    Fitzpatrick v Homa 1UP (13)

Majestic tee shots from Max Homa and Matt Fitzpatrick to line themselves up on the par-three 13th.

Fitz is first, seven feet for birdie, he's pulled it. Touch on the green has deserted him when he needs it.

He's relieved to see Homa fluff his lines too and it's pars apiece.

    Rahm v Scheffler 1UP (17)

    Oh, how's your luck!

European fans will disagree but you really can't begrudge a little bit for Scottie Scheffler after a tumultuous week.

His drive on the 18th lands in the rough on the right of the fairway and bounces back into play.

No such drama for Rahm, who is sat up ahead on the short stuff.

A graphic showing eight times as many people think Europe will win the Ryder Cup

So we're still confident then (13:54).

That's pleasing because it's getting a bit squeakier than we would like.

  4. Cantlay back to two uppublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Rose v Cantlay 2UP (14)

Patrick Cantlay almost holes a wonderful putt from 40 feet away, with the ball almost defying gravity by clinging on to the edge of the hole.

It gives Justin Rose the chance of a half from nine feet away but his putt msses to the right and after all that hard work he drops back to two holes down.

    Lowry v Spieth 1UP (8)

"Keeping their heads down," is what Viktor Hovland said the European vibe was today.

Erm, did anyone tell Shane Lowry?

The Irishman is bouncing around the eighth green like one of Legion of Doom after another birdie reduces the gap against Jordan Spieth to just one.

    Fitzpatrick v Homa 1UP (12)

These tight games could be critical in the destiny of the Ryder Cup and Matt Fitzpatrick has the chance to level it up against Max Homa.

A 12-foot birdie putt was nothing for him on Friday but this one just skids by. They both take par and move along to the 13th.

  8. Scheffler unable to seal the winpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Rahm v Scheffler 1UP (17)

This has been a class contest, no doubt about it.

Rahm and Scheffler both hit the dancefloor on the 17th, but it is the American who is closer to the pin.

Rahm knocks his birdie putt close but it doesn't drop, leaving Scheffler with the opportunity to win the match.

This for the world number one's first point of the week... it slides past the right edge.

So we go to the last with Scheffler assured of at least a half. That won't be enough, though.

  9. 'Letting clubs do the talking'published at 14:09 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Europe 11½ v USA 5½

Viktor Hovland speaking to Sky Sports after beating Collin Morikawa: "That was awesome. Obviously it was looking really good early on. There is a little too much red on the leaderboard now so it was nice to put up the first point for Europe. Hopefully we can get more coming.

"I think we're all just tyring to take care of business. Every single match feels like a sprint but just because you make one putt, you dont want to fele like you have won the match.

"Maybe that's what the guys are doing. Keeping their heads down and letting their clubs do the talking."

  11. Burns narrows the gappublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    3UP McIlroy v Burns (13)

Sam Burns couldn't, could he? I mean, you wouldn't put anything outrageous past a bloke with a mullet.

Another birdie two for the American - matching what he did on the fourth - pegs back Rory McIlroy.

The Northern Irishman is three up with five left to play.

Eek. It shouldn't be eek, but this is the Ryder Cup after all..

  12. Tyrrell goes two uppublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    2UP Hatton v Harman (11)

It's a dazzling little pitch up to the 11th green by Tyrrell Hatton to barley two feet, one of those low skidders that just hits the breaks after three bouncers and trickles in really close.

That leaves Brian Harman facing 16 feet for a half, which he can't convert, and the Englishman moves back into a two-hole lead.

  13. First point Europepublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Hovland beats Morikawa 4&3

Twelve feet to keep himself in this match with Viktor Hovland but Collin Morikawa's disgusted turn away shows how this game has gone.

Another excellent performance from Hovland, who has not got near the final few holes this week, so dominant has he been (apart from yesterday's fourballs loss).

Europe are within three of that special trophy.

  14. Schauffele in the drinkpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Hojgaard v Schauffele A/S (8)

Xander Schauffele gets himself into a bit of a tangle on eight as he finds the rough off the tee, then finds the water with his second when going for the green.

Nicolai Hojgaard is safely on the dancefloor in two and with Schauffele all over the place the Dane wins that hole to level this one up again.

  15. Scheffler maintains slender leadpublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Rahm v Scheffler 1UP (16)

A gorgeous touch from Scottie Scheffler from the front of the 16th green.

The chants of 'U-S-A! U-S-A!' are the seal of approval.

Scheffler rolls up about three feet from the hole.

Let's see how Rahm can respond... equally deft. The best 'good touch for a big man' since Mark Viduka.

Two birdies equal a half. Scheffler stays one up with two holes left to play.

  16. Postpublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Straka v Thomas 2UP (9)

Sepp Straka going toe to toe with Justin Thomas at the moment.

Four holes in a row halved as the Austrian tries to claw his way back into the match.

  17. Rose gets within onepublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Rose v Cantlay 1UP (13)

Justin Rose is just clawing his way back into this as he sinks a 12-footer for a birdie two on the 13th to grab another hole back off Patrick Cantlay.

Birdies are the key here as more often than not they win the hole, and that's now two in a row for Rose, two holes in a row and the American is just ahead by one.

  18. Postpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    4UP McIlroy v Burns (12)

Rory McIlroy knocks off another hole on his way to what he hopes will be his best Ryder Cup haul.

Four up with five to play after McIlroy and Sam Burns both birdie the 12th.

  19. Fitzpatrick battling backpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Fitzpatrick v Homa 1UP (11)

Driveable par four for this pair but Max Homa gets it all wrong out of the bunker.

Matthew Fitzpatrick cashes in and he trims the American's advantage.

  20. Big Mac three uppublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    3UP MacIntyre v Clark (5)

Robert MacIntyre drives the fifth green and almost holes out from 32 feet for an eagle. He settles for birdie and leaves Wyndham Clark needing to land one from 25 feet just for a half, which he can't manage and the US Open champion slips three behind.
