High fives from Erica McIlroy and Diane Donald, the wives of Rory and Luke at the back of the 11th as they head towards the 12th.

Both elected against wading through the long rough to get a birds-eye view off the back of the green.

If you’re a homeowner here mind there’s no such issues.

  2. Fowler back to all squarepublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Fleetwood v Fowler A/S (7)

Immediate bounceback froim Rickie Fowler on the par-three seventh as Tommy Fleetwood bogeys after leaving a chip short.

    We are all square again.

  3. Postpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Rahm v Scheffler 1UP (15)

On to the 16th tee... Scottie Scheffler's honour and he finds the semi-rough at the bottom left corner of the green.

    Nice and sensible.

Jon Rahm doesn't do nice and sensible.

Doesn't need a full whack, implores Sir Nick Faldo on the TV comms. A bit more finesse.

Therefore, Rahm lashes it over the water and straight at the flag. On the fringe at the back.

  4. Are Team USA on the way back?published at 13:54 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

Plenty of red on the leaderboard at the moment.

They couldn't scramble out of here with the Ryder Cup... could they?

Thumbs up if you think Europe are going to win.

Thumbs down if the almighty comeback is on for the US.

  5. Rose gets one backpublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Rose v Cantlay 2UP (12)

Justin Rose wins his first hole of the day as he makes a birdie on the par-five 12th, while Patrick Cantlay makes perhaps his first mistake of the day by missing a six-foot putt for the half.

  6. Scheffler lands a birdie puttpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Rahm v Scheffler 1UP (15)

Europe only need four points to regain the Ryder Cup, remember.

Felt a little while ago that those points would be gathered rather quickly... not so much now.

This top match feels so crucial and suddenly Scheffler is back in the ascendancy.

The American world number one drops a birdie putt from about 20 feet and gives some back to the crowd who have been chirping in his ear all round about his putting woes.

  7. Monster Morikawa putt pulls one backpublished at 13:52 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    3UP Hovland v Morikawa (14)

    Collin MorikawaImage source, Getty Images

Gotta play risk-and-reward now Collin Morikawa and he tries to take advantage of Viktor Hovland's ropey tee shot.

The American makes the green and watches as Hovland takes his third with a wedge. Wizardry from the European gets him super close and the crowd go wild.

Steady on though, a bit of life from Morikawa, and then some as he sinks from nearly 40 feet.

    Surely not?

  8. Chip-in for Harmanpublished at 13:52 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    1UP Hatton v Harman (10)

Brian Harman hasn't been in this hole at all after visiting both sides of the rough, and when he chips it out of the thick stuff by the green his ball is really motoring, but luckily for him the flag gets in the way and it hammers into the stick and drops into the hole for a half.

  9. McIlroy extends leadpublished at 13:48 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    4UP McIlroy v Burns (11)

What's Italian for 'Go on, Rory lad'?!

Roared on by the galleries, McIlroy has been superb today and cards another birdie to move further ahead against Sam Burns.

He's four clear for the first time today and, with seven holes to play, that crucial winning point is creeping up on the horizon.

  11. Schauffele strikes the frontpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Hojgaard v Schauffele 1UP (7)

After a quick early burst from Nicolai Hojgaard, Olympic champion Xander Schauffele is showing his class as he makes it three holes in a row to turn a two-hole deficit into a one-hole lead.

Young Dane Hojgaard is just showing signs of feeling the strain as he misses from just five feet away after the American stuck his chip in tight and forced him to tmake if for a half.

  12. Postpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Lowry v Spieth 2UP (6)

Shane Lowry celebrates on the sixth green like Offaly have just been crowned the All-Ireland champions.

    The boy is pumped.

After a sticky start against Jordan Spieth, who seems to have rediscovered his form, Lowry puts away a birdie putt and reduces the deficit to two holes.

  13. Fleetwood back aheadpublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    1UP Fleetwood v Fowler (6)

Rickie Fowler needs seven feet for par to halve Tommy Fleetwood on the sixth - but screws it.

The boy from Birkdale is back in front.

  14. MacIntyre two uppublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    2UP MacIntyre v Clark (4)

After all his big words before the tournament, it's not going too well in the early stages for Wyndham Clark, as he misses from seven feet while Robert MacIntyre sinks his from a similar range to move two ahead.

  15. Homa presses home advantagepublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Fitzpatrick v Homa 2UP (10)

As expected, three holes in a row for Max Homa.

He's grasped control of this one against Max Fitzpatrick.

  16. Rahm lets lead slippublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Rahm v Scheffler A/S (14)

Scottie Scheffler's best policy here is to get so close to the pin that he doesn't need the putter.

That's exactly what happens on the 14th, a pinpoint approach piling pressure on Jon Rahm.

A long birdie putt cannot be converted by the Spaniard, who nods in the direction of Scheffler to pick up.

Back to all square in the top match.

A heck of an arm wrestle here between two men desperate not to surrender.

  17. Postpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    4UP Hovland v Morikawa (13)

A fine collection of tee shots from Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland on the par-three 13th and both have birdie attempts from inside 17 feet.

Are we at must-make territory for the American? Perhaps, but he can't.

Hovland to go five up? His putt doesn't turn for him, but then he doesn't need it to.

    Onto the final five.

  18. Cantlay in controlpublished at 13:39 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    Rose v Cantlay 3UP (11)

Patrick Cantlay drives the 11th green to set-up his third bridie of the day, while after laying up Justin Rose's approach is only to 15 feet and when that misses he finds himself three down and in all kinds of trouble.

  19. Harman cuts Hatton's lead againpublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 1 October 2023

    1UP Hatton v Harman (9)

Tyrrel Hatton was in trouble off the tee at nine so had to lay up on the par five, so when Brian Harman makes the green in two he's able to make a birdie that captures the hole.

It's the first real bit of Hatton anger as he misses a 13-footer to see his lead now cut down to just one hole.
