    Lowry/Straka v Homa/Harman 1UP (10)

The 11th can be a chance to drive the green, but if you're short then it's still a very good birdie chance.

Ah, only if you nail the chip. Shane Lowry doesn't do that from the first cut of rough on the right and his ball dribbles back down the green.

No such bother for Harman, who almost holes out and leaves Homa with a makeable putt to put them two up.

    2UP Rahm/Hatton v Cantlay/Schauffele (9)

    Tyrrell HattonImage source, Getty Images

We've not written that much today... But Tyrrell Hatton misses a short putt on the ninth to let the USA get it back to two down.

Hatton was just a bit too heavy handed with that and hammered it through the break.

  3. A Ryder Cup recordpublished at 09:20 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    9&7 Hovland/Aberg v Scheffler/Koepka (F)

So, for the record, that's the biggest victory in an 18-hole match EVER in the Ryder Cup!

And it's been dished out to an American pair of major champions, one of which the current world number one and the other the current US PGA champion.

And it's come from a young pairing containing Ludvig Aberg, who hasn't even played in a major yet having only been a professional golfer for just under four months.

    Who writes these scripts?

    Peter Scrivener

Roars reverberating around the course as the big screens show the Hovland-Aberg record win.

There are a few gasps too. American fans out here seem genuinely shell shocked. Their exuberance of 24 hours ago seems a long time away.

One fan tells me “at least it’s near the green” after Schauffele puts Cantlay in a bunker on the ninth.

  5. Harman puts US back aheadpublished at 09:17 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Lowry/Straka v Homa/Harman 1UP (10)

Oh, that's more like it for the Americans. Max Homa and Brian Harman are the only visiting pair putting up a proper fight.

Homa attacks the flag on the 10th, pinging the US second shot within a few feet and leaving Harman licking his lips at the prospect of converting the birdie.

Lowry and Straka are scrabbling after the Irishman hit the drink from the tee.

Harman does the business as this see-saw match goes back in favour of the visitors.

  6. Eagles apiece on 12published at 09:16 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    3UP McIlroy/Fleetwood v Spieth/Thomas (12)

    Putting. Tick.

Tommy Fleetwood is dead eye once again and the roar from the Birkdale native sparks tumultuous cheers around the 12th green.

However, Jordan Spieth has joined this group finally. That's a terrific putt of his own and the hole is halved.

    9&7 Hovland/Aberg v Scheffler/Koepka (F)

Wow! That's a Ryder Cup record victory for the European pair as Brooks Koepka and Scottie Scheffler haplessly chip it over the green from one side to another before throwing in the towel.

The crowd can hardly believe it, Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg can hardly believe it - and the American pair can hardly believe it either as they trudge off.

No Bernhard Langer in the Europe team these days of course but there are plenty of German fans in Rome for the Ryder Cup.

Marc and Stephen are over from Munich in Germany to watch all the action and have dressed accordingly.

    3UP McIlroy/Fleetwood v Spieth/Thomas (11)

    Foot firmly pressed down.

To be fair to Rory McIlroy, he'd probably be quite happy to have a breather given he's played every match so far, so he'll want to wrap this up quickly.

A stunning second shot picks out the dance floor on the par-five 12th.

Justin Thomas isn't backing away though and he goes even better with his to leave Jordan Spieth 13 feet.

Tommy Fleetwood will have 19 feet for back-to-back eagles!

  11. Postpublished at 09:11 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    3UP Rahm/Hatton v Cantlay/Schauffele (8)

It's a three-hole lead for Europe in the bottom match as Tyrrell Hatton rolls in a putt from eight feet like he's done a couple of times before.

Scottie Scheffler offers up a four-letter expletive as he leaks another tee shot on 11 and Brooks Koepka then thins his bunker shot and skulks out of the sand trap.

This match could be over in a matter of minutes...

  14. Postpublished at 09:08 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Lowry/Straka v Homa/Harman A/S (9)

With Lowry in the creek, Harman goes for the sensible option and precisely threads one down the left hand side of the 10th fairway.

That will leave Homa with an open look at the green from about 180 yards.

  15. If you’re Hatton and you know itpublished at 09:05 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    2UP Rahm/Hatton v Cantlay/Schauffele (7)

    Peter Scrivener
BBC Sport at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, Rome

Atmosphere is electric down the eighth. It’s almost like Spanish corner until a song breaks out asking Tyrrell for a wave if he’s happy. The smallest of movements from his right hand delights the songsmiths.

And that birdie sends them more wild. Captain Donald is back too. He’s here, he’s there… you know the rest.

If you're feeling sorry for our friends Stateside, I guess the only mercy is that this is taking place in the middle of the night over there and most people will still be asleep (04:00 ET).

Not a pleasant scoreline to wake up to, mind.

  17. Postpublished at 09:03 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Lowry/Straka v Homa/Harman A/S (9)

Shane Lowry grimaces but keeps a lid on it. He's not threatening to snap his driver, anyway.

The Irishman slashes his drive right on the 10th, one bounce and into the water hazard down there.

Chance for the Americans in the only see-saw match on the course.

  18. Stunning eagle for Europe on 11published at 09:02 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    3UP McIlroy/Fleetwood v Spieth/Thomas (11)

    No mercy.

Tommy Fleetwood drills his putt into the centre of the 10th hole and once again the US fightback is quashed.

  20. Europe back levelpublished at 09:02 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Lowry/Straka v Homa/Harman A/S (9)

Shane Lowry's putt to win the hole was a very decent effort by the way.

Anyway, it missed and that means Homa has to sink his par putt for the half.

Need something to drop. This is a solid roll... it has a chance... lips out.

    Europe back level.
