Irwin, Todd and Cooper win on opening night

The roads are open and that that caps the opening night of racing at the North West 200.

We had three strong races, with Glenn Irwin equalling the Superbike record and Davey Todd recovering from a big crash to win the Superstock race.

Richard Cooper dominated the Supersport race, and he'll look to make it a hat-trick of wins on Saturday.

After a day of rest, Todd will be looking to bonce back and you would be brave to discount Irwin as he looks to make the Superbike wins record his own.

You can read Richard Petrie's report from the North West 200 here, and make sure you tune in again on Saturday from 9.30am as we get ready for a packed schedule of racing.

Keep an eye out on the BBC Sport NI website for highlights and reaction from today.

Thanks for joining us, see you then!

  3. 'It's not an excuse'published at 20:04 British Summer Time 9 May

Michael Dunlop on his injury: "The injury I'm carrying isn't practical but we're not here to cry about it. It's not an excuse, I have to batter on with it.

"We're making strides. These boys are riding these bikes every week and I'm just getting to grips with this so we can make another step for Saturday.

"Get a days rest, get a bit of work done and I'm ready to rock and roll!"

  5. 'I had a bit of go on the last lap'published at 20:00 British Summer Time 9 May

    Davey Todd wins Superstock race

Dean Harrison speaking to BBC Sport NI: "I was sat there about half a second off and sat there quite comfortably.

"I had a bit of go on the last lap to try and bridge the gap.

"Mather's Cross is quite undulating and I ran through, the foot went down again.

"Happy with the pace, the bike has been working well.

"Davey [Todd] has been riding really well on that bike all year.

"To come here and be that close bodes quite well for the coming few weeks and the TT.

"I didn't know who was behind me, I had no pit board, I kept the head down from the off."

BBC Sport NI speaking to Michael Dunlop: "To be honest with you, I haven't been in the best place to get the best out of the bikes. The boys have worked hard, it's been a hectic week.

"We're making steps with the bike and we just need to keep making more steps. Keep chipping!

"Fair play to the boys they've got the bikes singing. I just haven't been able to get the best out of it yet."

    Davey Todd wins Superstock race

Todd: "This one means a lot. To be honest, a lot went through my mind. I was sat by the side of the track, I was hurting a lot and you start thinking if I was going to be able to finish the weekend? Am I going to be racing?

"I'm glad I did. I think I'm going to be sore tomorrow, I'm glad I've got a day off.

"I didn't think I would be sitting on a bike, to be honest. But I said to the boys that I would give it a go and see how it feels. They have put in so much work to make the bike what it is. It's awesome to ride. I'm so happy with where I am at right now and hopefully we can keep this going. It's nice to get a big bike win."

    Davey Todd wins Superstock race

An emotional Davey Todd speaking to BBC Sport NI: "I wasn't sure I was going to race. Honestly, I'm a little bit sore after that crash in the Supersport race. I don't come here to sit on the sidelines, I always want to give it a go.

"I tried my best and I didn't know what it was going to be like. I thought I'd go out and ride as hard as I can and do what I can for the guys, they've done an amazing job with the bike here. It's fantastic and it's awesome to ride. I was unlucky in that last race, but I'm happy to get that win."

You can hear the cheers for Davey Todd over the road of the Superstock engines. He's a big fan favourite on the north coast.

He looks exhausted in the winner's enclosure.

That's a great ride from Dean Harrison in second as he explains his last-lap overshoot to his team.

This is a fast pace, and Todd is still in control out front. He'd be a very deserving winner of this one.

Harrison is still there in second and will capitalise on any mistakes.

    Lap 3/4

This is some resilience from Davey Todd, his lead is up to one second over Harrison.

Michael Dunlop could pulls out the paper and have a cup of tea. He's in a very lonely third.

Behind it all, Hillier has got McGuinness back for fourth. That's a nice little battle.

Peter Hickman pulled into the pits after his first-lap excursion at Mill Road roundabout.

Once again, Todd pulls clear out of the roundabout but Harrison isn't going away. Todd's back wheel was off the ground as he hit the brakes into Mather's!

A long way behind, John McGuinness pulls a neat move on James Hillier in Mather's Cross.

Davey Todd is stretching his legs. If he's feeling any pain, he's not showing it.

He has extended his lead out of the roundabout, and Dunlop has gapped Hillier and McGuinness, on his 30th anniversary at the NW200, for third.
