Rose is a big fan of the Olympics

Team GB's Justin Rose has been talking to golf correspondent Iain Carter for a BBC Sport interview. It's safe to say he's loving his Olympic experience so far as he makes his debut on Thursday.

On his first impressions of the Olympics: "The scale of the Olympics is just unbelievable. When you walk around the Olympic Village, you see the amount of athletes roaming around, the scale of the gyms, food hall. It's mind boggling."

On what it would mean to win an Olympic medal? "If I win Olympic gold half of it goes to my wife Kate (she was a European artistic gymnast but her discipline was not in the Games). I certainly feel we are just as worthy of being here as anyone else, anybody who gets to the top of their sport is worthy of their spot in the Olympics. Nothing comes easy here. No-one is gifting you a spot.

On all the nations competing in Rio: "With all the world's issues right now, to see so many countries in one place, just co-existing with a smile on their faces is just great to see."

Golf will make its return to the Olympics for the first time in 112 years when it gets under way on Thursday and Masters winner Danny Willett is packed and ready to go.

Speaking of golf, did you clock Rickie Fowler's haircut during the opening ceremony yesterday? What's he playing at! Looks like Gary Oldman in The Fifth Element.

    Judo men's -60kg

Russia's Beslan Mudranov cracks a cheeky grin. Reigning world champion Yeldos Smetov grimaces as he lies on his back, staring at the roof and probably seeing stars.

Nothing can separate these two after five minutes - and that means it is golden score.

Mudranov needs just 44 seconds to produce a moment of brilliance. An opportunist leg sweep takes down Smetov and clinches gold for the Russians.

The sun is setting behind the mountains, fans are walking to and fro around the Olympic Park, some going home, some taking respite before gorging themselves in more sport. Plenty of selfies are being taken, capturing this once-in-a-lifetime moment. The temperature is still snug, but it's cooled down significantly since this afternoon's stifling heat.

"Because (it is the) first time making a gold medal for Vietnam."

What a half that was for Great Britain, four tries, a much better showing in the early stages than in the victory over Brazil at lunchtime.

Amy Wilson-Hardy who is a bit of a whizz on the violin I'm told, got things rolling within a minute and set the tempo.

Amy gave the BBC some examples of her basic Portuguese this week and she clearly feels right at home here.

We have another try as I type, Heather Fisher powers free and touches under the posts. That's 40-0 and there's the whistle. They'll be thrilled with that.
