It has been intriguing. Early in the game Armagh didn't really contest the kick-outs and it was very much on Derry's terms and they got three points. Once Armagh decided to contest the kick-outs they got the two points and the message will be to contest them in the secoind half.

Derry's last Ulster title prior to their success 12 months ago was their 1998 triumph over Donegal and that side is being celebrated today.

Great names like Anthony Tohill, Henry Downey and Eamonn Burns played in that team as did Joe Brolly, who in time-honoured fashion, blew a few kisses to the packed house at St Tiernach's Park today as he lined up alongside his team-mates from 25 years ago.

  14. 'Armagh need to bring high press to second half'published at 16:51 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    HT: Armagh 0-7 Derry 1-5

    Michael Murphy
Former Donegal captain and All-Ireland winner on BBC Two NI

Armagh have attacked really well and got plenty of shots away but their high press is something they need to bring to this half. Derry will continue to do what they are doing, and just try to do it a little bit better.

  15. 'We'll have to wait for fireworks'published at 16:51 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    HT: Armagh 0-7 Derry 1-5

    Conleith Gilligan
Former Derry forward on BBC Two NI

Derry settled really well and the goal gave them a platform in a game Armagh are doing really well in. It's such a big thing for Derry if they were to go back-to-back but it's huge for Armagh as well.

There's a lot of fear because nobody wants to give possession away. They're taking the safe option first but it'll open up as we go on. The second half will start as the first finished but eventually one of the teams will have to push and that's when we'll see the fireworks.

It's been good and I've really enjoyed it. It's been really intricate - there's a lot of match-ups but it's been the little mentality pieces and the competitive nature of some of the players. Once one of the teams have gone forward the other has responded really well.

  17. 'What a great first half'published at 16:44 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Armagh 0-7 Derry 1-5

    Philly McMahon
Eight-time All-Ireland winner with Dublin on BBC Two NI

What a great first half - the scoreline's a bit lower than we hoped but what's really impressed me is that once a team gets an important score and the energy goes up the other team are doing the right things. They're catching the ball in the middle of the field and getting a score. It's back and forth and they are not panicking.

  18. Half-timepublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Armagh 0-7 Derry 1-5

The half time whistle goes and it's Derry who have their noses in front as they hold a 1-5 to 0-7 lead.

An intriguing game with very little between the two sides.

    Big, big second half incoming.

    Well, well, well.

A Shane McGuigan free from distance drops short and is easily collected by Rafferty.
