Well, this is all rather nice..

Frankie Dettori celebrated his 70th Royal Ascot winner by donating his landmark saddlecloth for auction - with money raised going to frontline charities.

The highest bid so far is £18,500!

    WOW.

All the jockeys had already agreed to donate Saturday's riding fees.

  6. Dwyer on a unique Royal Ascotpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 19 June 2020

BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Jockey Martin Dwyer, who is on his way to Lingfield for a race this evening, has been on Radio 5 Live Sports Extra talking about the absence of spectators:

"Frankie Dettori is the biggest show-off in racing and for him not to have a crowd to play up to has really affected him. I feel sorry for him!

"It's been different, and a shame that owners can't be here, but it is better than having no Ascot at all.

"There's no showers so no-one is sharing lifts because they're quite smelly on the way home. I've been getting changed in a bar, but they obviously don't trust the jockeys because they've locked the fridges at the bar!

Winning jockey Hollie Doyle: "I can't talk, it feels amazing.

"This is the icing on the cake given how well it has gone since the resumption. I can't really put it into words and there are so many people to thank.

"Hayley (Turner) has been there and done it and ridden Group One winners, I can hardly imagine doing that myself, but I know it's possible one day.

"My aim is to improve year on year ability-wise so I've been lucky to get the opportunities, but I've still got a long way to go."

  8. 'Pocket rocket' Doyle claims first Royal Ascot winpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 19 June 2020

    Scarlet Dragon triumphs

You wait 32 years for a second win at Royal Ascot for a female jockey, and then you get two within 24 hours.

Hollie Doyle is already a record breaker, but this victory on Scarlet Dragon is her first Royal Ascot winner.

It comes 24 hours after Hayley Turner triumphed on another 33-1 shot, Onassis.

Scarlet Dragon is a second winner of the week for trainer Alan King, who is more associated with jump racing rather than the Flat version.

    16:40 Duke of Edinburgh Stakes (1m 4f)

Last race on day four of the Royal meeting and it could be the Jim Crowley show again with Durston.

The David Simcock-trained four-year-old enjoyed a good campaign last year and has been gelded over the winter but he has been well-backed for this one.

West End Charmer is one who could have a say in the final shake-up but there are questions over his stamina but not the ability of the Mark Johnston-trained horse.

And watch out too for the likes of Deja, Le Don de Vie and El Misk.

    Andrew Thornton
Former jockey on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Santiago revelled in the ground conditions. He stayed well and came home strongly.

He looks like a St Leger horse through and through. He looks a thorough stayer, he's very laid back, an imposing horse and he relished the conditions under foot.

He has a tenaciousness about him, he has a long stride and staying trips will be his forte.

Santiago made his move as long-time leader Punctuation faded with Berkshire Rocco the only real challenger.

But Ryan Moore had enough to prevail on his Aidan O'Brien-trained mount.

That looked a good staying performance from the winner, earning a place as new favourite for the St Leger at around 10-1.
