    Superbike race one

Glenn Irwin went straight on at Juniper Chicane on his sighting lap. He'll be hoping he doesn't do that in the race.

Remember, if a rider has to jump through a chicane they have to stop and put their foot in the designated box, otherwise they'll face a time penalty.

The bikes are rolling onto the grid....

    Superbike race one

Remember, this is a four-lap race compared to the six laps we are usually accustomed to with the big bikes.

    This will be fast!

The riders aren't too far away from returning to the grid, and then it'll be the quick blast into Portstewart!

    Superbike race one

    Lee Johnston
    Five-time winner at the NW200

You don't know what Michael [Dunlop] has changed or thought of since qualifying earlier. That's a brand new bike so it's definitely moving forward.

It's going to be a good one!

Who do you fancy for this one then?

Glenn Irwin will be the favourite after his blistering pace earlier today (and he's looking to equal that Superbike wins record), but we know Davey Todd has been keeping him honest all week.

You can't discount Michael Dunlop, Dean Harrison or Peter Hickman from this either.

    It could be rather tasty.

Anyone else ridiculously excited for this one?

  7. 'I wanted to be part of the event' - Reapublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 9 May

Jonathan Rea, speaking to BBC Sport NI:

"I wanted to be part of the event, to come here and see it. It's a big bonus for me to get to do a lap as well.

"I've got so many home fans. They don't get the chance to come to watch me race, even in the UK. It's nice to come and show my appreciation but also enjoy the atmosphere.

"It's very seldom you get the chance to have a closed lap of the North West!"

Look who is in the (metaphorical) building!

Six-time World Superbike Champion Jonathan Rea will do a parade lap after the first Superbike race.

We wonder what Lee Johnston is thinking in the background.

  9. Not long to gopublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 9 May

The Superbikes are on the grid ahead of the first race of the evening.

There's just a parked car being helped on its way off the circuit by a flatbed truck around the start/finish, which hopefully won't cause too many delays.

  10. 'Time for the shadow boxing to end'published at 17:19 British Summer Time 9 May

    Richard Petrie
BBC Sport at the North West 200

It's time for the shadow boxing to end and the real business of this year's North West 200 meeting to start.

The fact that the Superbikes have been added to the Thursday night race programme should go down well with the thousands of fans basking in the sunshine around the Triangle circuit.

Expect Peter Hickman's two-year-old lap record to come under major threat and of course Glenn Irwin sits one behind Michael Rutter and the late Joey Dunlop's all-time record of nine Superbike wins so there is history in the making too.

Stephen Watson is on the grid with Larry Carter, Jenny Tinmouth and Philip McCallen.

If radio your thing, you can join Michael McNamee and Orla Bannon, who are in studio with Jamie Hamilton and Maria Costello.

  12. Weather watchpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 9 May

It's sunny and hot, which is something I can't believe I'm writing (given the North West 200's reputation for rain).

There's a cool breeze in the air, which keeps things in check.

In the gap between action on the track, many fans have taken the opportunity to explore the paddock.

Lots of mechanics and team members have been completing final preparations ahead of tonight's racing, and lots of fans heading for the ice-cream van to cool down in the heat!

  16. 'Ding dong' battle right to the flag...published at 14:52 British Summer Time 9 May

Jeremy McWilliams speaking to BBC Sport NI:

"I think it'll be a good 'ding dong' all the way to the flag.

"Hopefully no one gets away and we are all together like old times, the old 650 class which was always the tightest race and I'm just glad that it's back to the way it was."

  17. Hickman's position 'a good place to be'published at 14:50 British Summer Time 9 May

Peter Hickman speaking to BBC Sport NI:

"Everything is going really well, the little Swan R7 is going quite nice to be fair. It was a little bit of an educated guess to where we had to be at.

"It's the same bike I raced here last year and at the Isle of Man TT, but completely different engine and exhaust. We have done our own exhaust, which has been fantastic and sounds beautiful as well which is always good!

"It seems to be going pretty well, every bike I have come across so far I have been as strong as if not a little bit stronger, so that's a good place to be."

Richard Cooper speaking to BBC Sport NI:

"Pete [Hickman] is very impressive for the size he is, to get the Yamaha R7 up there with some respectable times and he has surprised me.

"Hopefully we will have something for him come Saturday."
