The weather might have been more Rochdale than Rio for the sailing today, but that didn't dampen the spirits of fans on Flamengo Beach or GB's sailors.

World champion Giles Scott moved into first place in the Finn, Nick Thompson secured a second and a first place to reach the silver medal position in the Laser, while Ben Saxton and Nicola Groves are also into second overall in the mixed Nacra 17, also known as a catamaran.

If you include Nick Dempsey, who is first in the men's windsurfing, GB has four boats in medal positions.

And you can catch up with the carnage on the beach amongst the fans right here. , external

Max Whitlock has the fifth-best score so far in the parallel bars in the men's all-around final. He and his coach exchange smiles before returning to their seats to focus on the next apparatus. Whitlock doesnt watch his rivals perform - he's only seen defending champion Uchimura's routines on YouTube - so his head is bowed throughout while others defy gravity and he simply concentrates on the task ahead.

Japan's Kohei Uchimura won the gold in the all-around final four years ago and is not giving up his title without a fight.

His score of 15.566 on the vault takes him up to the silver position behind Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine.

It is bad news for Great Britain's Max Whitlock, who drops down to third following an effort of 15.000 on the parallel bars. Nile Wilson registers the same score of 15.000, his best of the night, on the vault.

We have two events to come. Plus a lot of drama.

    Medals

Have you missed it all? Great Britain have won five (yes, five) medals today. Here's how it has all unfolded.

16:54: Froome wins bronze - no gold for the Tour de France winner, who misses out in the men's time trial.

19:29: Scott wins bronze - Steven Scott wins shooting bronze, taking the medal after a shootout with team-mate Tim Kneale

19:46: Clarke wins gold - the first of the double golds. Joe Clarke, 23, becomes Olympic champion in the men's K1 canoeing

20:40: Conway wins bronze - Sally Conway, from Edinburgh, loses her -70kg juso semi-final but wins the bronze bout

21:13: Laugher and Mears win gold - the most sunning of the lot. A first ever Olympic diving gold for Great Britain.

It all goes wrong for Germany's Andreas Bretschneider in the men's all-around gymnastics final.

In the third of six rotations, he is on the high bar, but can not hold on after one fancy move. Agonisingly for him, he can only get one hand on the bar, loses his grip and comes crashing down with a bump.

He is OK and soon back on his feet, with the only damage done to his pride. And his medal hopes.

Three more disciplines to go. Britain's Max Whitlock is second.
