    Hovland/Aberg v Burns/Morikawa 3UP (8)

A tricky five-footer for Viktor Hovland drops and Sam Burns needs to polish up for America.

He does, pars apiece and the US stay three up.

    Fleetwood/Hojgaard v Homa/Harman 3UP (7)

Lovely knocks from both Homa and Hojgaard with the wedges, both players down in the valley on the right.

So it's down to Brian Harman to win the hole.

It's a birdie putt but a long one at that.

With Homa assured of a three, he can take a run at it... he does that and it is looking good.

    Ooh! Lipped out.

    Fleetwood/Hojgaard v Homa/Harman 3UP (6)

Fleetwood wanders down to the green from his ball, assessing the situation in front of him.

Looks a decent lie on the grass patted down by the bums of the punters.

Fleetwood nudges his ball on to the green and let's the contours continue its journey towards the hole.

Good touch. Should be enough for a par three.

  4. 'Homa & Harman working really well together'published at 13:25 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Graeme Storm
Two-time European Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

Just fantastic match play from the Homa and Harman partnership. They're playing so much better than the Europeans at this time.

It has been a little bit scrappy from both Europeans in this session. It's not for want of trying but it is not quite happening for them.

Homa was meant to play with Clark and it didn't pan out as they wanted it to yesterday but these two are working really well together.

They obviously get on and they let each other get on with it. They trust each other that they have the capabilities to bring out what they need to win the hole.

    Fleetwood/Hojgaard v Homa/Harman 3UP (6)

Max Homa is four under on his own card today, but shows he is human by missing the seventh green.

With Brian Harman on the green but way short, the door is slightly ajar for the Europeans.

First up, Nicolai Hojgaard... but he's landed in a similar spot to Homa.

Let's see if Fleetwood can take the opportunity... no! What's he done? This is not very Fleetwood.

A clunky strike has the punters on the right ducking for cover.

    Hovland/Aberg v Burns/Morikawa 3UP (7)

Pure muscle from Sam Burns as he clubs it in to heart of the green from the first cut of rough.

The other three are scrambling from some devious lies. A great response from Viktor Hovland though who spits his shot out and it also clings onto the first ridge at the front.

    Rose/MacIntyre v Thomas/Spieth 1UP (5)

Justin Rose - he's the old man of a young European side and he leans on every bit of his experience to jam home a six-footer to halve the fifth and stay just one down.

  8. Postpublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Hovland/Aberg v Burns/Morikawa 3UP (7)

We had four lovely tee shots on the last par four - categorically not the case on the eighth hole.

All of them will be grubbing through the rough and Collin Morikawa is a little fortunate not to land his errant drive in the water down the left.

Remember when the US couldn't land a putt? Now they're sinking them all over the place.

Brian Harman drops one from 15 feet for a par, but that can be bettered by man-of-the-moment Max Homa.

This is for birdie... he's only gone and done it.

The Americans are now three-up in each of this afternoon's opening fourball matches.

  10. 'I'm very happy with who I am'published at 13:16 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

Jon Rahm has responded to Brooks Koepka's comments about acting childishly during their match yesterday.

"I mean, I'm not going to stand here and say I'm a, you know, perfect example on what to do on a golf course," said Rahm. "But I play and compete.

"I'm not happy I left a 10-footer short on 17 to possibly tie the hole, and going up to the tee, I let off some frustration hitting the board sideways, I kept walking, never stopped, that was it.

"If Brooks thinks that's childish, it is what it is. He's entitled to think what he thinks. I'm very comfortable with who I am and what I do.

"I've done much worse on a golf course like that. That doesn't even register to a low level of Jon anger on the golf course.

"As far as I'm concerned, I'm very happy with who I am, and I needed to do that at that moment to let off some steam and play the hole I wanted to do.

"Is it right or wrong, childish or not, I don't know, but that's what I needed at the moment."

    Hovland/Aberg v Burns/Morikawa 3UP (7)

Carefully done from these pairs around the seventh green as they all get up and down for three.

    As you were.

  12. McIlroy puts Europe aheadpublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    1UP Fitzpatrick/McIlroy v Cantlay/Clark (4)

Cool and composed from Rory McIlroy. He drains his birdie putt on the par-three fourth and there is a splash on European blue back on the board.

That feels very important for the home side as they try to fight off the American counter.

    Fitzpatrick/McIlroy v Cantlay/Clark A/S (3)

    This what Wyndham Clark wanted.

The US Open champion spoke about wanting to take on Rory McIlroy this week and the pair are going at it right now.

Clark finds the fourth green and will have a crack at the birdie.

But McIlroy has an even better look at it... that's a beauty of a tee-shot.

  14. 'He's being Sam Burns today'published at 13:09 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Hovland/Aberg v Burns/Morikawa 3UP (6)

    Andrew Magee
PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

The Americans are making their short putts, and are making the ones that count.

Sam Burns is firing up the crowd, he's looking at the crowd. He's being Sam Burns today.

    Hovland/Aberg v Burns/Morikawa 3UP (6)

A postage stamp pin position at the back of the seventh green and the first three leak right and short.

Ludvig Aberg is last up and his tee shot looks on a nice line but with a hop, skip and jump, his balls bounds off the surface and races into the rough.

Birdies are only coming via the wedge here.

  17. USA ahead!published at 13:06 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Rose/MacIntyre v Thomas/Spieth 1UP (4)

Another splash of red on the board as Jordan Spieth converts when Justin Rose couldn't and he puts the USA one up.

Spieth was on almost the exact same line as Rose but a foot or so closer so got a great read off the Englishman.

The American fightback is well and truly on.

    Fitzpatrick/McIlroy v Cantlay/Clark A/S (3)

Turns out Matt Fitzpatrick just pushed his approach on the third, meaning it was down to Rory McIlroy to salvage things for Europe.

Two putts from the back of the green equals the par carded by Wyndham Clark.

Still even steven in this group, no inch given yet.

  19. Postpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

A few chants of "USA, USA" sprinkling through now.

Literally the first time in four sessions we've been able to hear the previously shellshocked American fans.

  20. Burns bags another for USApublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Hovland/Aberg v Burns/Morikawa 3UP (6)

Great effort from Ludvig Aberg, shaving the cup from fully 35 feet. Partner Viktor Hovland is up next and he eyes up 25 feet after his approach span backwards. He's read the green but it slows up.

Almost from Collin Morikawa but he's got his mate still to come and Sam Burns can polish up.

He duly does - and he gives the crowd some stick, cupping his ear, yelling "What's that?" at the punters and striding off towards the seventh green.
