Racegoers have the chance to walk the course before the action - which is the perfect chance for a selfie.

Many go to The Chair, which is the 15th of 30 obstacles and jumped only once in the Grand National.

The biggest fence on the course at 5ft 2in, with a ditch before, it is named after a chair which was situated alongside where a judge used to see if any horse had been beaten by a distance.

Next up on the card is the Mersey Novices' Hurdle.

It is a 13-strong field with the unbeaten Finian's Oscar under Robbie Power - a double Grade One winner yesterday - set to go off as 3-1 favourite.

There has been a lot of money going on Messire Des Obeaux though who clocked up three wins this winter including Grade One success at Newbery.

Look out for Brio Conti as well, trained by Paul Nicholls and fresh off wins at Doncaster and Kempton.

Terminally ill five-year-old Bradley Lowery has been given honorary 41st place in the racecard for today's Grand National.

The young Sunderland fan was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2013, and has won widespread admiration for the way he has dealt with the cancer.

"We're thrilled to be coming to Aintree and really appreciate everything everyone is doing for Bradley and us," said his mother Gemma.

"He's very excited about the big day."

Don't despair if your pick's odds are longer than the queue for the ladies.

The average odds of a Grand National winner since the turn of the century are close to 28-1.

In the past 10 years, Mon Mome (100-1 in 2009) and Auroras Encore (66-1 in 2013) have both won under humongous prices.

    Half a billion pounds.

That is 20 Challenger 2 tanks, two Floyd Mayweathers or just over a day's worth of the National Health Service.

Or how much money will be gambled on one of the biggest betting weekends in the sporting calendar.

The Grand National will suck in £300m of punters' money, with the rest going on golf's Masters, the Chinese F1 Grand Prix and a string of Premier League matches.

  15. What's it like to ride in the National?published at 14:04 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Frank Keogh
    BBC Sport at Aintree

Jump jockey and BBC Radio 5 live pundit Andrew Thornton has ridden in the National 14 times, with his best finish of fourth coming on St Mellion Fairway in 1998.

"It's still a great test of skill. You need some luck and your horse to take to the fences," he told me.

"There's 40 runners, when most races wouldn't be near half that size, so you're hoping for a clear passage.

"It's wide open this year. Definitly Red is likely to be popular on Merseyside with supporters of Liverpool FC.

"I like Blaklion. The better ground will suit him, his jockey's in red-hot form and his trainer has won the race twice before."

Their build-up started hours ago and their team will be providing updates all afternoon before going live from 17:00 for the big race.

  18. Fountains Windfall wins Handicap Hurdlepublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

Winning trainer Anthony Honeyball speaking to Racing UK: "We have always thought good ground and three miles were his conditions and we have never got him on that all the way through. He has a good constitution as a horse and can maintain a gallop, but I didn't know he had quite that in him."

On his Grand National chance Regal Encore: "He has class, but like a lot of them he just needs an economical clear round. There is nothing in the race for him to be scared off. He's attitude is A1, he has had a bit of bad luck this season, but he is right there or thereabouts."
