and she pauses her address. She waits albeit looking a little exasperated, strikes again and just finds the fluffy stuff to the rear of the green.

She chips comfortably onto the green but it will be a dropped shot - she joins Angel Yin two shots back from the leaders.

  7. Rounds of the daypublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

There are some decent scores to be had out there at Walton Heath today, even with a tricky breeze, as some of our early starters have shown.

Mao Saigo of Japan shot 67 on the par-72 layout, while England's Alice Hewson and recent Evian Championship winner Celine Boutier both went round in four-under 68s as they both ended the tournament on one under.

Janet Lin also shot 68, while 2018 Women's Open champion Georgia Hall shot 69 - one better than this year's US Women's Open champion Allisen Corpuz.

  9. Pars to startpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

    Hull -9, Vu -9 (1)

That's the first hole down with pars for both of our leaders - Charley Hull coming closest to making a birdie and leaving a tap-in.

Lilia Vu left herself with a knee-knocker from about five feet but rolled it in brilliantly which will be great for her confidence.

  10. Ewing drops a shotpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

    Ewing -6 (2)

After a cracking up and down and beautiful chip on the second, Ally Ewing pushes her par putt wide - that push never even looked remotely like it would go anywhere near the hole.

Having been five in front going into Saturday, the American finds herself dropping three off the lead early doors on Sunday.

  11. 'Less pressure on Vu than on Hull'published at 14:32 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

    Vu -9

    Beth Allen
Former LPGA and Ladies European Tour player

[Lilia Vu has] a lot of poise. She's her ups and downs and I actually think she might be playing with a lot less fear. She's overcome these things - she's already done it once.

She's got one, it would be incredible if she got two but there's not a lot of pressure on her as there is on Charley so I think she will feed off that.

  12. Another home winner?published at 14:30 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

    Hull -9

Charley Hull could become the first home winner of the Women's Open since Georgia Hall triumphed at Royal Lytham & St. Annes in 2018 - and it would be a genuine home victory.

As Hull only lives about 30 minutes away from Walton Heath and knows the course like the back of her hand - it'd be a true home success if she can deliver today.

“What Georgia did in 2018 was unbelievable and to do that again would be unreal," said Hull. "But one step at a time and I’m just going out there to have fun."

  13. Postpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

    Korda -3 (3)

Oh dear - that's another short putt missed by Nelly Korda as her flat stick remains stuck in the ice age and she just can't hole anything.

At least that was for birdie so she doesn't fall further back but she could've had a flying start here but for her woes on the greens.

  14. Yin drops shot on first holepublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

    Yin -7, Kim HJ -8 (1)

Oh no - that is not a great start for Angel Yin, as her par putt just slides away and she drops a shot on the first hole.

Hyo Joo Kim makes no mistake at all in the stiff Surrey breeze, she putts back up the hill and gives that five-footer a positive rap for par.

  15. 'No majors yet - but that could change today'published at 14:25 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

    Hull -9

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Charley has always just had that very single-minded approach and takes what she's given but also creates what she makes. I know that sounds absolutely obvious but there is just so much talent there and we've always known that

When she burst onto the scene she had five second-place finishes for her first five events on the LET. That's someone who's very special.

She should have more wins for the talent that she has, no majors yet - and that could change today.

  16. Leaders under waypublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

    Hull -9, Vu -9

Well, we've praised Charley Hull for her pace of play and lack of nerves, but that was a nervy first tee shot containing a load of waggles, a reload of the ball on the tee and a false start before she finally rips a three wood down the fairway.

As opposed to Hull's full throttle approach, Lilia Vu gets under way with a swing as smooth as silk - as calm as you like.

  17. 'Hit it, find it, hit it again'published at 14:22 British Summer Time 13 August 2023

    Hull -9 (14:20 BST)

"Hit it, find it, hit it again" is Charley Hull's golfing mantra and in a sport where slow play is so damaging in both the men's and women's game, she's a breath of fresh air in that regard.

She's always played that way too, whether it be in a regular LET or LPGA event to a major or even the Solheim Cup, there's never much waiting around for her to play.

And she usually keeps her foot on the gas too - always attacking and even leading the Women's Open won't stop that.

Charley Hull is and has been a firm favourite with young golf fans for some time now, with her attacking style brilliant for attracting new youngsters to the sport.

She's perhaps the biggest gunslinger in the women's game, with a great attitude, and would be a hugely popular winner at Walton Heath.

She'll have plenty of young followers again today and could be inspiring many to take up the game.

It's been a straight head-to-head to finish as top amateur with just two making the cut, and England's Charlotte Heath has come out on top.

Spain's Julia Lopez Ramirez shot a disappointing seven-over round of 79 today to finish 12 over for the tournament.

Heath shot a four-over 76 herself, including a double-bogey six at the last, but had enough shots in hand to claim the silver salver as the leading amateur.

Charley Hull planned to go to the Anthony Joshua fight on Saturday night, but leading the Women's Open means there's no room for rushing around for a night out - and she's got her own fight to win today.

And it's fair to say that excitement is her overriding emotion - she doesn't really seem one to struggle with nerves.

“I was going to the boxing at 10.30pm, but by the time I get home I’d be in too much of a rush, so I give them to my friends. Golf’s a sport, you play it because it’s fun, and good or bad, I just love it," she said.

"I'm super excited about Sunday. I'm not really feeling any pressure because I'm staying at home and I have played the course so often with my mates."
