New 10m air pistol Olympic champion Ginny Thrasher tells the media assembled at her press conference that she actually wanted to be an Olympic figure skater when she was a child.

Thrasher recalls how she changed her mind after joining her grandfather, father and brothers on a hunting trip where she shot a deer.

Inevitable questions about the USA's controversial gun laws followed, but teen Thrasher - who is studying biomedical engineering an University - was quick to dismiss them.

"I think some of the controversialness of guns in America is just distracting to our sport which is very different," she said.

Men's road race, 110km to go

    Cummings

Steve Cummings has a little poke off the front of the peloton and the rest of Great Britain's men hang back to force the field to follow him themselves.

Cummings showed at the Tour de France in the past two years that he can go from far out and stay out. The peloton duly get their act together and chase up.

The six-strong breakaway's lead is being chewed up now. It is down to under three minutes.

Meanwhile an Iranian rider has got closely acquainted with the Brazilian countryside.

That was an absolute breeze for Denmark. They steered effortlessly towards victory and are through to the semi-finals - joined there by the British crew of Peter Chambers, Jono Clegg, Mark Aldred and Chris Bartley, who took second.

Greece pushed hard but settled for third and also made it through, with Germany dropping into the repechage with fourth.

Yulia Efimova has been been cleared to compete in Rio after a convoluted drugs case that saw her go through the Court of Abritration for Sport. The world champion will line up in the 100m breastroke heats on Sunday after being "added to the list".

The Czech Republic suddenly decide to start the party in the peloton.

The hammer goes down and the pack is suddenly strung out in their wake.

Great Britain need to do a little roll-call as the peloton set off in pursuit. Steve Cummings is present and correct. But where are the likes of Froome, Stannard and Thomas?

Job done for Great Britain, they wore Brazil down and will take on Japan tonight.

Brazil's fans produced a huge roar in the second period as Joanne Watmore was denied a try by a brilliant tackle on the line - that's the noisiest moment of the Olympics I've seen yet.

Alas though it was to no avail in the end as Natasha Hunt, Wales' Jasmine Joyce and Emily Scott crossed over. Joyce looked elated to have scored at the Olympics. It's finished 29-3.

    Men's road race - 121km to go

We are in something of a stand-off in the men's road race.

A six-strong group are four and half minutes up the road, but they went early, hard and are not going to be able to stay away.

The peloton - with all British riders present and correct - are soft-pedalling away waiting for them to boomerang back and the next move to be made from their ranks.

Great Britain have defended well in this opening half against Brazil. In all honesty, despite their lowly ranking the hosts have been on top, pressing GB back and Joanne Watmore's breakaway try broke the enthusiasm briefly. We even saw a British flag get an airing.

Brazil hit back with a drop goal after an infringement and so its 7-3 at the break. Britain will expect more, much more.

Great Britain are making heavy weather of this with Heather Fisher twice knocking on when well placed.
