    Lowry/Straka v Homa/Harman A/S (7)

Can't stop thinking about golfers as pop songs.

From this group, 'Take Me Homa, Country Roads' is the best we can come up with.

Max Homa certainly might feel like going home after this American horror show.

    Anyway... golf.

Sepp Straka lays up on the eighth after Shane Lowry finds the rough with his tee-shot.

Homa shows the green is where he belongs, nailing a beautiful second shot to give his team a good chance of winning the hole.

  3. Fleetwood Mac three up at the turnpublished at 08:38 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    3UP McIlroy/Fleetwood v Spieth/Thomas (9)

Justin Thomas signals to Rory McIlroy to pick his ball up as his putt drifts by the hole.

Tommy Fleetwood tucks it in anyway. Just because.

Helicopter arms from Rory McIlroy to get the crowd going.

    Almost too easy this.

    2UP McIlroy/Fleetwood v Spieth/Thomas (8)

Rory McIlroy picks up his gap wedge and wafts it gently to within spitting distance of the flag.

A really makeable birdie chance for Tommy Fleetwood.

The Americans though are still scrambling, Jordan Spieth chips onto the green, but it'll be 14 feet just to make par.

Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg are six up after just eight holes as this demolition job on Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka continues.

  7. 'Americans have to put a stretch together'published at 08:29 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Matt Wallace
Four-time European Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

The Americans can't give a hole away now. They've got to put a stretch of holes together where they are playing solid golf.

Try and make the Europeans win some holes and try and claw back this deficit they've been down in all day.

    2UP McIlroy/Fleetwood v Spieth/Thomas (8)

A disgruntled Justin Thomas turns away as he sees his tee shot on the par-five ninth slam into the rough.

The US team are reprieved though as McIlroy knocks his drive even further into the same thick stuff.

    5UP Hovland/Aberg v Scheffler/Koepka (7)

Scottie Scheffler has got the waders on as he's stood in that swamp-like hazard on the eighth, and he can only dig it out a few yards down the hole.

    Trouble again.

    Lowry/Straka v Homa/Harman A/S (7)

Brian Harman is a menace with the short stick, hunting holes like he hunts for food.

He makes a good fist of the stinker he was left by Max Homa.

It means Shane Lowry can put Europe ahead in all four matches this morning if he lands this 25-foot putt... nope, not ever troubling the hole.

    Halves.

We're well underway on day two, but take a minute to have a look back at yesterday's incredible golf with the best shots from Friday at the Ryder Cup.

  13. 'There seems to be no belief from USA'published at 08:22 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Dan Rapaport
American golf journalist on BBC Radio 5

In all seriousness the word that comes to mind is ‘feeble’ There’s no life, there’s no juice, there’s no energy. There seems to be no belief.

They seem to be going through the motions. They might even be thinking about getting home to Florida on Sunday afternoon, by dinner time.

The captain can do everything right, but he can't hit a shot and he can't hit a putt. At the end of the day if the guys aren't playing well, no matter what the reason is, there's nothing the captain can do.

Looking back to the lead-up to this, most of them haven't played a competitive match in a month. Most of them didn't come to the practice session, no-one played the Italian Open.

If you win, fine, but if you lose, then you second guess did they do everything possible?

  14. Thomas trims Europe's leadpublished at 08:22 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    2UP McIlroy/Fleetwood v Spieth/Thomas (8)

If Rory McIlroy keeps missing putts, the Americans could be let off the hook.

Justin Thomas capitalises again as he finishes off on the eighth.

A fiery spark of emotion from Thomas and he gives Jordan Spieth a celebratory pat on the back.

    Lead cut to two.

    1UP Rahm/Hatton v Cantlay/Schauffele (4)

Jon Rahm hits the worst putt he's had in two days on the fourth, but it doesn't cost them as Tyrrell Hatton knocks in the four-footer after Xander Schauffele had converted a nice one for six feet away.

    Lowry/Straka v Homa/Harman A/S (6)

Homa missing that putt means the one block of American Red has been glossed over on the Ryder Cup colour chart.

    European Blue dominates again.

Meanwhile, from the seventh tee, Sepp Straka arrows one at the flag... ends up on the same level of this undulating green.

Max Homa's woes continue... he's landed short on the bottom deck. Brian Harman will not be thanking him for that putt.

    3UP McIlroy/Fleetwood v Spieth/Thomas (7)

Delightful from Tommy Fleetwood, flashing his approach to 10 feet on the eighth.

And a spark from Jordan Spieth too who puts his inside Fleetwood's. Perhaps something to get the three-time major champion going.

  18. Europe level after Homa misses puttpublished at 08:16 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Lowry/Straka v Homa/Harman A/S (6)

Over to Brian Harman... that's the sort of wedge shot which helped him win the Claret Jug.

Not as close as Straka but could be enough for the half.

Max Homa steps up... he's missed it!

Those must-made putts are still not being made.

    5UP Hovland/Aberg v Scheffler/Koepka (7)

Scottie Scheffler saves the hole with a three-footer - you can tell he's still not comfortable over the short ones but he makes that one to stay five down.

    Lowry/Straka v Homa/Harman 1UP (5)

Let's see how Shane Lowry and Sepp Straka can respond to their Americans daring to put a splash of red on the board.

Straka knocks his approach on the sixth to within five feet. That's how.
