    Fitzpatrick v Homa 1UP (17)

Plenty of dialogue for Max Homa as he surveys a grisly lie. His ball is completely buried in the horirble rough and is having to take a drop.

A break for Europe - although he still gets booed for it.

This is his fourth and Matt Fitzpatrick chips his third shot to 18 feet.

Aberg loses to Koepka 3&2 (F)

Brooks Koepka seals the deal against European rookie Ludvig Aberg with a nerveless putt on the 16th green.

If Europe falter and can't hold their nerve, the visitors are ready to pounce.

But that might all be irrelevant if Max Homa can't hold his...

Rickie Fowler and Tommy Fleetwood trade blows on the par-three 13th as both knock unlikely birdie attempts close.

Pars for both and Fleetwood ticks another one off.

It is bouncing down the 18th as Matt Fitzpatrick and his caddie Billy Foster approach the green.

There were one or two expletives a few moments earlier when the Englishman shunted his approach right.

    Lowry v Spieth 1UP (13)

If Matty Fitzpatrick can't nab a half against Max Homa then it will be going down the stretch.

A block of American red is currently set to hold up the European Express and delay it reaching the promised land.

Shane Lowry is the European player closest to breaking down the wall at the moment, scrapping for his life against Jordan Spieth.

Just the one hole in it still.

  6. MacIntyre two up againpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    2UP MacIntyre v Clark (11)

Bunker skills on show again from Robert MacIntyre, who almost holes out from the front trap on 11 to secure his birdie, before Wyndham Clark then misses from just five feet to hand the Scot the hole and a two-hole lead.

    Fitzpatrick v Homa 1UP (17)

    Oh chaps.

These final three holes can wreak havoc with even the coollest competitors and both Matt Fitzpatrick and Max Homa have littered them with mistakes.

Another one there with second shots from perfect positions on the fairway. Skittish about the water to the left of a pinned flagstick, they overcompensate way right.

If you've sat by the 18th green all day waiting for some drama, you've got your wish. Two shanked balls heading your way.

Tyrrell Hatton has been a rock for Europe this week, going unbeaten in Rome and winning a singles match at the third attempt in the Ryder Cup.

"I really wanted to go win a point today," Hatton told Sky Sports. "And you saw my reaction there - it feels great to get that win. I’m really proud."

On Europe's chances from here: "It looks like it's going to be close but it looks like we could get it over the line."

  10. Fleetwood moves clearpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    2UP Fleetwood v Fowler (12)

    Tommy Fleetwood getting it done.

He's found a birdie on the par-five 12th to edge out Rickie Fowler and get this match to two up.

As things stand the Ryder Cup is coming down to him.

    Aberg v Koepka 3UP (15)

Almost there European fans. But this match won't yield a full point.

Ludvig Aberg has been incredible on his Ryder Cup debut, illustrating why he has been labelled a "generational talent" by Europe captain Luke Donald.

His first singles match hasn't been easy though, especially against a man with the pedigree and nous of Brooks Koepka.

The five-time major champion is three up with three to play.

The best that Aberg can hope for is a half, but even that would be against the odds.

  12. Hatton wins!published at 15:12 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    3&2 Hatton v Harman (F)

Tyrrell Hatton plays a masterful bunker shot, almost holes it, and leaves Brian Harman with 12 feet to continue this match - but he can't convert it and the Englishman bags a the point for Europe.

  13. Fitzpatrick against Homa goes the distancepublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Fitzpatrick v Homa 1UP (17)

Europe could do with Matt Fitzpatrick scrambling a half from this match here and he's grateful to see Max Homa's 18-foot putt kiss the lip and roll on.

    We go down the 18th.

    Fitzpatrick v Homa 1UP (16)

    Steve Sutcliffe
BBC Sport at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, Rome

“Was that both balls in the water,” asks US vice-captain Stewart Cink just off the 16th.

He couldn't quite believe the double drop either from Matt Fitzpatrick and Max Homa.

The American is very much in the box seat on the 17th now though.

  16. Postpublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Hojgaard v Schauffele 2UP (13)

Another short putt missed by Nicolai Hojgaard here that would have given him the win, and Xander Schauffele is let off the hook as he taps in for a half. It's these middle band of matches that's doing all the damage for Team USA as this Ryder Cup could yet end up going right down to the wire.

  17. Fowler bites back at Fleetwoodpublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    1UP Fleetwood v Fowler

Rickie Fowler's turn to show some fine work out of the bunker as he splashes out to nine feet on the 11th.

He tucks that in as well and Tommy Fleetwood's lead is back down to one.

  18. Postpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Europe 13-7 United States

Rory McIlroy's win takes Europe up to 13 points. Just one and a half more needed to regain the Ryder Cup.

    Where's that coming from?

Tyrrell Hatton is still well placed to nab one of them. After that it is anyone's guess...

Any Europeans hoping for early wrap might have to assess their Sunday afternoon plans.

  19. Homa misses to let Fitzpatrick offpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Fitzpatrick v Homa 1UP (16)

After that pair of wet tee shots, Max Homa and Matt Fitzpatrick start again.

Homa goes in close and ought to take the hole but this tension is catching and he misses left.

We go on to the final two with just one hole in it.

    1UP MacIntyre v Clark (10)

That word again 'momentum' is just swinging in favour of the USA as the putts are dropping everywhere - including in this anchor match, which could yet end up being the decider, as Wyndham Clark pulls it back to just a one-hole lead for Robert MacIntyre.
